But the Dodgers declined to offer Scherzer three guaranteed years,” Castillo added. “By Sunday evening team officials were pessimistic. On December 9th the Rule 5 Draft is set to take place, the draft is designed to give minor league players a chance to get to the majors. The technicality is that Rule 5 players become a part of the MLBPA, the event could be cancelled in its entirety. On January 14th of 2022 arbitration salary filing deadline is set to take place, this means that team’s arbitration-eligible players file salary figures for the coming season. Each side, the team and player, both place what both parties believe said player should earn that season, and if the numbers don’t match a hearing is held. Very few players and clubs ever really go to a full-blown arbitration hearing.
One day later on January 15th international signing period is slated to begin, this is reserved for MLB teams to begin the process of signing foreign players. Mid-February Spring Training is set to begin, with no CBA in place the players cannot report, if the negotiations move to next year, it could affect the start of the preseason. March 31st is Opening Day, and while it is possible that things could be all squared by then, there is also a chance Opening Day could be moved.

“Simply put, we believe that an offseason lockout is the best mechanism to protect the 2022 season. We hope that the lockout will jumpstart the negotiations and get us to an agreement that will allow the season to start on time. This defensive lockout was necessary because the Players Association’s vision for Major League Baseball would threaten the ability of most teams to be competitive. It’s simply not a viable option,” read the letter.
Well, I’m sure that there are plenty of business mogulf who have enough money to invest on MLB teams if the poor owners don’t have enough to spend in free agency. Whatever is the case, this situation is likely not going to change until next year.

However, neither of those deals have been made official by the Rangers. According to Joel Sherman, the Rangers free agent-bill so far is $561.2 million. With Semien being able to play other infield positions, it makes sense that Texas wanted other shortstops. Seager, 27, hit .306 with 16 home runs, 22 doubles and 57 RBIs in 95 games in 2021 with the Dodgers.

On that same note, the Yankees should go the distance to try and lure Kevin Gausman to the Bronx. He’s not likely to go back to the San Francisco Giants next season and could be the piece they need to get over the hump.
