It’s not usual to see John Calipari’s teams lose to lesser-known teams. Then again, nothing is a given in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>, and there’s always a David to every Goliath.



Notably, Calipari learned that the hard way against Oakland. Not so long ago, the Golden Grizzlies got the best of his star-studded Kentucky team in one of the worst upsets of his career.



That’s why he knows he cannot afford to overlook them again. So, even though the Arkansas Razorbacks have a date with No. 1 Tennessee after, they need to get past Oakland first.

Fortunately for Calipari, just three current Oakland players were on the roster that pulled off the improbable win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament just one year ago.

NCAA sports are going through a bit of a revolution right now. With the players finally getting paid and the NIL frenzy taking the scene, it’s hard to keep up with everything that’s going on in the scene.



Some things still aren’t clear. There are no clear rules, and with so many scandals about unpaid NIL deals and whatnot taking place, it seems like someone has to take the bull by the horns here.



With that in mind, legendary <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>analyst Dick Vitale called for reinforcements, urging Mike Krzyzewski to become commissioner of college basketball and Nick Saban to do the same for college football.

Needless to say, it didn’t take long before countless fans echoed the same sentiment on social media. Truth be told, it’s hard to think of two people better prepared to solve this than the two legendary coaches.

That may have reached a new low now. According to a report by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, six former Florida State players have filed a lawsuit against Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton over some alleged unpaid NIL fees.



<h2>FSU players demand more than $1.5 million in unpaid money</h2>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“In a landmark filing, six former FSU basketball players are suing Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton over $1.5 million in unpaid NIL cash they say he promised them. The complaint details a team-wide boycott of a practice last season over the payments,” Dellenger reported.</blockquote>

Former Sminoles Darin Green Jr., Josh Nickelberry, Primo Spears, Cam’Ron Fletcher, De’Ante Green, and Jalen Warley claim that Hamilton promised to pay them $250,000 each, and that didn’t happen.



Unsurprisingly, all of them transferred after the season, looking to make the most of their college eligibility and NIL deals while they still can. Needless to say, this doesn’t bode well for the program, and it will only fuel the fire of the never-ending debate about college athletes getting paid.

The Seminoles are 9-4 for the season, and they will now square off vs. Syracuse in a high-flying matchup, all while coach Hamilton tries not to lose focus on this situation.

Jon Scheyer’s team continues to hold onto the No. 4 position in the nation. That was also the case with the top nine teams in the college basketball scene right now.



The Tennessee Volunteers, who have yet to lose a game after 12 contests, continue to lead the way, whereas the Auburn Tigers and Iowa State Cyclones round up the podium. Duke, however, stands alone in their conference.

The Blue Devils are riding high right now. They’ve won six games in a row, and they will square off vs. Virginia Tech on Tuesday for a chance to make it seven in a row.

Notably, that includes former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas. In the latest edition of his podcast, the controversial pundit claimed that Flagg would be better suited as the second or third pick.

Some were expecting to see a little more from Flagg so far. Even so, the Blue Devils are stacked with talent, and they admittedly don’t want to run everything through him.

There’s no such thing as a ‘can’t-miss’ kind of talent when it comes to the NBA Draft. However, if there’s something that comes close to it, it might as well be Ace Bailey.



The 6-foot-10 specimen has drawn comparisons to Kevin Durant because of his rare combination of size and shooting prowess. Some even believe he’s the best player in this class.



That’s a lot to say, considering he’s sharing the podium with the likes of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg </a>and Dylan Harper. Even so, when asked about that, Durant himself gave him his stamp of approval.

Bailey has the length and skills to create his own shot and pull up over any defender in the league, much like Durant. He hasn’t been asked to do much more in college, so there are concerns about his ability to help in other areas.

Even so, and even though he might never be a willing passer because that’s not in his nature, his talent speaks for itself. So far, he’s averaging almost 18 points and 8 boards for Rutgers, and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares if they make the NCAA tournament.

The Kentucky Wildcats have always held a high standard for themselves. As such, it’s not enough to just win and get by: They need to play flawless, winning basketball on both ends of the floor.



Mark Pope’s team was on top of the world. They were riding a seven-game winning streak before a tough loss to the Clemson Tigers. Then, after three wins in a row, they suffered another setback, this time to the Ohio State Buckeyes.



Needless to say, these losses have sounded off the alarms within the program. As good as they’ve been for the most part, the coach is frustrated with their inconsistent shooting.

The Wildcats knocked down just four of 22 three-pointers vs. the Buckeyes, way below the 25 triples they usually hit. That’s also good for just 18% from beyond the arc.

He’s been in charge of UConn for decades now. Moreover, he coached some of the greatest women’s basketball players of all time, including Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi.



That’s why, as much as Daw Staley has also helped South Carolina become a powerhouse, she admitted that there are levels to everything, and UConn has usually gotten the best of them.

The Gamecocks and Huskies have met 13 times with Staley and Auriemma at the helm. The Huskies won seven in a row, all by double digits, but the Gamecocks have now taken four in a row and five of the last six.

For years, fans have berated the fact that high school players can no longer go directly into the NBA. We saw that happen in the past over and over, but it’s been a while since that happened.



The league has shown no desire to go back to the old ways. They still want players to spend at least one year in college or be removed from high school before being eligible.



That’s why Jeff Teague believes it’s a big waste of time. In the latest edition of his podcast, the former All-Star claimed that some players were ready for the pros already.

At the end of the day, it takes more than just skill to thrive in the NBA. And while we’ve seen players like Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, or LeBron James thrive right out of high school, most young players are still raw and need more polishing.

Throughout the course of history, Geno Auriemma has established himself as the most prominent coach in women’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball. </a>As such, he’s coached his fair share of elite talents.



Several of his pupils have gone on to have legendary careers in the WNBA as well. Needless to say, Diana Taurasi might either sit at the top spot of that list or at least close to it.



Notably, their bond transcends the basketball court, and they’re still pretty close to this day. In a recent appearance on “What Drives Winning,” the legendary coach claimed that their similar backgrounds and upbringings helped shape that relationship.

Recently, Auriemma became the winningest coach in NCAA Division I history, taking down Fairleigh Dickinson for his 1,217th career triumph. Of course, Taurasi was in attendance and even shared some words about her former coach.

The 42-year-old is coming off averaging 14.9 points and 3.4 assists per game for the Phoenix Mercury. It’s not so bad for someone who’s been in the league for two decades.

The Arkansas Razorbacks made a big splash when they hired John Calipari to be their next head coach. Unsurprisingly, he worked his magic to have the second-best recruiting class in the nation.



Fast forward to today, and they’ve now won ten of their first 12 games. Even so, they’re just 1-1 against ranked opposition, and they have drawn fair criticism because of that.



The Razorbacks have a tough path ahead of them. That’s why, now that they’re going through a nine-day break and celebrating the Holiday season with their families, their coach urged them to come back stronger than ever.

The SEC is as tough as it’ll ever be, and the Razorbacks will start their conference play early in 2025. That will be a barometer to determine where the program truly stands right now:

UConn star Liam McNeeley has been instrumental in their season turnaround. The Huskies didn’t fare well in the Maui Invitational, shockingly losing all of their games vs. ranked teams.



To add insult to injury — literally — Alex Karaban was diagnosed with a concussion after a collision late in the game vs. Dayton, so he was forced to watch the next two games from the sidelines.



That’s when McNeleey emerged as their savior. He poured in 16 points to help beat Maryland Eastern Shore, and then scored 17 points in a tougher win over No. 15 Baylor. Now, looking back, coach Dan Hurley shared a hilarious quote about recruiting him.

Fortunately for the program, McNeeley wasn’t an idiot. More than that, the forward has helped the team win six consecutive games since that disastrous run in Hawaii.

During that span, he’s averaged 16.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, and he’s also been a disruptive defender as well. Now, coach Hurley’s team is right back in the mix as one of the best in the nation.

Harper has some big shoes to fill in the NBA, as his father can brag about winning five NBA championships. He has yet to make it to the league, but with his averages of 23.3 points, 4.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, it’s just a matter of time.

The early returns have been remarkable. Even though some have been disappointed with his three-point shooting, he’s still been a great all-around player for Jon Scheyer’s team.



Of course, being the biggest name on campus, he was the target of countless ads and posts for the Holiday season. One of them, however, wasn’t happy at all, as he recalled the time his brother broke the dirt bike he had just gotten as a present.

Well, if that’s the worst thing one can remember of his childhood, then that person has had a pretty good life so far. And it’s only going to get much better for him.

That’s why leaving LSU for the pros was a somewhat easy decision. He was eligible to declare for the WNBA Draft, and after deep playoff runs in college and a brewing rivalry with Caitlin Clark, it was about time. 



Even so, she faced some backlash for her decision not to run it back in college. Recently, the Chicago Sky star discussed that decision with her manager, Jeanine Ogbonnaya.

Then, they discussed the narrative about her being able to make more money off of NIL deals than what he ultimately made by turning pro. Needless to say, they respectfully disagreed:

At the end of the day, Reese clearly made the best decision for her. She wound up being the seventh overall pick in the WNBA Draft, and she was named to the All-Star Game in just her first season in the league.
