Stetson Bennett won everything possible at Georgia, where he became a superstar. In the NFL, however, he has yet to be given the chance to display that same potential from his college years. With the Los Angeles Rams, that moment could be right around the corner.
Recently, in a preseason game, Bennett seized the opportunity to set a new career-high in passing yards for a single quarter, recording 114 yards and showing he can contribute significantly to the franchise.
Beyond his personal record, during the game against the Cowboys, he completed 16 of 24 passes for 199 yards, two touchdowns, and just one interception, finishing with a 100.7 passer rating. These numbers will undoubtedly grab the attention of Rams fans.
Bennett Learning from Stafford
While Bennett has shown the talent to play like a top quarterback, at least based on his most recent preseason game, he is taking the time to learn directly from Stafford, even calling him “the better guy in the room.”
“Nine’s nine and I try to learn as much from him and just apply it the best I can,” Bennett said in a portion of his comments about Stafford. He and the veteran have been seen talking in previous seasons, but things are much more serious this year, with Bennett emerging as one of the backups with the biggest opportunity.
McVay Was Clear on Bennett
Rams head coach Sean McVay didn’t hesitate to praise the young quarterback, revealing that “He [Stetson] was awesome and he was totally present. I loved what I saw from him.” However, he also clarified that Jimmy Garoppolo will get his reps during the preseason, indicating that a competition is still underway. Despite that, Bennett clearly made a good impression on McVay.
