Argentina’s dream could not have started in better fashion. With a sensational Lionel Messi scoring an epic hat-trick, the reigning world champion defeated Algeria 3–0 and secured its first victory in the 2026 World Cup.

The No. 10 scored all three goals (two of them in the second half) and tied Miroslav Klose’s goals record. The African side, on the other hand, was able to do little against its opponent’s dominance.
