The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Golden State Warriors</a> made a bold move when they traded for<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chris-paul" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Chris Paul</a>. They struggled to take care of the basketball last season, and adding one of the greatest playmakers of all time would certainly help in that regard.



Even so, his fit next to<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stephen-curry" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Stephen Curry,</a> and more importantly, the possibility of coming off the bench, raised doubts about the success of this experiment. So far, so good for Steve Kerr’s team.



Paul shook off some questions about his potential role as a reserve during the offseason. He seemingly had a tough time dealing with the idea, but he didn’t allow his ego to get in the way of his team’s sake, and he agreed to do whatever coach Kerr asked of him.

<h2>Chris Paul Talks About Coming Off The Bench </h2>



“It was different,” the veteran guard admitted. “At the end of the day, it’s basketball. Once you get out there, it’s hooping. It’s cool to be on a team where you’re free-flowing.”



Paul raved about how the rest of the players made it easier for him to get his rhythm going. Also, he admitted this could help him prolong his career and stay fresh for when it matters the most:



“Everybody playing &amp; sharing the ball,” Paul added. “It’s whatever I got to do to help our team win. If it means that, it means not finishing some games, or whatnot. If you get a chance to play long enough in your career, there’s gonna be things that will change and be different. I’m here.”



Not many veterans are able to make that adjustment and gracefully deal with the fact that they’re not starters anymore. Some would flat-out rather retire from the league first.

<h2>Paul Needs To Come Off The Bench</h2>



Chris Paul is undeniably one of the greatest players of his generation and arguably the last great ‘pure point guard.’ But he has a long withstanding history of shortcomings in the postseason, either because of injuries or subpar performances.



This might be his best — and last — chance to put all that behind him and finally win an NBA championship. He needs the Warriors as much as they need him, if not more.



More than that, Paul is 38 years old, and he might not have a lot of basketball left ahead of him. Every minute counts at that point in his career, especially if you’ve been prone to suffering soft-tissue injuries in your career.

The Warriors can keep his minutes in check to make sure he stays fresh for the playoffs. And while he shouldn’t have anything left to prove — legacy-wise — after everything he’s accomplished in the league, winning an NBA championship as a big contributor for a team like this would turn the narrative around him once and for all.

Granted that the 0-3 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/houston-rockets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Houston Rockets</a> aren’t the best rival to be measured against, but the early returns of this experiment were quite encouraging nonetheless.



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/draymond-green" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Draymond Green</a> made his season debut, meaning <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chris-paul" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chris Paul</a> headed to the bench for the first time in 1,365 games. The Warriors were able to deploy their same lineup for last season, all while their latest addition pulled the strings of the second unit.



Needless to say, Green knows Steve Kerr’s offense like the back of his hand, as he’s been a centerpiece of it since 2015. Even so, he still needs to make sure to be on the same page with Paul, as they’re likely to share plenty of time on the floor, especially in clutch-time situations.



With that in mind, the four-time <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> champion talked about how he must learn Paul’s tendencies and preferences in the pick-and-roll, so he can help him be as efficient as possible with his screen-setting.

<h2>Draymond Needs To Learn Paul’s PnR Tendencies</h2>



“(Have to figure) out what he likes in the pick-and-roll,” Green told The Athletic. “That’s what I try to do. Different guys like different screening angles. He may want a hand-off. He may want a pitch-back. He may want a step up. But, like I said, I think we are two of the smartest guys in the league. When you can put two of the smartest guys in the league on the floor on the same team with the weapons we have around us, I like the odds.”



Green missed the entire preseason with an ankle injury. He was with the team and obviously watched his teammates play, but he now needs to ramp things up and get to full speed:



“The preseason went really well for us,” Green said. “You got young guys showing what they’re capable of and taking proper steps. It’s good to see the growth of JK [Jonathan Kuminga] and Mo [Moses Moody]. I like where we are heading. How I fit in is what we have to figure out. It may not be what it was before, but you have to figure it out.”



<h2>It’s Now Or Never In The Bay</h2>



The Warriors made a win-now move by trading for Paul. They still have confidence in their championship core and believe they have as good a chance as everybody else of winning another ring for as long as Stephen Curry is in his prime.

They got off to a good start to the season, winning two of their first three games and being quite close to being 3-0. Also, they added some interesting pieces for depth in the offseason, with Dario Saric already thriving in Kerr’s system as a poor man’s Draymond Green with his playmaking and defense.

Then again, they should be quick to make moves if this new core of players doesn’t fit the expectations, as they’re not getting any younger, and their title window could close right before their eyes.

Paul is obviously one of the greatest playmakers of in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> history, but the Warriors already had an elite point guard in Curry. On top of that, Steve Kerr’s offense favored constant movement over halfcourt sets, so Paul’s methodical and somewhat slow-paced style of play seemed like an odd fit.



Most pundits and fans assumed that Paul would come off the bench to lead the second unit, which made the most sense. Then, they would stagger his minutes with Curry and make sure to have one or the other on the court at all times.



However, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/draymond-green" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Draymond Green’s</a> injury forced Kerr’s hand to try and make an adjustment. He started Paul alongside Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney, and he almost beat the<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/phoenix-suns" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Phoenix Suns</a> in the season opener.



<h2>Curry Talks About ‘Fluid’ Offense With Chris Paul</h2>



Despite the loss, Steph actually liked what he saw when he shared the floor with Paul. He believes it won’t take time before they get used to playing together and find their groove in this new ‘fluid’ offense.



“Just continue to get more comfortable, and who’s initiating where shots are going to fall or come from, sets that we can run depending on who has the ball. It’s very fluid right now,” Curry said. “It’s such a smooth transition because we both just know how to play, and there’s a lot of trust that whoever has the ball is going to try and make the right decisions.”



Kerr had Paul start and come off the bench in the preseason. It could take a while before they settle in, and nothing is set in stone right now. Even so, Curry has full confidence in their ability to coexist on the floor:



“We’re one game, a couple of preseason games under our belt, feeling like there’s been a lot of confidence that’s been building in terms of what we’re trying to do,” continued Curry. “We’re going to obviously continue to get better, 81 more, and when Draymond gets back, there’s going to be even more to try to figure out in terms of rotations and all that. We communicate really well. We talk basketball and try to figure it out. That’s going to get us in the right position.”



<h2>The Warriors Miss Draymond</h2>



Even so, everything could — and will — change once Draymond is back from his ankle injury. Paul will likely head to the bench, and he’ll give the Warriors more size, a versatile defender, and some sense of continuity to the offense they’ve been running for years now.

The reigning <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> champions limped their way through the finish line in the regular season after dealing with some off-court issues, from Jordan Poole and Draymond Green fighting in training camp to Andrew Wiggins missing half of the season with an undisclosed family matter.



As tough as the blow was, the championships are a championship-caliber organization, and the players will handle themselves as such. That’s why they’re taking this season with a clean slate approach and the same hunger — if not more — than every year.



That includes the NBA’s new Play-In Tournament. While it seemed like the players weren’t so high on the idea at first, it now seems like it’ll give the Dubs a great opportunity to prove themselves and make a statement early in the campaign.



According to Warriors president Brandon Schneider, the Warriors’ veterans have already made it loud and clear that they intend to take that trophy home from Las Vegas.

<h2>Draymond Green, Chris Paul Want To Win Play-In Tournament</h2>



“It’s just going to add that much more where you’re going to see the guys playing another notch harder trying to win that cup,” Schneider told NBC Sports Bay Area. “Here’s all I need to know about the cup, and hopefully fans agree.”



Apparently, Draymond Green and Chris Paul already reached out to new GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. to let them know their intentions of taking the whole thing, so they better not consider load management or focusing on anything else:



“I said to [Warriors general manager] Mike Dunleavy about a month ago, I said, ‘Hey Mike, what do you think about this in-season tournament?’ He said, ‘Well, Draymond Green and Chris Paul told me we’re going to win it.’ I said, ‘OK, that’s all I needed to know,‘” added Schneider.



The tournament will begin Friday, November 3, and all qualifiers will be played on Tuesdays and Fridays that month. The Warriors share their group with the Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, and San Antonio Spurs.

<h2>Do The Warriors Have Another Run In Them?</h2>



For years, rival fans and pundits have tried to predict the downfall of the Warriors’ dynasty. Some thought it had already happened as they had missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, just to watch them win their fourth ring of the decade the very next year.

“Basketball. I’m being serious, it sounds so simple, but I’ve got 19 years of experience,” Paul told Zena Keita of NBC Sports Bay Area on the latest “Dubs Talk”. “The game hasn’t changed unless they started shooting with something different. I played two years in college, I feel like what I’ve been fortunate enough is this isn’t my first time changing teams. So it’s not the first time I’ve heard outside noise. So every time I change teams, everyone says it’s not going to work.”

At 38, Paul knows this could be his last opportunity to challenge for a highly elusive championship. The Warriors seem to have what it takes to contend, as they’re running things back with their core of Curry, Klay Thompson, and Green.



Besides, the team also has high expectations on what Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins can bring to the table. Mike Dunleavy also made significant changes on the rotation, hoping to improve last season’s performance.



<h2>Warriors hoping to get back to the top</h2>



With Bob Myers no longer in the front office, the new general manager stayed busy trying to put the Warriors in a position to succeed again. Last year, Curry carried the team to the playoffs but he couldn’t take it past the Conference Finals, where the Dubs lost to LeBron James’ <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-lakers">Los Angeles Lakers</a>.

Dunleavy has therefore decided it was time to shake things up. The fact that he surrendered a young star such as Poole – who was expected to be the franchise’s face in the future – to get Paul is a testament to their belief in the former Suns superstar.



“Probably with how seamless it’s been,” Paul said about the transition. “As far as the guys and whatnot. I remember the first day going to the gym in LA and everybody was going to be there together. I took my son and a couple of his friends, so you just never know what it’s going to be like.
