Las Vegas Raiders are looking to change the face of the 2024 NFL season, where the team with Tom Brady as a minority owner failed to make the playoffs. With the recent addition of Pete Carroll, the organization has made a final decision on a teammate for quarterback Gardner Minshew.

Minshew suffered a broken collarbone in November 2024 that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Currently, the Raiders are still considering various decisions regarding his future with the team. In this regard, Las Vegas has decided not to have a backup quarterback.

Gardner Minshew‘s teammate who will not remain with Carroll’s Raiders is none other than backup quarterback Desmond Ridder, who will not receive a contract extension offer, and will become an unrestricted free agent. The information was released by NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

Ridder had joined the Raiders in 2024 and appeared in only six games last season, completing 52 of 85 passes for 458 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He made one start for the Las Vegas franchise.

Raiders seek alternatives for quarterback position

The decision not to retain Ridder comes at a time of uncertainty for the Raiders at the starting quarterback position. Several names have been floated as possibilities to fill the vacancy. Matthew Stafford was one of them, but he renewed his contract with the Los Angeles Rams, eliminating a potential option for Las Vegas.
