The Cleveland Browns trusted Shedeur Sanders to start the first NFL preseason game. Sanders had a very good outing which sparked the conversation as to whether he will be tabbed again for the second preseason game. Head coach Kevin Stefanski spoke on Monday’s press conference and didn’t give a clear answer.

Shedeur is “not there yet,” said Stefanski when asked about a starter for Saturday’s preseason game against the Eagles. However, considering other quarterbacks Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel are still recovering from respective hamstring injuries, the QB depth chart right now is Shedeur and Joe Flacco.

While Gabriel has been cleared for 11-on-11 work, it’s still somewhat risky to have him play the Eagles. The Browns have joint practices with the Eagles and Stefanski said the team will have plans for Sanders, Pickett, Gabriel and Flacco.  It will be a “great challenge” to see who gets the starting job.

Sanders impressed vs. Panthers

Sanders led the Browns to a 30-10 win over Carolina. He completed 14/23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. He was calm and composed during his playing time and set the team up nicely to get the win.

His two touchdown passes went to Kaden Davis, who is also making a mark for himself. With Gabriel and Pickett still not fully ready, it seems like Flacco and Shedeur should see some snaps. Also, the Browns signed Tyler Huntley, who replaced Sanders on the first game.

Stefanski needs to make a decision soon

Stefanski needs to establish some parameters. At first, there were four quarterbacks. Now, add Huntley to the mix and you have five. At this point, every team should have, or at least be close to have, their starting QB1 determined.

However, every time Stefanski speaks to the press, the Browns head coach leaves everybody scratching their heads as he only creates uncertainty. This is not something you’d like to hear if you’re a Browns fan.
