When we hear the name ‘Kentucky Wildcats,‘ we usually expect them to be national championship contenders. They’re one of the biggest powerhouses in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> history.



That’s also the case this year. They’re currently ranked at No. 6, which is why it was so surprising to see them drop a game to the Georgia Bulldogs by double digits.



Needless to say, coach Mark Pope was far from satisfied with his team’s performance. Following the loss, he threw them under the bus and called their effort on the glass ‘unacceptable.’

The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 41-34, including 15 offensive boards. On top of that, the Wildcats shot just 37.5% from the field and 24% from three-point range, far behind their usual standards.

While she’s still playing for Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies, she also signed a NIL deal with the new basketball tournament ‘Unrivaled,’ and she’s one of the most popular players in<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> college basketball</a> right now.



That’s why everybody wants to watch her blossom in what might be her final season with the Huskies. With that in mind, USA Today’s “For The Win” asked her about the biggest area of improvement in her game.



<h2>Paige Bueckers wants to be more aggressive</h2>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“It is going well. It is all a toss-up because you don’t want to get outside of yourself and outside of the team and start shot-hunting. But I’m looking to be aggressive first and look for my shot and that leads to distribution to others and getting my teammates open. I think I’ve done a pretty good job. Bueckers knows her experience gives her an edge over other players. Nonetheless, she’s far from a finished product and knows she can still get better before turning pro: 



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“I can only get better from here as well. It is all part of the new challenges that this year has presented. We are very young and we don’t have a ton of experience. So being a leader and having to use my voice and find that new challenge every single day, I’ve enjoyed growing and learning and embracing the ups and downs of it,” added Bueckers. </blockquote>

The Huskies will have to get by without their best player for a while, as she’s currently dealing with a sprained knee. So far, she’s averaged just under 20 points and 2.1 steals per game on 56% shooting and 40% from three.

The Duke Blue Devils are coming off a big win. They made a statement by taking down the Pittsburgh Panthers 76-47, and they remain undefeated in conference play.

That’s not what you’d expect to hear after beating a team by nearly 30 points. Even so, Pittsburgh has been inching closer and closer to the Top 25 over the past couple of weeks.

Not so long ago, UCLA looked like a legitimate contender for the National Championship. Their defense was among the best in the nation, and it wasn’t particularly close.



However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. The No. 22 Bruins lost 75-94 to No. 4 Michigan, and coach Mick Cronin went viral after throwing his players under the bus.



The renowned coach didn’t mince his words about his players, ripping them and their effort in the loss and stating that they just didn’t want to win the game and were ‘soft.’

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“Don’t tell me you want to win,” the coach said, angrily. “You start the game, Tyler Bilodeau gave up 12 points. Two screens, he didn’t say a word, 3s, and then he got dunked on three times. So, just don’t tell me you want to win. I mean, we’re soft.”</blockquote>

The coach didn’t stop there. If that wasn’t enough, he also ripped his players’ attitude and demeanor, going as far as to say that they were ‘delusional’ and full of themselves: 



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“I have to run on the court to get guys to play hard,” Cronin said. “It’s crazy, and it’s every day. I’m tired of it. I’m upset with everybody in that locker room, my assistant coaches and my players. It’s really hard to coach people that are delusional. The hungry dog gets the bone. We’ve got guys that think they’re way better than they are. They’re nice kids. They’re completely delusional about who they are.”</blockquote>

It must have been a very awkward couple of days on campus, and those comments might not do him any favors. The Bruins are now 2-2 in conference play and 11-4 for the season, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can bounce back after this.

Notably, not even Dylan Harper could help them in his latest outing. The projected top NBA Draft pick was erratic in the loss to Wisconsin, and he clearly didn’t look like himself.



Something had to be going on for a player of his caliber to go scoreless. Now, his coach reveals that he’s been battling through severe flu over the past week or so, and he’s still not feeling all that well.



<h2>Dylan Harper is struggling with the flu </h2>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“He certainly was (struggling with the flu). I’m proud of him, he wanted to go tonight,” coach Steve Pikiell told reporters after the game. “But obviously, that flu has taken a lot of him and we got to get him back to normal. I appreciated his effort trying but he didn’t have what he obviously normally has. So we got to get him healthy, it’s that time of the year.”</blockquote>

Pikiell confirmed the reports that Harper has lost nine pounds with the illness, Needless to say, they will give him as much time as he needs to get back on his feet:



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“The flu is bad. He’s been in the middle of it. It’s a bad strand. He hasn’t eaten – that’s what the flu does to you,” Pikiell said. “I appreciate him trying today. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have the most entertaining duo to watch in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>. Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey all look like can’t-miss prospects at the next level.



Bailey is currently slated to be the third-overall pick in the upcoming edition of the NBA Draft. He’s drawn comparisons to players like Kevin Durant or Michael Porter Jr.



That’s why, with the Toronto Raptors struggling and currently projected to have the third selection in the Draft, Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report believes Bailey will end up in Canada.



<h2>Raptors projected to get Ace Bailey</h2>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“It’s a difficult skill to defend from a 6’10” wing, and one that will continue to create advantages for him at the next level,” Wasserman wrote. “Shooting 45.1 percent off the dribble, Bailey also has that special knack for separating into jumpers and hitting contested ones from any spot.”</blockquote>

However, it’s not all positive. Like all young players, he also has flaws in his game that will need to be coached and developed. Even so, he’s a no-brainer with a top-three selection:



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote">“There will be scouts who question his shot selection, tunnel vision and 46.9 percent finish clip on layups. Unless another prospect makes an eye-opening charge, though, it still feels unlikely the team picking third overthinks an 18-year-old scorer with Bailey’s positional size, self-creation and outrageous shotmaking skill,“ Wasserman added.</blockquote>

Of course, it’s still way too early in the process. With plenty of college basketball and the NBA season left to play, Bailey could still climb his way up the ladder and end up being an even higher selection.

Calipari has taken his fair share of future NBA stars under his wing. His days with the Kentucky Wildcats saw him become one of the ‘one-and-done’s gurus, and several of his pupils are currently shining in the league.



With that in mind, NBA star Tyler Herro talked about his experience playing for him. In a recent interview with Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem for ‘The OGs,’ he praised his former coach for pushing him:

For the better part of the college basketball season, UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers has been penciled in as the projected first-overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. 



However, that also comes with some lofty expectations. That’s why some people have been less than impressed with her averages, even though she’s putting up almost 20 points with four rebounds and four assists per game on 56% shooting.



That’s why, in the latest edition of “The Elle Duncan Show,” the renowned analyst didn’t want to hear anything about Bueckers being in some sort of a slump, as some people say.

That pretty much sums it up. Bueckers continues to be one of the best players in the nation, and those numbers don’t show a slump at all. Moreover, her absence will be even more notorious than her presence.

However, even the most calm player can get emotional at times. That was the case with Flagg when he was called for a foul early in the second half of the win vs. Pittsburgh.



Flagg was visibly upset with himself after the call. That’s why, shortly after, he took it on the rim by completing a one-man fastbreak after a steal for one of the most incredible dunks of the season. Following the game, coach Jon Scheyer talked about his pupil’s character.

He’s just so competitive, and he just brings out a lot of good stuff from his teammates.”</blockquote>

The coach continued to praise his young star for his play. Admittedly, that dunk was one of the highlights of the season, and he knows the energy was contagious:

Wooga Poplar has had a strong year this season. However, Eric Dixon might as well be the most unstoppable player in all of<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> college basketball </a>15 games into the season.



That’s why, with his team getting ready to face him on Tuesday night, Coach Hurley tipped his hat to the big man, putting him ahead of players like Ace Bailey or <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg">Cooper Flagg</a>.

Looking at Dixon’s numbers, it’s honestly hard to disagree with that statement. He’s a Player of the Year candidate with a whopping 25.9 points per game on 49% shooting from beyond the arc.

Needless to say, the Huskies will have to bring their A-Game to contain a player of Dixon’s caliber. But if someone can crack the code, that’s most definitely coach Hurley.

There were high hopes and expectations for the Arkansas Razorbacks as they began their conference play under John Calipari. Needless to say, things didn’t get off to the best of starts.



The Razorbacks hit the road to face the Tennessee Volunteers at Knoxville. They wound up losing 52-76, and the veteran coach couldn’t be more angry at his players.



Following the defeat, Calipari didn’t mince his words about his players and the way they approached this game, going as far as to say that multiple guys were ‘no-shows.’

Arkansas didn’t have a lot of time to rest after taking down Oakland on December 30, just five days before their SEC showdown. Even so, Calipari won’t make up excuses.

Of course, we’re also talking about the No. 1 team in the nation, so there should be no shame in losing to Tennessee. Still, the Hogs won’t get very far with that kind of effort.

The Kentucky Wildcats didn’t look like their usual selves on Tuesday night. They failed to keep up with the Georgia Bulldogs, dropping an 82-69 contest against a fellow SEC rival.



They were erratic and couldn’t get into an offensive rhythm. Their opponents, on the other hand, had four different players scoring in double digits and kept pushing the break and sharing the ball.



However, perhaps the most glaring issue came at the free-throw line. The Bulldogs went to the line 38 times, twice as many as Kentucky. Even so, coach Mark Pope won’t blame the loss on the referees.

The coach also admitted that his team has had problems maintaining the intensity throughout the entire game. That’s going to be a point of emphasis for Coach Pope:

We’re doing some deep dives into tandems that work on the floor, but there’s something in there that’s just been troublesome for us. I don’t know if it’s scheme, flow, lineup. We’re still digging into that and we’re fine.”</blockquote>

The South Carolina Gamecock’s championship aspirations may have taken a big hit. Star reserve Ashlyn Watkins is now expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.



The Gamecocks were riding high during the first 15 games of the season. As the defending champions, they were hoping to keep this momentum going for the remainder of the year.



With that in mind, renowned coach Dawn Staley got real on what it means to lose a player of her caliber, especially considering how much she had improved in recent weeks.

I thought she was blossoming the right way.”</blockquote>

The No. 2 ranked Gamecocks have fared quite well this season. Nonetheless, losing a player of her caliber was obviously a big blow. She was averaging 7.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game on 51% from the floor.

Shortly after, he got a steal near the baseline, took the ball down the court, took off at the top of the key, and had one of the most impressive dunks we’ve seen in quite a while. When asked about it, he admitted that he was angry at himself.

Pete “Pistol” Maravich, a legend at Louisiana State University (LSU), amassed 3,667 points over three seasons (1967-1970), averaging an astounding 44.2 points per game. This record remains unbroken, partly because during his era, there was no three-point line or shot clock. He played in 83 games, showcasing his exceptional scoring ability.

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) men’s basketball team set an NCAA record by winning 88 consecutive games from 1971 to 1974. Under coach John Wooden, the Bruins dominated the college basketball scene, securing multiple national championships during this period.

Glen Rice scored 184 points in the 1989 NCAA Tournament, which still holds the record for the most points in a single tournament. Additionally, he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament and led the University of Michigan to the national championship that year. This impressive performance solidified Rice as one of the most iconic figures in college basketball, and his record remains unbroken to this day.

Mike Krzyzewski, affectionately known as “Coach K”, is regarded as one of the most successful and respected coaches in the history of college basketball. With 1,202 victories, he retired as the coach with the most wins in NCAA Division I history. 



During his time at Duke University, he led his team to five national championships and left an indelible mark on college basketball. Additionally, he served as head coach of the U.S. men’s national basketball team, leading them to multiple Olympic and World Championship gold medals, solidifying his status as a pivotal figure in the sport.
