The San Francisco 49ers are on a revenge tour for the 2024 NFL Season. Had a couple of plays gone their way on their Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs they’d now be the reigning champs. Yet, football is a game of inches and unpredictables. To offset this truth, Kyle Shanahan and the front office are making sure their squad is as deep as possible. 



Terrace Marshall Jr has signed with the 49ers amidst Brandon Aiyuk’s never-ending story. The new San Francisco wideout had a succesful college career catching footballs from <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/joe-burrow">Joe Burrow</a>.



The former 2021 first round pick joins the Niners after his three-year experience with the Carolina Panthers. During which, his production was not as expected, yet Shanahan believes he can produce like he did back in a WR star studded LSU room with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/justin-jefferson">Justin Jefferson</a> and Ja’Marr Chase.

With the addition of Marshall Jr, San Fran has yet another wide receiver who offers a high ceiling for a low cost. In addition to Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey, Brock Purdy will now have a new weapon in his WR room.

<h2>49ers key players expected to be out for Week 1</h2>



The Niners roster is stacked. However, it is easy to get carried away by their skill-position players and miss out on other key contributors whose absence is deeply felt in the gameplan. Regardless, Shanahan is focused on the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets and that won’t be guided by a certain name.



Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk are the main topics of concern inside the head coach’s room and frankly throughout the whole organization. Both players heldout from team’s practices due to contractual disputes. The clock is ticking and neither player’s situation improved and thus Shanahan does not foresee them starting.



“We are getting close to playing a game. So, like, my mind is completely on preparing for a game without those guys,” Shanahan admitted on press conference. 



<h2>San Francisco’s Injury Report</h2>



Bad news first. Dre Greenlaw has not been activated off the PUP list, although that was expected for the star pass rusher who tore his Acchiles tendon on an unfortunate non-contact accident during Super Bowl LVIII. On the other side of the ball, backup runningback Elijah Mitchell has been placed on season-ending IR due to an undisclosed injury. 



On another note, Talanoa Hufanga, the young safety sensation, has been activated off the PUP list and thus can start in any of the first four games of the season. Hufanga tore his ACL during his breakout season in 2023, and his absence was a tough blow to the Niners’ secondary. His return to practice is a positive note for San Francisco´s staple defense. 



The 49ers roster is deep and has the raw talent to go on another deep run. However, the physical toll has been their kryptonite and continues to affect them week in and week out. If the Niners can avoid the injury bug this season, they are well set to play deep into January.

This situation is undoubtedly concerning for Kyle Shanahan, as he needs Aiyuk in peak physical condition for the start of the season.



A key point in all of this is that negotiating with NFL stars is always challenging, especially as contract arrangements for other top players are gradually becoming known. This creates increased anticipation when it comes time to discuss numbers.



For several days, Brandon Aiyuk considered two options: either a contract restructuring during the final year of his current deal or a trade to another team. At one point, both the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots expressed strong interest in his services. The resolution of this case remains uncertain, and there is no guarantee of seeing a connection between <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brock-purdy">Brock Purdy</a> and Brandon Aiyuk once again at Levi’s Stadium and other venues.

After several negotiations between the WR and Jerry Jones, CeeDee Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys finally reached a lucrative deal for the player. He signed a four-year deal and will earn $34M yearly and now he is the second highest paid WR in the NFL, only behind Justin Jefferson.



With this, Brandon Aiyuk has a clear benchmark for the value of his services. From now on, it will be a matter of negotiating with GM John Lynch to reach an agreement or exploring other destinations.

<h2>Aiyuk and Chase in the same situation</h2>



While several WRs have secured lucrative deals in recent days, there are still players who are far from resolving their contract situations.



In addition to the ongoing saga between Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers, there’s also the situation with the talented Ja’Marr Chase and the Cincinnati Bengals, who are still far from reaching an agreement. Although a renewal isn’t guaranteed, Chase’s case is different since it was recently reported that he will return to training ahead of Week 1, despite not having renewed his contract yet.

In 2021, Williams signed a 6-year, $130 million contract extension, which runs through the 2026 season. However, reports suggest that the left tackle is seeking additional incentives and a change to the guaranteed money for the last two years of the deal.

Still, Purdy has asserted his position and has proven well-worthy of a starting quarterback salary in today’s league. Yet there always seems to be a higher standard for him. And Kittle admits the QB does not shy away from it. “He’s incredibly hard on himself,” the tight end added.

<h2>49ers’ front office faces future-defining decision involving Purdy</h2>



Despite Purdy’s success under Kyle Shanahan’s scheme and the team’s deep playoff runs, the organization has doubts around its franchise quarterback and has not yet fully committed to him. This has also fed the division between those in favor and those against the quarterback.

“With as good of a team that we have, I want to get to that point where we get to the third quarter, there’s a couple of drives that are crucial, I’m on top of my stuff, we convert on third downs, and we score touchdowns and the lead just gets out of hand,” Purdy told Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle. “It’s having that Tom Brady kind of feeling. Late in the game, it always felt like Tom was just gonna take over and not make it close. I feel like I can get to that.”

It didn’t take long for Purdy to prove he’s actually relevant, leading the 49ers all the way to the NFC Championship Game in his rookie year as Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo suffered season-ending injuries.

“Here, in OTAs, getting with [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] and going over all the games that we played in, every play, and going over situational football and stuff, and taking that and actually going out on the field and running things and repping things, and throwing to the receivers. Last year, I didn’t have that, so now that I’m able to attack those kinds of things, I feel like I’ve gotten better.“

This fantastic evolution, however, hasn’t been translated into a lucrative deal yet, as <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brock-purdy">Purdy</a> is still under the contract he signed as a rookie two years ago. The 24-year-old made it clear he’s not thinking about this situation, though.



“I’m trying to win this year and do everything I can for this organization this year,” Purdy said Monday, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “Everything else happens how it happens. But for me, I need to get better from last year, on the film, and the things that I saw from last year. My rookie year, it’s like I’ve got this thing in me where I want to continue to master my craft, and that’s that.“



Purdy has taken the Niners to the NFC Championship Game before suffering a shoulder injury in his rookie year, and went on to make the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">Super Bowl</a> in his second year. But his earnings have been of $1.652 million so far, and his annual average salary of $934,253 makes him the 90th highest-paid QB in the NFL.

“It’s a business, obviously, too. But for me, I love this game. I love just competing with these guys in this organization,” Purdy said. “I love this organization, and I want to continue to represent myself for them, and in the right way. So that’s where I’m at with that. Getting too caught up in all that kind of stuff is, for me, that’s nonsense. So, just taking it one day at a time and getting better.”

The young quarterback was the famous last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft and, so far, there’s been nothing of Mr. Irrelevant in his performances. On the contrary, the 49ers reached the NFC Championship Game in his rookie season and got all the way to the title matchup in 2023.

<h2>Brock Purdy doesn’t pay attention to critics</h2>



During a special appearance in The Pat McAfee Show, Brock Purdy was asked about all the critics who want him out of the San Francisco 49ers. His answer was tremendous. 


 

 


“As long as we’re winning games, it really doesn’t matter. That’s how I look at it. It’s a thing obviously. It’s part of the sport. People are always gonna have a talking point. That’s fine, but for me all I care about is the respect of the guys in the locker room, coaches and staff. They see how I handle business here and how I perform in games and what’s on the film rather than just feelings, opinions and emotions.”

Yes. Even with Tom Brady’s statement, there’s no sign at the moment that Purdy’s future will change. In fact, Jed York, CEO of the&nbsp;49ers&nbsp;already confirmed a contract extension is in the works.



“It’s a good problem when your quarterback is one of the highest-paid guys on your team and in the league. It’s what the market is. Brock is going to ask for something that no one has ever asked for before. I don’t know how many players are making over $40 million as a quarterback right now.”

“I just told him I’ll always have his back and support him in whatever he does,” Purdy told Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. “I want the best for him. It’s a business thing, so for me to say anything about that, that’s out of my pay grade. He and I talk through things and I hear him out. At the end of the day, what he’s done for me, giving me an opportunity to come in and throw him the ball, I’ll always be thankful for that.”



The Niners have the most talent around the league. Needless to say, that comes with a steep price tag, and they might not be able to keep the core together for much longer.

“At the end of the day, he wins football games and he plays efficient football,” Dobbs said about Purdy. “That’s all you can ask for. So that’s what I’m most excited about, just being able to obviously provide my perspective on what I’ve learned throughout the league and be able to assume whatever role that looks like this upcoming year. But to be around that and that coaching and that type of player and that type of room and that consistency, I think it’d be really good for me, and I’m excited to see what I’ll be able to add and help the team with for this upcoming year.”
