<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/las-vegas-aces">Las Vegas Aces</a> star and WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson shared her thoughts on Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, giving her great praise and comparing her to her younger self. The two players were featured in a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, in which they reflected on her careers and the league’s growth in the past year.



Asked about how it has been playing Reese, Wilson admitted that she has been following her during her whole college career. “My good friend actually was coaching her at that time, so that’s how I honestly started to follow Angel, and I saw a little bit of myself in her,” she said on a video shared by the WSJ.



“No matter what I do, I’m gonna make sure that I go all out and I give it 100 percent. And I saw that, just the motor that she has, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, that is young A’ja 100 percent,’” she explained. “But for her to want to, after all these years, to still rebound the basketball, it’s something that is really her and true to her. I hope she never loses that,” she added.



The numbers support Wilson’s opinion. In her 34 starts, Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game (1st in the WNBA). The only player to finish the regular season with a double-digit rebounding average was, precisely, Wilson: 26.9 points and 11.9 rebounds.

In her college career, Reese won a national championship with LSU and she was selected as No. 7 overall pick by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA draft. While the WSJ’s article has been criticized by fans for only mentioning Caitlin Clark once, as the Indiana Fever’s guard has been credited as one of the reasons for the league’s popularity, Wilson said that she is enjoying the attention.



“It’s just been fun. Whether it’s the constant chatter on social or just the competition level is rising within our league, but I feel like we were also in a space where it was like, ‘Okay, it’s about time everyone got on this train.’ Like, we’ve been shouting from the rooftops this whole time,” she told the WSJ.

<h2>Las Vegas Aces lost in the semifinals to Liberty</h2>



While A’ja Wilson won unanimously the 2024 WNBA MVP, she wasn’t enough to help the Las Vegas Aces to a third consecutive WNBA championship. The Aces were eliminated by New York Liberty in the semifinals, with New York having their revenge as they lost last year’s finals.



Currently, New York are up 2-2 in the best-of-five series against the Minnesota Lynx. If they win the fifth game (Sunday, Oct. 20th, 8:00 PM ET) the Liberty will win their first ever WNBA championship.

After winning the China Open in Beijing, American star <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/coco-gauff">Coco Gauff</a> shared how Las Vegas Aces MVP A’ja Wilson has been an inspiration for her this year, especially as she’s faced challenges in securing more titles this season.



“People don’t realize athletes have both great and difficult moments. It doesn’t mean anything,” Gauff said after her victory in Beijing via the WTA’s website. “I took inspiration from A’ja Wilson. Back-to-back champions. People wanted them to three-peat. She’s kind of like, ‘It’s hard to keep winning all the time.&apos;”

Wilson grabbed seven rebounds in the game, bringing her total to 451 rebounds for the season, edging out Reese’s mark of 446, set earlier this month.



Wilson’s rebounding record follows her historic scoring achievements. Just last week, she broke the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/wnba">WNBA</a> single-season scoring record and on Sunday became the first player in league history to surpass 1,000 points in a single season.



Reflecting on her accomplishments, Wilson expressed gratitude, saying, “This league is tough, so if my name can be in the record books in some sort of way, it’s a blessing.“ She also admitted that she wasn’t aware of the rebounding record, as rebounding isn’t something she actively focuses on.



“I’m 6-foot-4 and I’m around the basket; I hope I can grab a couple rebounds for my team,” she said after a lighthearted exchange with Aces coach Becky Hammon, who joked, “No, she didn’t know [about the record]. You can tell.“

Wilson, averaging a career-high 11.9 rebounds per game this season, has never previously averaged double-digit rebounds.

With the win over Seattle, the Aces secured home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, as they aim to defend their back-to-back WNBA championships. Currently sitting as the No. 4 seed, Las Vegas can move up to the third spot with a win against the Dallas Wings on Thursday, provided the Connecticut Sun lose to the Sky.

Las Vegas Aces will close out the regular season against the Seattle Storm and Dallas Wings this week. Although improving their postseason seeding might be unlikely, Wilson and the Aces appear to be in top form as they pursue their third consecutive WNBA title this fall.

The 2023 WNBA season began on May 19 with the Las Vegas Aces as one of the big favorites as they’re defending champions.



The Las Vegas Aces won the 2022 title after eliminating the Phoenix Mercury, Seattle Storm in the postseason and the Connecticut Sun in the Finals.



There is not much difference between the Aces’ roster of 2022 and the current 2023 season, four players left, while four other players joined the franchise.

After winning a key game on May 28 against the Minnesota Lynx 94-73 they not only established a 4-wins streak, but now the Las Vegas Aces are the first team in WNBA history to win their first four games of the season by 90 points or more.

They won the first game of the season against Seattle 105-64, the second game against the Los Angeles Sparks 94-85, the third against the Los Angeles Sparks at home 93-65 and finally against the Minnesota Lynx 94-73.
