Andy Reid is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant coaches in NFL history. Now, he’s looking to gain a deeper understanding of his AFC West rivals, which is why a former member of the Las Vegas Raiders was seen visiting the Chiefs‘ facilities on Wednesday.
The 2024 NFL season ended in the worst possible way for the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes led the team back to the Super Bowl, only to suffer a crushing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in one of the most disappointing performances of their recent championship runs.
Following that outcome, Andy Reid has decided to make strategic changes. One of them includes bringing in fresh insights—and a former Raiders coach might be the key to strengthening Kansas City’s defense.
Chiefs eye defensive upgrade with ex-Raiders coach after Super Bowl loss
There’s no question that Andy Reid is one of the greatest minds the NFL has seen. Under his leadership, the Chiefs have built a dynasty, winning three Super Bowls in the last six seasons.
However, Super Bowl LIX was a disaster. Kansas City was overwhelmed by the Eagles, with the defense failing to contain Philadelphia’s high-powered offense. It was clear the team needed to make adjustments—especially on the defensive side of the ball.

To address this, Reid is reportedly looking to add a former Raiders coach to his staff for the 2025 season, someone with defensive expertise who could make a big difference.
On Wednesday, former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce was spotted at the Chiefs’ facilities wearing team gear. He was seen walking the field alongside Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who once coached Pierce during the New York Giants’ Super Bowl XLII run.
While it hasn’t been confirmed what role Pierce would have, multiple reports suggest he could join as an advisor to Spagnuolo to help improve the defense for the upcoming season.
