Harper had arguably the best game of his <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> career in the overtime win over Washington. He dominated with 34 points, five rebounds, and four assists on 9-of-18 shooting and 4-of-8 from three.



Needless to say, that kind of performance didn’t go unnoticed. It was so impressive that even a former Washington alumni and NBA player like Isaiah Thomas had to give him his flowers.

Dawn Staley is one of the best coaches in all of basketball. Then again, even the best of the best get outcoached at times, and that was the case in her latest outing vs. UConn.



The No. 6 Gamecocks failed to keep up with Geno Auriemma’s team. They shot 38% from the field and 18% from three en route to an 87-58 setback vs. the UConn Huskies.



Of course, that’s not what one would expect from a team with perennial championship aspirations. That’s why she can’t wait for her players to hit the court again.

“We need a game. Get back to just playing our style of play and focusing on playing Gamecock women’s basketball style of play. It really is simple; we just got to apply it,” Staley said.

The legendary coach was hurt and disappointed after such a big loss. Nevertheless, she knows this isn’t the end of the world, and they just need to get back on track:



“You take a loss, you have a tendency to think that, everything’s broken. Everything’s not broken…This is a part of our journey. The journey last year didn’t have a blemish as far as a loss, but there were blemishes. They were just not in the form of a loss. We got to embrace the good, whatever our journey is we’re still in everything that we want to accomplish,” she added.

She already has a torn ACL in her medical record, and she sprained that same knee earlier in the season. Fortunately, she was able to get back on the court after halftime, and she later took to social media to clear the air on her status.

The Huskies are a deep team, and they’re far from a one-player show. Then again, as much as they have resources to get by without Bueckers, it would be a shame to see her go down.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll do it, especially being the top dog in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>right now. But if he were to do so, Aaditya Krishnamurthy of Fadeaway World reports that he would be delaying a potential $400 million payout.

“A standard NBA rookie deal lasts four years, with the players then having the choice to become restricted free agents. Should Cooper Flagg declare himself for the 2025 NBA Draft, his second contract will start from the 2029-30 NBA season,” wrote Krishnamurthy. “And if Flagg lives up to the hype, he could earn a huge contract extension.”

He then went on to detail the potential financial implications that could come with him getting a maximum contract extension. That means he could be pulling the brakes on a $400 million payday:



“The current NBA rules allow for players to sign a rookie scale extension, with the maximum going up to 30% of a team’s salary cap. According to Front Office Sports’ calculations, taking into consideration the annual 10% increase in the NBA’s salary cap, Flagg’s maximum rookie scale extension could be worth $398.5 million over five years, paying him about $80 million a season,” he added.

Of course, there are a lot of ‘ifs.’ First, Flagg would have to return to college, which seems incredibly unlikely. Then, he would have to play well enough and stay healthy to get that kind of deal.

Of course, to each his own, and this seems to be a scenario in which a team couldn’t go wrong either way. They both project to be big-time players at the next level.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have two of the best prospects in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>. One would assume that it would lead them to success, but that hasn’t been the case.



Despite having two potential<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> NBA</a> stars like Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey, the Scarlet Knights have been a middle-of-the-pack team at best, and analysts don’t really love their chances.



That’s why Portland Trail Blazers beat writer Bill Oram also doubts that they will make an immediate impact on their organization, as they haven’t been able to do that in college.

“Rutgers fell to 12-14 on the season with the loss. How is either Harper or Bailey supposed to save an NBA team when they can’t save Rutgers?” he wrote.

Of course, that’s a lot to ask from a rookie. The Blazers need a franchise player, but that doesn’t mean they can’t expect a first-year player to single-handedly rescue them.

We’ve seen star prospects struggle in college or fail to lead their teams to the top, and that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not going to be superstars at the next level.

To say that this has been a roller coaster of a season for the Arkansas Razorbacks might be a huge understatement. That’s not what they envisioned when they hired John Calipari.



The team showed a lot of fight in consecutive wins before struggling again. They know they don’t have that much margin for error, and it’s time to make some big adjustments now.



That’s why, after his team dropped another game, this time to No. 8 Texas A&amp;M Aggies, the Hall of Fame coach got a little emotional and sat down with his team for a heart-to-heart talk.



<h2>John Calipari has ‘heart to heart’ talk with his players</h2>



“For us to bust through, we’re going to have to beat somebody,” he said. “We can say what we want, [but] I wanted to make sure they weren’t happy [thinking] we’re going to be OK. No, if we won that game … we’re in the tournament. So, it’s not OK to say we’ll be all right. Now you’re going to have to go get somebody else.”

The renowned coach knows his team needs to make a statement if they want to make the NCAA Tournament. They’re 15-10 for the season and just 4-8 in conference play.

Of course, there’s still plenty of basketball to be played this year, but with how hard the SEC is right now, it’s hard to envision this team having much wiggle room from now on.

Now, that’s the opposite. They all want to be one-and-done, and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA </a>teams rarely take a look at older prospects because they might be closer to being finished products.



Nevertheless, with the NIL era allowing players to make money, some might choose to stay put for a little longer. As unlikely as that might sound, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg </a>recently claimed he wished he could stay there for longer.

“S—,” Cooper told The Athletic, “I want to come back next year.”

Needless to say, the chances of Flagg running it back with the Duke Blue Devils seem pretty close to zero, even if he doesn’t like the teams with the best chance to get him in the NBA Draft.

He’s been penciled in as the first-overall pick for the past couple of years. Barring a major turn of events, he’s not going to be back, especially if he leads the team to a National Title.

Dan Hurley is a living legend, and the UConn Huskies will forever be indebted to him. Not only did he lead them to back-to-back titles, but he also turned down a job in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> to stay there.



Nevertheless, as good a coach as he is, he’s not particularly great at taking accountability. This complicated season has shown his worst side, and it’s hard to imagine he would be able to withstand the NBA’s scrutiny.



That was evident again after his team’s latest setback, a one-point overtime loss to Seton Hall. Instead of talking about adjustments, he threw his bench players under the bus.

“I don’t know that there’s anyone that’s not starting that is playing harder than the people that are playing. You hope to get more from your bench,” the coach said.

Hurley has earned the benefit of the doubt and has earned his stripes at UConn. So, even after going 17-8 for the season, the fans should give him a vote of confidence.

Nonetheless, he’s made the news for all the wrong reasons multiple times this season, and one can only wonder whether he’s starting to lose his grasp on the locker room.

However, he’s also quite petty, and he’s not the one to take criticism kindly. If anything, he loves to pat himself on the back.



That’s why he didn’t care about Doug Gottlieb’s criticism. Before the analyst took the reins of Green Bay, he wasn’t that impressed with LeBron’s son Bronny’s play. He wasn’t the only one, though.



Gottlieb shared his fair criticism of Bronny’s struggles at USC. So, now that Green Bay is also struggling under his guidance, James didn’t take the high road, and he clapped back at him on social media.

Gottlieb shared similar concerns about Bronny’s games as many scouts and experts. And judging by how Bronny has played this season, it’s not like he was wrong:



“My answer was, ‘He would compete to start. But while I like how he moves the ball and defends, he wouldn’t be my point, and I don’t view him as a point guard. He doesn’t play point guard. He doesn’t want the ball. He doesn’t run a team. He doesn’t want to defend the point guard. He doesn’t play like point,” Gottlieb said on his radio show back in 2024. “So, he wouldn’t be my point, my wings are bigger, and without seeing him with us, it would be hard for him to start; to be honest.”

Only time will tell how Bronny will fare in the pros. For now, however, it’s more than evident that James is keeping receipts, and he holds bragging rights over Gottlieb until further notice.

The Duke Blue Devils continue to roll. They’re the third-best team in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball,</a> according to the latest AP Poll, and they’re marching firm on their way to the NCAA Tourney.



Needless to say, people are quick to credit <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a> for their success, and rightfully so, as the projected first-overall pick in the 2025<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> NBA</a> Draft has been spectacular.



Nevertheless, basketball is still a team sport, and the Blue Devils are far from a one-man show. That’s why it’s so unfortunate to hear that Maliq Brown might be in for a long absence.

“He was playing such a great game too,” Scheyer said. “We got to get the rest of his image, X-rays, MRIs today and we’ll know more moving forward. It’s something where you’re not gonna know. It takes some to see how it heals and recovers. So I probably won’t even know anything this week.”

Of course, the team has more than enough talent and resources to get by even when one of their soldiers is out with an ailment, but this is far from an ideal situation.

That was the case again after their win over Indiana. With his team being on the road yet again, the controversial head coach made sure that everybody got a piece of his mind.



Following the triumph, he took a big shot at Big Ten schedule makers, stating that all the traveling might be taking a toll on his players and stressing the importance of academics.

The Bruins played two games away from home in just four days. First, they suffered a setback to the Illinois Fighting Illini on Tuesday before facing the Hoosiers on Friday.

Of course, that’s far from ideal, but it’s the same way for everybody. This is just a part of the game, and it’s on him as a coach to make sure to tweak his rotations to keep everybody fresh down the stretch.
