Apart from leading the NFL in rushing (1,292) and scrimmage yards (1,801) in 2023, the 49ers star is tied as the league’s touchdown leader with 20. Running backs are often overlooked in this award, which is why CMC appreciates being in the conversation. 



“Well, I appreciate you saying that, man. That means a lot,” McCaffrey said to Brady. “I don’t get into all the award stuff, but to your point, I just think even being in the conversation is an honor, and specifically for that reason and the timing of it with running backs and some of the stuff, and I think when you look at the history of the NFL and running backs and where we’re at now. In the event he wins the prize, McCaffrey would become the 17th running back to take home the MVP award. Even so, the 27-year-old doesn’t want to get distracted from the ultimate goal, which is to go the distance with the 49ers.



“But, you know, I don’t know if that’s why it feels good. It does feel good. Obviously, there’s still a lot of football left and that’s really where my mind’s at. But it’s cool to see a lot of the other running backs who are having a lot of success as well. … I look at guys around the league who are continuing to have success and that motivates me and continues to push me to compete with them. But also at the same time it’s great for the position.”



<h2>McCaffrey thanks Brady, but insists Purdy should win MVP</h2>



Brady echoed McCaffrey’s sentiments, explaining he also felt like all that mattered was winning team awards. “You can have a great individual year and you could be a really good player on a bad team, which is not very much fun. I think for me it was always about celebrating the success with other players and the best moments weren’t accepting a trophy, an MVP trophy. It was accepting a Super Bowl ring with all the people that played a part of that.”

“Well, vote for Brock, man. That guy deserves it, man,” McCaffrey said. “I know, obviously you respect that. He’s been unbelievable for this team and I hate when I hear people say anything negative, ‘Oh, he’s just a system quarterback.’ Everyone’s a system quarterback. That’s part of what being a quarterback is in my eyes. I mean, I don’t know much about the position. I try to stay in my lane and just try to get open and block and do all the other things. But I mean, when you play within a system that’s about all you can ask for. And then occasionally you make the plays outside of the X’s and O’s and that’s all he’s done all year. So he gets my vote.”

<h2>Brady Had To Be Strong</h2>



Brady lived the entire transition. He played for over two decades, so he had to thrive in the physical era before being overly protected by today’s pass-happy rules. Regardless of the case, he was never going to show any signs of weakness:



“Everyone thinks I was a p***y out there,” Brady said. “I took every single (hit) and got my a** up. I never wanted a defensive player saying, ‘I knocked the s*** out of him, and he didn’t get up,’ so I made sure I got up.”



At the end of the day, football is the most physical sport out there, so it’s only normal to see the league taking steps to secure and enhance player safety, especially considering the countless cases of CTE and major injuries we’ve seen over the years.

Some may or may not like that, and it’s a fact that they’re making it almost impossible for defensive players to do their job. But if that translates into fewer life-threatening injuries or critical hits, so be it.

Six&nbsp;Super&nbsp;Bowls&nbsp;won with&nbsp;New England&nbsp;and one more with&nbsp;Tampa&nbsp;to become the greatest player ever.



Now,&nbsp;the legend sparked a huge controversy by saying the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> was currently mediocre. It all happened during a special appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show.



“I think there’s a lot of mediocrity in today’s NFL. I don’t see the excellence that I saw in the past. I think the coaching isn’t as good as it was. I don’t think the development of young players is as good as it was. I don’t think the schemes are as good as they were.”

<h2>Alex Smith destroys Tom Brady</h2>



Alex Smith, former quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, took notice of Brady’s comments and reminded him that he had just retired from that mediocre NFL and took advantage of a terrible AFC East.


 

 


“I love Tom, the Goat, but, he hasn’t been retired that long. He was just playing. He just won a Super Bowl in the current game (Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Is he discounting that one? Then, my biggest complaint with this. He played in the most uncompetitive division, I think, in NFL history.”

For almost two decades, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots absolutely dominated their division as there were never true franchise quarterbacks in the Dolphins, Bills or Jets.



Only a few years ago, when Brady left the Patriots and Josh Allen arrived to the Bills, that trend started to change. That’s why Smith doesn’t agree with Tom’s take on NFL’s mediocrity.



“I mean, you come out of training camp, the biggest cupcake division. You got a ticket to the playoffs right away. Like, talk about mediocre. I completely disagree with this. I know he’s referencing the rule changes over the middle to the receiver, but, in my opinion, I think the game’s gotten better.”

<h2>Tom Brady says the NFL is mediocre</h2>



Tom Brady indeed emphasized the rule changes are a big part of this new NFL. “The rules have allowed a lot of bad habits to get into the actual performance of the game. So I just think the product in my opinion is less than what it’s been.”



However, Smith doesn’t believe that’s enough to criticize the entire league. “There’s more parity across the league. Quarterback play is at an all time high. You’ve the best athletes playing the position. We didn’t have this 30 or 40 years ago. He’s referencing also that offense is down. Like, the numbers this year. To me, I kind of think we’re in a golden age of defensive linemen.”

During an episode of his Let’s Go podcast, Tom Brady challenged C.J. Stroud with a huge offer before the long awaited game between Michigan and the Buckeyes. 


 

 


“So, we got a bet. If Ohio State wins, you get one of my Super Bowl rings. If Michigan beats Ohio State, then you got to give me all your youth, your agility, your time in the 40 and all your future years in the NFL. How about that?”

We’re in the most pass-happy era in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> history. Offensive players are posting record-breaking numbers year in and year out, and while high-scoring games are usually more entertaining to the fans, old-school enthusiasts may not feel that way.



That’s the case with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tom-brady" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tom Brady,</a> perhaps the greatest — and definitely the most accomplished — player this game has ever seen, and someone who lived the transition from the good old days to today’s game.



In a recent interview for the Stephen A. Smith show, the seven-time <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Super Bowl</a> champion ripped today’s league, explaining how the new rules have led to a watered-down product and a lack of emphasis on fundamentals:



“I think there’s a lot of mediocrity in today’s NFL,” Brady said “I don’t see the excellence that I saw in the past. I don’t think the coaching is as good as it was. I don’t think the development of the young players is as good as it was. The rules have allowed a lot of bad habits to get into the actual performance of the game. I just think the product, in my opinion, is less than what it’s been.”

<h2>Brady Isn’t Happy With The New Rules</h2>



The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-england-patriots" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New England Patriots</a> legend continued his explanation by talking about Ray Lewis and some of the greatest, most physical defensive players of all time and how they wouldn’t have been able to make the same kind of impact under today’s set of rules:



“I look at a lot of players like Ray Lewis and Rodney Harrison and Ronnie Lott, guys that impacted the game in a certain way,” the seven-time Super Bowl champion continued. “Every hit they would have made would have been a penalty. You hear coaches complaining about their own player being tackled. Why don’t they talk to their player about how to protect themselves? We used to work on the fundamentals of those things all the time. Now they’re trying to be regulated all the time.”



Brady believes it’s not up to the referees or the rivals to protect offensive players. Instead, offensive players should know how to protect themselves and make sound decisions to avoid putting themselves in harm’s way:



“Offensive players need to protect themselves,” Brady argued. “It’s not up to a defensive player to protect an offensive player. A defensive player needs to protect himself. I didn’t throw the ball to certain areas because I was afraid players were gonna get knocked out. That’s the reality. I didn’t throw it to the middle when I played Ray Lewis because he’d knock them out of the game and I couldn’t afford to lose a good player.”

If someone can talk about this, it’s definitely Tom Brady. He actually benefited from these new rules later in his career, but he seems to see things as a fan, not as a quarterback.
