The New Orleans Saints have been in a limbo at the quarterback position ever since Drew Brees retired. That’s why this offseason they took a chance on Derek Carr, but he may not have Michael Thomas soon. Dennis Allen recently shared an injury update on the WR.
New Orleans are always trying to make moves oriented to winning now. Their usual bad cap situation takes away a lot of flexibility, although they find ways to stay competitive. In that direction they went in free agency with former Las Vegas Raiders passer.
With all the uncertainty around the NFC South they chose to bet on a veteran quarterback. The decision of signing Carr should make them more consistent than in the past, though the availability of his top wide receiver remains uncertain.
Dennis Allen talks about Michael Thomas’ return
Thomas was a top 3 wide receiver in the NFL while being fully healthy. The last time he had that status he became the Offensive Player of the Year, setting the all-time record with 149 receptions. But the problem is his recent dominant version was seen back in 2019, so he is far removed from that level of performances.
Injuries were the reason why he has never been even close to his potential. In fact, the wide receiver only played 10 games in the last three seasons. In 2022 he only had three matchups before a toe injury finished the year for him. Now, Saints coach Allen shared an update regarding his status.
“He is making progress in the recovery. He’s not 100 percent, and we’re going to be cautious with it and take our time. We don’t want to put him out there until he’s 100 percent. I expect him to be fully healthy and ready to go. When that point is, I don’t want to get into those speculations. But we feel good about where he’s at”, Allen said according to John DeShazier of New Orleans’ official site.
