In an unexpected turn of events, former <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/georgia-bulldogs">Georgia Bulldogs</a> quarterback Carson Beck has reversed course and entered the NCAA transfer portal. Initially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, the senior QB opted to utilize his final year of eligibility, thanks to his redshirt freshman season. With a top quarterback now in the transfer portal, one school has already set its sights on the former Dawg and is leading the pursuit for Beck.



It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/carson-beck">Beck</a> in such a short time frame. After suffering an injury during the SEC Championship, the Georgia QB took his time to assess his options before opting to undergo season-ending surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament, or UCL in his right elbow. Though he wouldn’t be able to throw a football until spring, Beck declared for the NFL Draft. 



However, Beck’s stock had taken a drastic impact by his inconsistenc performances throughout the 2024 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> season. Perhaps influenced by the likelihood of being selected in the later rounds of the draft, Beck backtracked and announced he’ll be entering the transfer portal.



The former Bulldogs’ quarterback is a huge name in the portal and one that almost every school would be open to signing. Schools lacking a starting signal-caller for the 2025 campaign will lead the charge for him. Regardless, according to reports, there is already one favorite to snag Carson Beck.

“Miami would loom as the favorite right now for Carson Beck,” Thamel stated, during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “They right now don’t have an incoming starter quarterback. [Head coach] Mario Cristobal has shown affinity from the success Cam Ward’s had, to have an established guy come in.”



<h2>Cam Ward paved the way</h2>



The Miami Hurricanes are coming off their best season in many years, thanks to the talent of quarterback <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cam-ward">Cam Ward</a> who finished fourth in Heisman voting. Ward transferred from Washington State to Miami as a senior and showcased his incredible talent. Although the Canes ultimately fell short of their end goal, they may have discovered a formula for success: bringing in experienced talent to lead the team.



Maybe Cam Ward walked so Carson Beck can run in Coral Gables. Though their playstyles differ greatly, both quarterbacks could prove that a change of scenery was exactly what they needed. Texas Tech doesn’t have a starter at the QB position, either. “Texas Tech has been pushing hard for a starting quarterback, as well. So I think they could loom in the background, too. A healthy Carson Beck would be a top-of-the-market quarterback. He has first-round talent,” Thamel said.



Beck is hoping to unleash his full potential during the 2025 campaign, whether that’s in Coral Gables, Columbus, Lubbock, or another location, and declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, where he could be selected in the higher rounds.

Finally, the Jacksonville native has made the decision to declare for the upcoming NFL draft. That said, once Beck recovers from his right elbow injury, he will not return to wear the Bulldogs’ colors.

“First off I want to thank God, for blessing me with the opportunity to play the game I love. Through the ups and downs, the highs and lows, everything that this game produces and provides i’m eternally grateful for. “I’ve known this kid since he was eight years old,” said Saban. “I’ve watched him since he was eight years old. The Georgia Bulldogs enjoyed an extra week off as they geared up for the CFP quarterfinal at the AllState Sugar Bowl. While <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kirby-smart">Kirby Smart</a> and the team hoped for a Christmas miracle on quarterback Carson Beck’s injury status, the prayer wasn’t answered and the Dawgs will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish with Gunner Stockton under center.



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/carson-beck">Beck</a> injured his right elbow in the final play of the first half of the SEC Championship against the Texas Longhorns. It was certainly an avoidable incident, but it gave place to a domino effect on Smart’s team. Backup Stockton led the team throughout the second half, though Beck re-entered the game and handed off the football for the winning touchdown in overtime. 



The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/georgia-bulldogs">Dawgs</a> got a good look of how they can gameplan for Stockton, and as it turned out, they will rely on the sophomore to lead them in the hunt for the program’s fifth National Championship.



As the school announced on Monday, Beck underwent elbow surgery and is expected to be able to throw again by Spring 2025.

“Georgia quarterback Carson Beck underwent successful surgery Monday on his right elbow to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, Ca,” the school announced. “A full recovery is expected with throwing to begin spring of 2025.”

<h2>Beck’s up-and-down season ends on a tough note</h2>



The 2024 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> season didn’t pan out as Beck envisioned heading into the year. Though the 23-year-old found his rhythym late in the season, his early struggles raised many eyebrows in Athens and the senior-year QB potential NFL Draft stock plummeted.



Beck finished the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">college football</a> season with 290 completions for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. His lackluster campaign hinged on the hope of a magical playoff run, but that illusion was shattered by an unfortunate play.



<h2>Sugar Bowl</h2>



On New Year’s Day, the Bulldogs and Fighting Irish will go head-to-head at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Notre Dame is coming off a huge 27-17 win over the Indiana Hoosiers, while Georgia hasn’t played since the SEC Championship on December 7.

As Carson Beck’s MRI results revealed bad news, Dawgs head coach Kirby Smart made a blunt admission about the possibility of rallying behind backup Gunner Stockton.

“But experience is so valuable, and you can’t really get experience in this amount of time. I wish he’d gotten more game experience up to this point in time. There’s not a lot we can do about that right now, so we’re just waiting to find out more information.”

<h2>Beck’s injury update</h2>



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/carson-beck">Beck</a> underwent an MRI to conclude what’s his injury timeline would be. The results indicate the quarterback tore his UCL in his right elbow, consequence of a hard sack in the first half’s final play.



It’s still unclear how much time Beck will miss while dealing with the injury. Fortunately Georgia won’t play again until January 1st when they will take on the winner in Indiana and Notre Dame’s matchup. If Beck is not back healthy by then, the Dawgs will rely on backup QB Gunner Stockton.



<h2>Smart’s praise for Stockton</h2>



Stockton was thrust into the SEC Championship in the second half with little to no notice. The Bulldogs had some time to regroup in the locker room after Beck’s injury and quickly shifted to an offense tailored for Stockton. Georgia relied heavily on the rushing attack and it paid dividends. 



However, come playoff time, the Dawgs will need a reliable outlet at quarterback to avoid becoming one-dimensional and too predictable for opposing defenses. Regardless, Smart is confident Stockton can rise to the occasion.

“This kid’s special. He’s a winner,” Smart said during the postgame celebrations. On Sunday he added: “I think his strengths are somewhat different than Carson’s, obviously, but we’ve known that. There’s not a game we don’t go into that we don’t have a plan for Gunner if he were to have to play. 



“He does give us the capability of doing some different things with his athleticism. The team has a lot of confidence in Gunner. He’s very smart, very intelligent.”

The Georgia Bulldogs will take on the Texas Longhorns in a long-awaited rematch for the SEC Championship. Texas and Georgia last met on October 19. Since, the Horns have been red-hot and head into the SEC Title match with a five-game win streak. 



Despite this season’s 30-15 triumph over their upcoming opponents, Smart and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/georgia-bulldogs">Georgia</a> aren’t getting overconfident. Texas has improved a lot since, and partially because of their disappointing loss to the Dawgs.



The Bulldogs had to earn their most recent triumph over their eternal rivals, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, as they prevailed 44-42 after eight overtimes. “We’re going to have to play better than we’ve been playing because Texas is really good,” Smart stated, via On3. “I’m very concerned about everything about Texas because they have an extremely talented roster. They’ve got wideouts, backs. Their defense is elite, one of the best in the country. Special teams are elite.

“So when you ask about worries throughout from the last month and a half, I was worried a month and a half ago and I’m worried now because they got really good players, and they do a great job.”



<h2>Carson Beck’s recent turnaround </h2>



Despite Carson Beck’s shaky season, Coach Smart always stood by the Bulldogs quarterback’s side. Beck closed out the season in great form, making Smart proud. Over his last three outings, Beck totalled 941 passing yards, eleven touchdowns and no interceptions. 



It was quite a turnaround for Beck’s numbers, as he amassed 17 TDs to 12 INTS prior to this season-finale stretch.



<h2>Smart makes something clear on DB Julian Humphrey entering transfer portal</h2>



After losing the starting job to Daniel Harris, the Bulldogs cornerback Julian Humphrey didn’t play during Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech. Days before the SEC Championship, Humphrey announced his decision to enter the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> transfer portal.



Smart made his thoughts clear on the matter and diverted the focus to the big task ahead, the most important game of the year for the Bulldogs.



“I’m not dealing with it. I’m worried about my team,” Smart said. “I’ve learned in this thing that you worry about the players that are with you, not the ones that aren’t. You focus on the guys that are out there on that field playing it and trying to win games in eight overtimes, that love the University of Georgia and want to compete and be part of it.“

Georgia is firing in all cylinders, once again. Kirby Smart’s team has been brought back to life after the loss to Ole Miss and is now looking as the best contender out of the SEC. “We’ve had a gauntlet of a schedule. One of the hardest, if not the hardest in the country,” Beck stated, via On3. “I don’t know how people would look at that. For me, I’d say that, I mean, there’s not another team that has gone through what we’ve gone through this season. We’re a resilient group. I mean, we have everything that we want in front of us.”



<h2>Beck believes team is hitting its prime</h2>



The Bulldogs were always considered a bona fide contender to the National Championship and among the strongest programs in the competitive Southeastern Conference. Despite their losses (to ranked teams and in close matchups), the Dawgs were never taken for granted. However, the last outings have helped the team make a statement.



Beck’s play this year has been under heavy scrutiny, although Smart repeatedly had his team leader’s back. Finally, the quarterback has shown what he’s capable of and strung together all-around convincing performances. However, he credited the team and believes the Dawgs are just getting started.



“I think we’ve really, kind of found our stride kind of late in the season, whether it’s in the run game, and being able to find explosive plays in the pass game, and executing in the red zone. I think we’ve just had a really high level of execution here lately, and it is a good time to start hitting guys.”

<h2>Beck snaps four-game bad streak</h2>



Beck’s downfall in his performance has been the biggest topic of concern for the Bulldogs. Georgia’s QB entered Saturday’s matchup against the Vols with five touchdowns to nine interceptions over the last four games. His mistakes have been costly for the Dawgs.



However, against Tennessee Beck had one of his best outings in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> season. Beck completed 62.5% of his passes for 347 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers. He rushed for a touchdown, and didn’t take sacks, as well. His last game without interceptions thrown was on October 5 against Mississippi State.



<h2>Message to the CFP Selection Committee</h2>



The Bulldogs played with intensity. The CFP Selection Committee’s decision to exclude them from the playoff picture struck a nerve, and the Dawgs were determined to prove them wrong. Against Tennessee, they handled their business and made sure the Committee took notice. Smart made his thoughts known on the decision.



“I really don’t know what they look for anymore. So, I would welcome anyone in that committee to come down to this league and play in this environment. It’s a tough place to play.”

The No. 2 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/georgia-bulldogs">Georgia Bulldogs</a> are drawing skepticism. They win, but they are not doing it in convincing fashion. The Bulldogs are relying heavily on their defense and ground game as QB Carson Beck’s production stalled significantly. However, head coach Kirby Smart has sent his quarterback a strong message on his recent performances.



The Dawgs carry a four-game win streak in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> as they gear up to face the Ole Miss Rebels on the road. The quality against quantity dilemma has become an ongoing topic in Athens. The Bulldogs have taken down the Texas Longhorns and big rivals in the SEC, yet something seems off. 



The most easily recognized weak link in Georgia right now is <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/carson-beck">Carson Beck</a>. The quarterback is going through a considerable slump. The numbers speak for themselves. However, Kirby Smart believes they do not tell the whole story on Beck’s performance.



“Just decision-making, I think that’s the bottom line,” Smart said, via UGASports.com. “I think I was more pleased after watching the tape than anything, because, he got 73 snaps. I still think that 68 out of 73 in the decision-making process, he did the right thing. And he made some really, really elite plays and throws within it. So, it’s cutting down on the catastrophic ones.”

<h2>Smart on SEC statement on fake injuries</h2>



On November 1, the SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey sent out a memo on the fake injuries issue that took centerstage in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">college football</a>. Smart was asked on the topic, and his response set the record straight on how it impacts the Bulldogs’ program.

“We don’t condone that on our team or within our program, so we don’t have to address it,” Smart said. “I respect Commissioner Sankey and what he sends out. We just tell them that if they’re injured stay down and if not, you get up and go play. That’s just our philosophy.”



<h2>Georgia’s road ahead</h2>



The Bulldogs have four remaigning games on their schedule. The Dawgs currently boast a 5-1 conference record, and, albeit a catastrophic collapse, are set to make the Playoffs. The next two matchups will be crucial as Georgia will face two ranked opponents in the SEC.
