Earlier this year, the Chiefs opted for an experienced quarterback to support Mahomes. Carson Wentz has returned to the AFC after a brief stint with the Colts, joining the current back-to-back champions.

The 31-year-old quarterback shared that despite his short time in Kansas City, he has formed a strong relationship with Patrick Mahomes. Surprisingly, he has revealed that despite his experience, he has learned a lot from the three-time Super Bowl champion.



“He just processes the game really quickly,” Wentz said of Mahomes. “He calls protections, he’s in and out of the huddle and throwing anticipatory throws, all that stuff, all that stuff you see from afar. But it’s just fun to see it and in some respects just see different windows on plays that maybe you didn’t see before because he’s playing so quickly out there.”

“[There are] lots of unknowns about the future. It’s all [about] taking one day at a time, first and foremost. But, you know, [there is] big intrigue in wanting to come here. Why I’m here today is just the winning culture and seeing it from afar,” Wentz said, via ChiefsWire.



Selected second-overall by the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/philadelphia-eagles">Philadelphia Eagles</a> in the 2016 NFL Draft, the North Dakota State product was an MVP candidate in his second year until a serious knee injury ended his season. The Eagles went on to win Super Bowl LII without him, and though Wentz got the job back after he recovered, his level was never the same again.

“Seeing around the league for the last couple years, and just the culture that coach Reid has kind of set, and you see it and have admired it for years,” Wentz said. “That was a big piece of the puzzle for me and the desire to be here on a winning team, in a good culture, in a good community with a good fan base. <h2>Wentz’s familiarity with Andy Reid, Chiefs</h2>



While Kansas City means a new story for Wentz, there’s a connection that may help him settle in. Doug Pederson, who was Wentz’s head coach in Philly, served as coordinator under Reid before taking over in the City of Brotherly Love, where he also played quarterback with Reid as HC.



“Yeah, I mean, I don’t know the X’s and O’s yet,” Wentz said. “I see them from afar watching film or games, you know, whenever I’d see the Chiefs on, on film and those types of things. But I would imagine it’ll make sense to me pretty quick because of that, you know, being five years with Coach [Doug] Pederson. And that offense is, you know, there’s always little intricacies and differences.”

This will be Wentz’s second year serving as a backup quarterback, after struggling to establish himself as a starter since he left the Eagles. Though it’s not easy to spend more time on the sidelines, the 31-year-old believes the Chiefs are the best opportunity in years for him.



“I think a lot of it will make sense to me and kind of resonate with me pretty quickly,” Wentz explained. “That part I’m looking forward to, you know, the last couple of years, offenses have been very different than I’ve been in. I’ve goten to see a lot, experience a lot. So I think this one will hit home and be the most familiar for me over the last couple of years.”

That seemed to destroy his chances of being a starting quarterback in the league, but he’s still seen as a great fit for a backup role. OK? And that pisses me off because the young man doesn’t deserve to have that all the time.”

<h2>Wentz Says Playing For Rivera Is Special</h2>
Moreover, it seems like Wentz didn’t take things personally, either. If anything, he had plenty of praise for coach Rivera, stating that it’s special to play for him and that he knows he won’t sugarcoat things:
“Coach Rivera, he’s awesome,” Wentz said. “I have a ton of respect for him playing in this league from afar, but getting to play for him is even better. It’s definitely special. . … He’s going to speak his mind. And he’s going to be very direct and to the point. And in this business, that means a lot. And I think guys love that about him.”

Jameis Winston played only seven games last season and was posting the best passer rating of his career. The New Orleans Saints gave him an elite set of new weapons in Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry, and Michael Thomas will be back from injury.
Winston has the physical traits and tools to be the best QB in the league. He needs to stay healthy and avoid those risky and unnecessary mistakes he often makes. Otherwise, he may not even be on a roster by next season.

It’s been a while since Marcus Mariota was a starter. He now gets a fresh start with the Atlanta Falcons, but we all know he’s just a place-holder until Desmond Ridder is ready to take over and lead the offense.
Mariota needs to prove why scouts were so high on him coming out of Oregon. He needs to make plays with his arm as often as he does with his feet, as this will be his final shot to be a starter in the National Football League.

This will be Carson Wentz’s third team in as many seasons. He fell from grace after being an MVP candidate, and he’s mostl yto blame for the fact that the Indianapolis Colts missed the playoffs last season.
If Ron Rivera can’t fix Wentz’s uncoachable nature, then no one will. The Washington Commanders have a nice set of weapons and the NFC East is always up for grabs. What version of Wentz will we see?

Even though the Carolina Panthers didn’t trade for Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo, that doesn’t mean they’re sold on Sam Darnold. If anything, the Matt Corrall pick only proves he’s walking on thin ice right now.
The word around the league is that the Panthers’ starting QB job is up for grabs. Moreover, they could pull the plug on Darnold mid-season and trade for a veteran if he starts dropping the ball—both literally and figuratively— again.

Yeah, we know most QBs struggle in their first year and that Peyton Manning looked like a bust in his rookie season. But Trevor Lawrence’s performances were somewhat worrisome considering how much of an elite prospect he was.
The Jacksonville Jaguars won’t win many games and they didn’t do him any favors. But after watching Joe Burrow’s leap in his sophomore season, pressure could keep mounting on Lawrence if he doesn’t start balling out in year 2.

Carson Wentz’s career hasn’t panned out the way most people expected. This season will also give Wentz the chance to play against the Eagles for the first time in his career. Needless to say, there’ll be some mixed reactions from the crowd and plenty of emotion overall:
“I know that’ll be a big game. A lot of emotions,” Wentz said. “I’m sure fans will eat that one up and it’ll be fun — make for a good storyline. But at the end of the day, it’s going to be just another ballgame. It’s going to be a huge divisional game for us when that one comes. So I’m excited for it, but at the same time, I’m trying not to get too excited for that one, because, again, it’s just football. Can’t press. Can’t do too much.”
Wentz failed to live up to the expectations that come with being the second-overall pick of the Draft, but he’s still young and could turn the page. This, however, will be his final chance to do it.
