Joel Embiid had another disappointing season in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA</a> with the Philadelphia 76ers. As has been customary throughout his career, the star had to battle injuries once again.



Embiid was out for more than two months due to a knee problem and, in the first round of the playoffs facing the New York Knicks, he never was at a 100 per cent. That was a key factor to lose the series even with heroic performances.



As a consequence, there is a lot of uncertainty around his status for the 2024 Paris Olympics in which he should be part of a spectacular roster with names like <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lebron-james">LeBron James</a>, Kevin Durant and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stephen-curry">Stephen Curry</a>. 



During an interview with ABC, Joel Embiid clarified his situation. “I’m doing great. Just getting ready for the Olympics. It’s going to be big for me because I’ve been dreaming about it since I was a kid.”

Ingram’s future with the New Orleans Pelicans also looks up in the air as his name is being the subject of multiple trade rumors, with the 26-year-old also being linked with the Chicago Bulls. Either way, what seems clear is that the Sixers are not satisfied and will be looking to improve for the 2024-25 season.

“I think it started a day or two before the Miami game,” Embiid said. “It’s pretty annoying. My left side of my face, my mouth and my eye, so yeah, it’s been tough. But I’m not a quitter, so I got to keep fighting through anything. It’s unfortunate, that’s the way I look at it. That’s not an excuse, I got to keep pushing. With the conversations that I’ve had, it could be weeks, it could be months.”

Nonetheless, Embiid is well aware of how important he is to his team, so he’s not going to allow anything, not even this discomfort, to keep him off the floor in this series.

“Everybody on the floor was trying to call a timeout,” Embiid said, via Sixers Wire. “Myself included. Nico (Batum), coach on the sideline, but they didn’t give it to us, but forget about a timeout. There’s a bunch of fouls—like I said, that’s (expletive) unacceptable.”



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/philadelphia-76ers">76ers</a> head coach Nick Nurse apparently called for a timeout before the sequence that led to the Knicks’ unbelievable comeback, but his request was not granted. Speaking to the media, Embiid defended Tyrese Maxey, who lost the ball in the play that led to back-to-back threes.



“He did his job. That’s on the league. That’s on the NBA. That’s on the freaking referees,” Embiid said. “I hate to put the game on them, but I’m sure the 2-minute report is gonna come out and we’re gonna see what happened, but like I said, that’s unacceptable. No, that’s not on him. That’s not on any of us. We fought for 47 minutes and whatever 20 seconds and for that to happen up 4? That’s not OK.”

“There was no time to talk about it. You can ask him if you want to. See if he saw me calling timeout. I just watched the film just to make sure. I’m clearly calling timeout. I didn’t see if he looked at me in the film, but I can see me clearly calling timeout twice.”



<h2>Embiid warns the Knicks</h2>



The series now heads to Philly with the Knicks leading 2-0, putting the Sixers in a tough spot to make the next round. Even so, Embiid looks extremely confident his team will end up getting the job done. 



“We should be 2-0 so we’re good,” Embiid said. “We’re gonna win this series. We’re gonna win this. We know what we gotta fix. We did a better job today so we’re gonna fix it, but we’re the better team. We’re gonna keep fighting.”

I find it scandalous, I find it embarrassing. I don’t care about his excuses, cause they are his words, and his words mean nothing”.

Recently, a letter sent by Embiid to French President Emmanuel Macron talking about his desire to play for the national team went viral, reigniting this debate about his decision. Of course, Weiss didn’t like that:



“I would take away from him the French nationality and I would ban him from entering France. You will not play in the Olympics. You will come to the airport with Team USA and we will say: You don’t have the right to enter the territory, go to your home. You are Cameronian, you are American, you are not French, go away,” he added.

Embiid and company will now embark on a two-game road trip, playing the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday before taking the San Antonio Spurs a day later. After that, the 76ers will close the regular season with a three-game home stand against the Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, and Brooklyn Nets.

The expectations around the Sixers were bigger in the offseason, but Embiid missed plenty of time due to injury and now has to make sure the team can finish the season strongly to compete when the most important time of the year comes.

“It’s easy,” Embiid said. “He’s been connected to Philly for a long time so I’m glad he’s finally here, but I always say this: when you put smart basketball players together, it’s just easy. “Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is closing in on a comeback, possibly as soon as Tuesday’s home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, league sources tell The Athletic,” wrote Charania. “Embiid and the 76ers are still working to finalize his return date, but it is believed to be any day now. The reigning NBA MVP has completed multiple five-on-five scrimmages at practice in recent days, league sources said.”

Right now, the only certain thing is that Joel Embiid is out for Saturday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets. He didn’t play in last night’s win for Philadelphia facing the Utah Jazz.

Injuries happen; they’re a part of the game. They have been around since the dawn of basketball, and players have played through ailments for decades now. Even nowadays, role players are asked to play through injuries.



“Of course you want to win MVP. You force it, you get out there and you put yourself in harm’s way and then Joel Embiid is hurt now. Is that the goal? Is the goal putting people in harm’s way just so they can qualify for an award? Because I don’t think that was the goal. This man’s actually dealing with an injury,” Green said.



If the new rule isn’t fair, what can the fan who traveled thousands of miles and spent a lot of money to watch his favorite player play once in his life say? What about those who want to watch the product they’re actually paying for?



Embiid’s scoring run is one of the greatest of all time, but he cannot be measured against, say, Wilt Chamberlain, because of the games he missed in between. Also, if he wanted to ‘save’ those 17 games he could miss in the event of an injury, perhaps he should’ve suited up to play in Denver vs. Nikola Jokic, which he hasn’t done since 2019.

<h2>Embiid Says Wembanyama Needs To Figure Himself Out</h2>



The reigning MVP believes the most important thing for Wembanyama will be to figure out what kind of player he wants to be, whether he’s going to be a shooting guard in a big man’s body or a bruiser:



“I think, first of all, he has to figure out where he wants to play, whether he wants to be a guard or a big or whatever,” Embiid said. “It’s not necessarily whether he wants to be a guard or a big; it’s what he wants to become. Do you want to become KD, or do you want to become me? Not KD, or like a version of those guys — you want to combine everything.”



Embiid admits Wembanyama’s game still needs a ton of polishing. However, he doesn’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing because he’s just a rookie learning the ropes of the game:



“Right now, I just feel like everything kind of feels a little forced, in the way that he’s playing,” Embiid said. “Which is not bad. Because the only way to get better is to play through it and learn. That’s the only way. You make a lot of mistakes, and you learn.”

<h2>He Has To Learn From His Mistakes</h2>



Embiid also likes the fact that he’s getting a long leash on his own team. That way he’ll be able to learn from his mistakes and keep getting a little better with every single game:



“The one thing that I’m happy about is they’re allowing him to make those mistakes, and learn from it,” continued Embiid. “But I just think there’s a good and bad in that. The good of it is you learn through your mistakes. But then again, the bad of it is, you know, it just feels a little forced. Like, some of the shots. He can make it easy on himself.” 



At the end of the day, we don’t know what Wembanyama could look like as a finished product simply because we have never seen a player like him. But judging by the early returns and his unicorn-like skill set, it’s easy to understand why so many scouts thought he could become the greatest player in NBA history.

Morey traded for him and gave him everything he asked for in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/houston-rockets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Houston Rockets,</a> from big-time money to superstar teammates and even hand-picked coaches. 



Harden eventually decided to leave Houston, and after a brief stop with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brooklyn-nets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brooklyn Nets</a>, he went running right back to Morey, who the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/philadelphia-76ers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Philadelphia 76ers </a>had just hired. A couple of months went by, and he flirted with going back to Houston, and when his leverage powermove didn’t go his way, he blamed Morey and demanded another trade.



That’s why<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-mavericks" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Dallas Mavericks </a>commentator Brian Dameris didn’t mince his words against the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-clippers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Los Angeles Clippers</a>‘ new star, calling him out for the way he’s treated his teams, his teammates, Morey, and how he still hasn’t been able to lead any team.

“I get on my knees every night and pray for someone to believe in me like Daryl Morey believed in you,” Dameris started. “They traded Ben Simmons for you – how did they pull that off? And you know what, you went there, and you got a partner who got the MVP. He won the MVP. And what did you say afterward? You said, ‘They didn’t hand me the reins.&apos;”



He continued his allocution by reminding him of his subpar performances in the playoffs and even predicted he’d have a tough time finding a new team if things don’t work out for him this season either:



“You’re the point guard; you’re holding the reins. And what did you do when you had the reins? You scored nine points in Game 7 against Boston. You blew a 3-2 series lead,” Dameris continued. “If this doesn’t work this year, in this system with this team, then you’re going to go and point fingers at everybody else. You’re going to go back home, and you’re going to start swiping right for another team, and there’s not going to be anybody left. Because James — you’re not The Beard, you’re not the system, you’re the problem.”



<h2>Joel Embiid Takes Subtle Shot At Harden</h2>



Notably, it seems like Dameris isn’t the only one who’s not happy with Harden’s actions. When asked about the Sixers’ recent surge and great start to the season, reigning MVP Joel Embiid may have taken a bit of a shot at his former teammate:



“I think it’s a lot of credit to the culture that we have,” Embiid said. “No one has an ego on this team. We got new guys, we took them in, we got them up to speed. I think the fact that guys want to play with each other and they like being around each other, I think it helps a lot, too. Guys are unselfish; the ball is moving no matter if the shots are going in or not. Guys are just happy, just worried about the right thing—which is to win. That’s the only thing that matters, and that’s the only thing that should matter.”

The truth is that Harden is aging, injury-prone, and has zero championships to show for. That’s why teams won’t put up with his antics for much longer, and he might not even find a new team if he forces his way out of the Clippers like he’s done with every team he’s played for.

“He ultimately chose to represent the United States, sources said, because he wants to help the United States return to the top of the international basketball world after it failed to medal at the World Championships in Manila this summer,” wrote Shelbourne.



Needless to say, Embiid’s presence will give Team USA a major boost up front. They struggled with size during the FIBA Basketball World Cup, and that won’t be an issue going forward.

This actually makes perfect sense. The French national team is coming off a disappointing performance, so they need to make sure to have players who are 100% committed to them.
