On that note, Hughes’ latest outburst could raise alarms around the locker room—and the city. In more ways than one, it looks like a last-ditch effort from the blueliner to save the season—and perhaps his time in Vancouver.



“I feel like I’ve seen pretty much everything under the sun here—good and bad,” Hughes vividly admitted, as reported by Daily Hive Vancouver’s Trevor Beggs on X. “And you want to win… and losing sucks.”

Ever since he entered the NHL as a first-round selection, Hughes has been one to wear his heart on a sleeve. <h2>Canucks can’t catch a break</h2>



The Canucks are currently dragging a three-game losing skid. Moreover, they have registered just two wins in their last 11 outings. After a 3-1 start to the 2025-26 NHL season, Vancouver hasn’t won consecutive games since. 



Additionally, Hughes and company could very well find themselves in last place in the entire league when they take to the ice to face the Utah Mammoth on Dec. 5 at Rogers Arena. Vancouver’s last win on home ice was on Nov. 9, when they defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3. Since then, the Canucks are 0-3-1 in Vancity.

With the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/florida-panthers">Panthers</a> mired in a three-game losing streak, Marchand and the rest of the team are in much need for a morale and confidence injection. That may just come in the form of Carter Verhaeghe, who is back on the lineup after a one-game leave of absence.



According to Panthers reporter Jameson Olive, Verhaeghe will be back on the lineup when the Cats take on the Nashville Predators at home. Verheaghe missed Florida’s last outing as him and his wife, Casey, welcomed their firstborn, Rory. Perhaps, the new father on the team can help turn the tide for Marchand and the Panthers in what’s been a stressful <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> campaign.



<h2>Verhaeghe is back: Panthers’ updated forward lines</h2>



With the key forward back on the lineup, the Panthers now feature a lineup that looks more familiar. Verhaeghe’s return will be on the third line, joining Sam Bennett and A.J. Greer. Rookie Jack Devine will be coming out of the lineup, making room for ‘Swaggy’. So far in the season—and his NHL career—the former seventh-round pick has appeared in six games, registering no points and a plus/minus of -3.

The second line will feature: Jesper Boqvist, Evan Rodrigues, and Sam Reinhart. Last but not least, the fourth line will include Noah Gregor, Luke Kunin, and Jack Studnicka.

Still, the Panthers are a long ways from truly looking like themselves. It seems that as long as Aleksander Barkov, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/matthew-tkachuk">Matthew Tkachuk</a>, Eetu Luostarinen, Tomas Nosek, and Jonah Gadjovich remain sidelined, these Cats will always look a gear off. If there’s a silver lining, it’s the fact that Tkachuk is back on the ice—though it’s usually in fits and starts, not consistently. 



According to several reports, his timetable for return is still set for late December. After a challenging semester, there may be nothing Marchand and company would like more than to find a fully healthy Tkachuk underneath the Christmas tree. One thing seems clear: the face of the franchise will do everything he can to be on the ice on January 2, when the Cats face off against the New York Rangers in the Winter Classic at LoanDepot Park in Little Havana.

Watching Jonathan Quick go down with an injury was one of them. Although the veteran goalie remains on Injured Reserve (IR), the worst may be in the past.



With the Broadway Blueshirts on the road, the team received encouraging news as the three-time Stanley Cup champion rejoined the group. However, the backup goaltender is still not fit enough to suit up for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-rangers">New York Rangers</a>.



“Jonathan Quick is here in Ottawa but he will not backup tonight,” as reported by The New York Post’s Mollie Walker on X. The 39-year-old netminder will be sidelined for the sixth straight game. Quick’s last appearance was on Nov. 22 during the 3-2 loss to the Utah Mammoth in Salt Lake City.

<h2>Sullivan, Rangers will ride the hot hand in net</h2>

Being short a man is never easy to overcome in the NHL. The Rangers know that all too well, as they’re currently without four players due to injury (Adam Fox, Jonathan Quick, Matt Rempe, and Adam Edstrom). However, losing a goaltender is even tougher to navigate.

For the Blueshirts, they suddenly found themselves with a one-man crew in net. Shesterkin could feel the pressure—either he shut the door or his teammates could wave their season goodbye early. With his back against the wall, there was only one path forward, and he made sure New York never missed its backup goalie for a second.



Over the last five games—when New York had no Plan B in net—Shesterkin has averaged 25.8 saves per game, allowed just 2.2 goals per game, and posted a .918 save percentage. Needless to say, Sullivan and the Rangers are in safe hands while Quick continues his recovery.

While the team appears to be building momentum, Auston Matthews continues navigating the early stages of his return from a recent injury.



The Toronto captain has played only four games since coming back and is still working to regain rhythm and full game speed. Speaking with The Athletic, he noted that while his start has been slower than expected, he sees gradual progress in multiple aspects of his game.

He reiterated that personal production matters, but only within the context of team success. “In the end, I want to produce, I want to score and do all those things,” he said. “But that doesn’t matter if we’re not winning.”

Matthews revealed that his shot is steadily regaining power after the injury, describing the early days of his return as challenging. “Certainly, the first couple of sessions back on the ice, it didn’t feel amazing,” he explained. “Now it definitely feels good… Just gotta work on my accuracy a little bit.”

Now, one of the most experienced players on the roster will serve as a healthy scratch.



Coming into the NHL campaign, Marchand the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/florida-panthers">Panthers</a> knew they were in for a rollercoaster of a year. If the offseason had been chaotic, the regular season would be a whole different beast.



With that in mind, the organization rolled the dice on veteran defenseman Jeff Petry. However, only 25 games into the season, the decision seems to have backfired. Petry hasn’t had the production <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/paul-maurice">Maurice</a> and company expected, so he is now being taken out of the lineup.



<h2>Panthers making changes to the lineup</h2>



As reported by NHL.com’s George Richards, Petry will not be on the lineup as the Panthers gear up to host the Nashville Predators. With no injuries, setbacks, or further explanations given for the decision, all signs indicate the 37-year-old blueliner (who turns 38 on December 9th) will serve as a healthy scratch.

Donavan Sebrango will slot back into the lineup, filling the vacant spot alongside Uvis Balinskis on the third defensive pairing. The Panthers may find a scapegoat in Petry—who has endured some very rough outings—but Marchand and the rest of the team know they hold the key to saving the season. They could go down the blaming road, pointing fingers at one another, or they can rally to get back on track. Rookie Ryan Leonard scored twice and added two assists, becoming the first Capitals rookie with a four-point game since Nicklas Backstrom in March 2008. Leonard’s second goal early in the third period capped a dominating performance from Washington.

Leonard scored again in the third, and Dmitry Orlov’s slap shot off Pavol Regenda’s skate finalized the 7-1 win.

After years of being a walk in the park for opponents, simply being competitive is a positive sign for fans in Chicago. “[We] try to work for each other, and [when] it doesn’t end up working out, it sucks,” Nazar stated, via The Chicago Sun-Times. “There’s spurts in the game where we looked really good and we were outplaying them. [It’s about] just continuing to get rid of those small little mishaps.”



<h2>Bedard keeps his red-hot form</h2>

With his goal against Vegas, Bedard found the back of the net for the 17th time in the 2025-26 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> season. With over 50 games left in the campaign, the former first overall pick is now six goals away from matching his best goal mark in a season (23). So far in the campaign, Bedard registers 38 points (17G, 21A).

The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/detroit-red-wings">Detroit Red Wings</a> boast one of the most exciting rosters for the future in the NHL. However, adding Hughes to the equation could truly put them head and shoulders above the rest of the league for years to come. On that note, insider Elliotte Friedman hinted the Red Wings could make a lot of sense to work out a trade with the Canucks for their franchise player.



“When I rank the teams and I say ‘who can do this and where would Hughes want to go?’ I would say Detroit is very high on my list,” Friedman commented on the Daily Faceoff’s Morning Cuppa Hockey podcast. 



<h2>Who could be on the move for Hughes?</h2>



While the Red Wings have enough pieces on their <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> lineup to make an offer worth their while for the Canucks, it seems Detroit won’t look to dismantle its current squad. On that note, Friedman hinted who could be eyed by the Canucks in order to even consider trading Hughes.

<h2>The Canucks’ nightmare season continues</h2>



Either way, it’s still too early to tell. The Canucks can still turn their season around and quiet the loud buzz around Hughes. However, with the way things have gone lately, Vancouver would almost need a miracle. Over their last 10 games, the Canucks are 2-6-2 — the worst record in the league during that span. 



Moreover, Vancouver hasn’t won consecutive games since October. Needless to say, it’s been a tough season for fans in Vancity so far, and with each loss, Hughes’ name only appears in more trade rumors around the NHL.

During Sam Reinhart’s 800th game in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a>, Marchand and the Panthers were found flat-footed when the Maple Leafs walked into Amerant Bank Arena. Florida can’t end their losing hex, falling in three straight home outings. Returning to Sunrise for a six-game homestand, the Cats hoped for much better results. Now, Reinhart issued a straightforward message for the team.



“There is some frustration, for sure,” Reinhart said, via <a href="https://www.nhl.com/">NHL.com</a>. “A lot of things have gone right for us over the past few years, and that certainly adds to it. But we have been in this position before. It is going to be guys in the room and guys who are healthy who are going to bring us out of it.”



<h2>Reinhart provided the only beacon of hope</h2>



Aside from Reinhart’s milestone, the game against the Leafs was a night that offered little of note. Reinhart scored a shorthanded goal to cut Toronto’s lead in half at 2-1. However, that was all the scoring <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/florida-panthers">Florida</a> did all game. Far from putting the pressure on the visiting Buds, the Cats allowed two more goals to the Leafs.

The Panthers are sensing the pressure. They may act as if nothing bothers them and be confident there is still a lot of hockey left to be played in the 2025-26 NHL season. Still, sooner or later, panic mode will invade the locker room if the losses keep piling up.



“In these situations, just staying with it is the most important thing. But we’ve got to get better. It’s finding that good feeling,” Paul Maurice admitted after the game. “Sometimes it’s not a whole game. You’ve just got to start with a period. I thought we did that tonight even though it felt bad.”



The Panthers must get back in the win column immediately. Having lost four of its last five games, Florida knows it cannot afford another defeat. The Cats must change the tune. Up next, the Panthers will close out their homestand with games against the Nashville Predators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and New York Islanders.

DeBrincat’s second-period strike pushed the lead to 3-0 before Jonathan Aspirot and Steeves narrowed the gap. Gibson made critical saves late in the frame, helping Detroit preserve its advantage. Lucas Raymond’s power-play goal early in the third period gave the Red Wings a 5-2 cushion, ultimately holding off a late Boston push.

<h2>Bruins’ struggles in the rematch</h2>

Bruins coach Marco Sturm admitted his team’s start hurt their chances. “It just wasn’t sharp in the first period,” Sturm said, noting that Swayman had faced difficult defensive coverage.
