Detroit Lions are in trouble after being eliminated from the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> playoffs by the Washington Commanders in the NFC divisional round. Head coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dan-campbell">Dan Campbell</a> received confirmation of another departure on his coaching staff with the departures of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to the Chicago Bears and defensive line coach Terrell Williams to the New England Patriots.



In recent days, several NFL teams have begun the long process of looking for a new head coach. After the Lions’ outstanding regular season, several members of Campbell’s coaching staff were in high demand. The loss to <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/washington-commanders">Commanders</a> accelerated the departure process in the offseason, not only for Johnson to Chicago, but for another key member of Campbell’s staff.



In addition to Johnson and Williams, the third member of Campbell’s coaching staff to leave the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/detroit-lions">Lions</a> is none other than former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who was confirmed as the new head coach of the New York Jets. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ team ends a long search after firing Robert Saleh at the beginning of last season.



<h2>How long had Aaron Glenn been the Lions’ DC?</h2>



Aaron Glenn joined the Lions as defensive coordinator in January 2021, hired by Dan Campbell, who was then newly named head coach. Both had previously worked together with the New Orleans Saints, where Glenn was the defensive backs coach from 2016-2020.

Glenn has been instrumental in changing the culture of the Lions and has contributed to a more competitive team under the leadership of Dan Campbell. Last season, Detroit posted a 15-2 regular season record with a stout defense until they ran into a strong Commanders team.

<h2>Glenn returns to the Jets</h2>



Glenn has a history with Rodgers’ <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-jets">Jets</a>. The former Lions defensive coordinator was a first-round pick of the Jets as a player in 1994. After retiring, he became a scout for New York and will now become their head coach.



Glenn’s tough task is to lead the Jets to the postseason for the first time in 15 years, as the last time the New York franchise played in the playoffs was in 2010, when they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Conference Finals.

The Jacksonville Jaguars continue their long search to replace the fired head coach Doug Pederson after the poor performance of quarterback <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/trevor-lawrence">Trevor Lawrence</a>‘s team in the 2024 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> season. The main target for the position was Liam Coen, but in the last hours he decided to continue as offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.



Coen and the Jaguars were scheduled to have a second interview, but the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tampa-bay-buccaneers">Buccaneers</a> won the battle when they inked a new contract that makes the Tampa Bay staffer one of the highest-paid coordinators in the NFL.



The same has happened with Ben Johnson, another of Jacksonville’s top targets for the HC position heading into next season. The former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator was confirmed as the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, so the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/jacksonville-jaguars">Jaguars</a> will continue to evaluate their candidates.



<h2>Jaguars’ new head coaching target</h2>



The Jaguars are extending their search for a few days after Coen’s rejection. According to NFL insider Michael DiRocco, former New York Jets coach <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/robert-saleh">Robert Saleh</a> is one of the names the Jaguars are considering most for the head coaching position.

Saleh will be interviewed by the Jaguars on Friday, though they will speak again with Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham first. Another name gaining traction after Coen’s rejection is Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

<h2>Rebuilding the Jaguars</h2>



The Jaguars are on a mission to reinvent themselves after two disappointing seasons. Head Coach Pederson posted a 22-29 record during his time in Jacksonville from 2022 to January 2025. Although his first season was highlighted by a strong playoff performance in 2022, results have not lived up to expectations in subsequent seasons.
