The Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin need a wide receiver before the trade deadline. There seems to be no doubt about that. After George Pickensâ departure, Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson have failed in their responsibility to fill the No. 2 wide receiver spot.
This has caused DK Metcalf to constantly face double coverage, and Aaron Rodgers has had to rely on his four tight ends to try to give a boost to the offense. However, no one has stepped up as the WR2.
Now, in a final attempt to remain a Super Bowl contender, general manager Omar Khan could be preparing a surprising trade. The interesting thing is that, even though the defense is the Steelersâ biggest problem, the focus would be entirely on the other side of the ball.
Will Steelers trade for a wide receiver?
Multiple reports, including one from Jeremy Fowler, indicate that the Steelers are going to trade for a wide receiver. Although Jakobi Meyers is at the top of the list, there could be a surprise if the Raiders donât budge.
Fowler mentions that Pittsburgh sees the Saints as a key trade partner, and a New Orleans loss to the Rams could make things easier. Although Chris Olave seems like an almost impossible target, there is another option on that team.

NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers have reportedly chosen next star wide receiver to trade for before deadline
âIâm curious to see what Pittsburgh does. The Steelers just traded for Patriots safety Kyle Dugger to offset the loss of DeShon Elliott to injury. But they have also combed the receiver market, which they did last year, too. Will they settle for a moderate move such as last yearâs acquisition of Mike Williams? Or will they locate more of a difference-maker and pay the necessary draft capital to secure the talent? If a deal for Meyers falls through, perhaps the Steelers lean on the Saints for, say, Rashid Shaheed, a speed option who would be costly but not outrageously so.â
