A’ja Wilson has made waves in the world of women’s basketball, securing one of the “richest” endorsement deals in the league with Nike, as reported by ESPN. The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/las-vegas-aces">Las Vegas Aces</a> star signed a six-year contract extension, and she had the best response to the deal on her social media.



The 28-year-old star posted a series of photos celebrating the occasion, along with a fitting message: “Just do it x6,” accompanied by a set of emojis and the caption “Top Tier Blessings.”



Wilson, who was named to Nike’s roster of signature athletes in May, will launch her own signature shoe, the “A’One,” in spring 2025, just before the WNBA season kicks off. This new deal places her alongside other top WNBA stars like 2024 No. 1 draft pick Caitlin Clark, USC’s JuJu Watkins, and Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu in terms of endorsement earnings.



The specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, but, according to ESPN, ranks among the highest-paid shoe endorsements for women’s basketball players, reflecting the increasing value of top-tier female athletes in the market.

In that sense, Clark’s own contract with Nike, signed back in April, could serve as a reference. According to reports, the Indiana Fever star signed an eight-year, $28 million deal with the brand. So, it’s likely that Wilson is earning similar figures.

Kelsey Plum, the talented guard from the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/las-vegas-aces">Las Vegas Aces,</a> has decided to forego participation in the inaugural season of Unrivaled. The 30-year-old All-Star cited the need for rest and recovery as her reason for opting out.



“I’ve decided to not take part in the inaugural season of Unrivaled in order to take some more time for myself this offseason,” Plum shared on Instagram. “I appreciate the league understanding and being so accommodating. I wish the league and all of the players nothing but the best and I’m excited to watch!”



Plum’s absence leaves a significant gap in the Laces’ roster, which also includes notable players like Kayla McBride, Alyssa Thomas, Courtney Williams, Kate Martin, and Stefanie Dolson.



With Plum’s decision, the league now faces the challenge of filling three roster spots across all six teams. Other notable players, such as Caitlin Clark and A’Ja Wilson, have also declined invitations to participate in Unrivaled.

During an appearance on The Roommates Show, Wilson dismissed O’Neal’s suggestion. “What is it gonna do?” Wilson questioned, highlighting the potential negative impact on players’ shooting mechanics. “I would much rather just gear my offseason to, ‘Okay, vertical, maxing it out, let’s focus on this jumping,’ versus lowering it an inch. That could change all of our shots. Do y’all not understand that?”

The two players were featured in a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, in which they reflected on her careers and the league’s growth in the past year.



Asked about how it has been playing Reese, Wilson admitted that she has been following her during her whole college career. “My good friend actually was coaching her at that time, so that’s how I honestly started to follow Angel, and I saw a little bit of myself in her,” she said on a video shared by the WSJ.



“No matter what I do, I’m gonna make sure that I go all out and I give it 100 percent. And I saw that, just the motor that she has, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, that is young A’ja 100 percent,’” she explained. “But for her to want to, after all these years, to still rebound the basketball, it’s something that is really her and true to her. I hope she never loses that,” she added.

After the news broke, many in the sports world took notice, and it was none other than her coach, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/becky-hammon">Becky Hammon</a>, who highlighted Wilson’s achievement.



“We always talk about, ‘Make your teammate great, and then in the process you become the greatest,’” Aces coach Becky Hammon said, per ESPN. “A’ja is a great example of that — just making everybody great around her. A’Ja Wilson is the first WNBA player to reach 1,000 points in a season, and she has also set the league record for total rebounds in a season.

<h2>Wilson takes home third MVP award</h2>



With her selection as MVP, Las Vegas Aces center A’Ja Wilson joins three other players who have won this prestigious trophy three times. They are Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes and Lauren Jackson.



Wilson received all 67 first-place votes for MVP from the gathered news media, finishing ahead of rookie sensation Caitlin Clark and several other players. Napheesa Collier came in second, while Breanna Stewart secured the third most votes. Clark placed fourth in the overall voting.

In Tuesday’s 85-72 victory against the Seattle Storm, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/las-vegas-aces">Las Vegas Aces</a> star A’ja Wilson set a new WNBA single-season rebounding record, surpassing Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese, who is sidelined with a wrist injury. Wilson grabbed seven rebounds in the game, bringing her total to 451 rebounds for the season, edging out Reese’s mark of 446, set earlier this month.



Wilson’s rebounding record follows her historic scoring achievements. Just last week, she broke the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/wnba">WNBA</a> single-season scoring record and on Sunday became the first player in league history to surpass 1,000 points in a single season.



Reflecting on her accomplishments, Wilson expressed gratitude, saying, “This league is tough, so if my name can be in the record books in some sort of way, it’s a blessing.“ She also admitted that she wasn’t aware of the rebounding record, as rebounding isn’t something she actively focuses on.



“I’m 6-foot-4 and I’m around the basket; I hope I can grab a couple rebounds for my team,” she said after a lighthearted exchange with Aces coach Becky Hammon, who joked, “No, she didn’t know [about the record]. You can tell.“



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/angel-reese">Reese</a>‘s record, set on September 1, held for less than three weeks before Wilson eclipsed it. The Sky rookie, who averaged a league-leading 13.1 rebounds per game, saw her season cut short after suffering a wrist fracture. Wilson, averaging a career-high 11.9 rebounds per game this season, has never previously averaged double-digit rebounds.



<h2>Las Vegas Aces can move up to third seed for Playoffs</h2>



With the win over Seattle, the Aces secured home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, as they aim to defend their back-to-back WNBA championships. Currently sitting as the No. 4 seed, Las Vegas can move up to the third spot with a win against the Dallas Wings on Thursday, provided the Connecticut Sun lose to the Sky.

The 2023 WNBA season began on May 19 with the Las Vegas Aces as one of the big favorites as they’re defending champions.



The Las Vegas Aces won the 2022 title after eliminating the Phoenix Mercury, Seattle Storm in the postseason and the Connecticut Sun in the Finals.



There is not much difference between the Aces’ roster of 2022 and the current 2023 season, four players left, while four other players joined the franchise.
