Just days have passed since the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. Fans in Dallas are still reeling from the loss of their Slovenian superstar. The Dallas Mavericks have yet to play a game at home since the deal, but Klay Thompson offered his take on how the crowd might react.
Mavericks fans have expressed outrage over the trade, making their frustration clear on social media, where the franchise has seen a massive drop in followers, and outside American Airlines Center, where fans have gathered to voice their discontent.
After helping lead his team to a win over the Boston Celtics at TD Garden, Thompson shared his thoughts on the upcoming matchup against the Rockets and the mood he expects in Dallas.
āProbably a lot of heartbreak amongst the fans,ā Thompson said via ESPN. āProbably some boos. But, as a professional, you have to embrace everything, and weāre paid to play this game and perform at the highest levelā.

āI donāt know what to expect. I know Luka was so dear to every Mavs fanās heart,ā he added. āWeāve just got to win, and do it consistently, and give ourselves a chance to win the whole thing, and I think that will ease all of the fansā pain and anger. Itās going to be weird, but thatās what we sign up forā.
Spencer Dinwiddie reflects on Doncicās departure
Mavericks guard Spencer Dinwiddie also commented on Doncicās exit, understanding the fansā emotional response to losing the face of the franchise. āIt shows what Luka meant to the community. It shows how much the fan base loves him. Still loves him,ā Dinwiddie said, via ESPN.
He also drew a comparison between Doncicās time in Dallas and Dirk Nowitzkiās legendary career with the Mavericks. āI think for a fan base that had Dirk for 20 years, and seemingly right when Dirk was about to retire, they got Dirk 2.0 in a sense, itās understandableā.
Jason Kidd addresses the fansā frustration
Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd shared his perspective on the fansā reaction but maintained that his primary focus is on securing a win against Houston. āThings that have taken place ⦠our sympathy goes to the fans, and [we understand] they can be upset,ā Kidd said via ESPN. āBut, at the same time, as a coach, the guys that I have, we have to put them in position to be successful against Houston, and thatās all Iām focused onā.
