Joe Mixon was part of a powerful offense with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/joe-burrow">Joe Burrow</a> on the Cincinnati Bengals, but the running back is already enjoying life with CJ Stroud on the Houston Texans after a perfect start to the 2024 NFL season.



The 28-year-old, who spent seven years in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cincinnati-bengals">Cincinnati</a> before being traded to Houston in March, made it clear he’s not even interested in playing his former team: “I just wanna leave them where they’re at, just like they left me.”



Mixon’s comments to NBC Sports came right after playing an instrumental role in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/houston-texans">Texans</a>‘ 29-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, when he ran for 159 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.



Needless to say, that’s not a bad way to start a new chapter in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a>. And even though this was only his first game on the Texans, Mixon believes he’s found a better team than the Bengals.

“Yeah, no doubt,” Mixon said. “I definitely did, man, and … I feel great to be appreciated here and to play a big part in what we do. I’m [going to] just do whatever is asked of me as a player. … You know, be the best teammate and leader that I know how to be. I’m just happy that I’m on this side now.”

<h2>Mixon, Diggs boost CJ Stroud’s Texans</h2>



Mixon was not the only notable addition to the Texans’ offense this season. Houston also surrounded <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cj-stroud">CJ Stroud</a> with a top weapon in wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who also played a key role on Sunday’s win.



The former Buffalo Bills star may have only recorded 33 yards on six catches, but they proved crucial as the wideout recorded two touchdowns. After the game, Stroud had nothing but praise both for Mixon and Diggs.



“They are two great leaders. They were constantly on the sideline, picking guys up, telling everybody we just need to be better,” Stroud said, via ESPN. “I definitely think both those guys having big games will definitely just keep us trending up. Once you set a standard, everybody else kind of falls to that standard and wants to follow that. So I definitely love those guys, and love what they’ve been doing, and I think they’re just getting started.”



<h2>Not a good start for Burrow, Bengals</h2>



While the Texans celebrated a victorious start to the season, Joe Burrow and the Bengals are already in trouble as they suffered an unexpected home loss to the New England Patriots.

The Houston Texans debut got off to a strong start in a highly competitive game that was decided in the final moments, with the offensive prowess of the visitors tipping the scales in their favor. Winning a divisional matchup in Week 1 adds extra significance to the Texans’ victory over the Colts. With this in mind, the AFC South now has a serious contender aiming to capture the division title and make a strong push for a playoff spot.

These two teams are an attractive destination especially for offensive players, considering <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/patrick-mahomes">Mahomes</a> and Stroud make those around them better. In fact, wide receiver Mike Evans admitted he’d have considered joining the Chiefs or Texans had he hit the open market.



“I mean, in the back of my mind, I’m thinking Houston, Kansas City,” Evans told NFL Media. “I love Pat Mahomes’ game. I’m thinking those two teams. And I’m obviously thinking the Bucs.”



Evans was expected to draw plenty of interest in free agency but he agreed on a two-year, $52 million extension with the Buccaneers before he could even explore his options. In an attempt to help Stroud reach new heights, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/houston-texans">Texans</a> have pulled off one of the biggest moves in the summer by landing star wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills. Additionally, Houston managed to get running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals.

During a recent interview on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, the Houston Texans quarterback threw shade at what the four-time NFL MVP has achieved with the Green Bay Packers.



“If you give Matthew Stafford a chance like Aaron Rodgers, I guarantee he might’ve had more rings, for sure,” Stroud said, via CBS Sports. The second-year QB went on to heap praise on Stafford, who spent much of his career with a struggling Detroit Lions team before he could finally win a <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">Super Bowl</a> with the Los Angeles Rams at the age of 34 in 2022.

But not only did Stroud suggest Rodgers fell short by winning only one Super Bowl ring at Lambeau Field, he also questioned how Rodgers interacts with the rest of his teammates.



“You know what I think it is? I’ve talked to Tom Brady about this because he’s a good mentor to me. What he told me is his teammates, and how he treats his teammates. And that’s where I think it falls off for Rodgers. We don’t know how Aaron Rodgers treats his teammates, but you can guarantee that Tom Brady treats his teammates right because how he got those rings.”



Another quote from the interview that made noise on social media was Stroud choosing Eli Manning‘s career over Rodgers’. “You want the rings, Eli got two,” Stroud said.



This situation will definitely create even more excitement for the Thursday Night Football game between the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/houston-texans">Texans</a> and Jets on Oct. 31. Schultz signed a one-year, $6.25 million contract to play the 2023 season. In 15 games, he registered 59 receptions for 635 yards, five touchdowns and 35 receptions for first down. These numbered have guided him to a new contract.



On Tuesday, the Texans announced that they have signed Dalton Schultz to a 3-year, $36 million contract extension. He will now earn twice as much per year as he did in 2023.

This is a very smart move by Houston. Stroud proved to feel very comfortable with Schultz as his primary tight end. They won’t have to worry about the TE position for at least three more years, and by then, the quarterback won’t need an experienced one to make the offense work.

The biggest question is which teams <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-the-five-teams-with-the-most-chances-of-winning-the-super-bowl-lviii-20231110-BUS-84093.html">will make the Super Bowl</a>, but the individual awards are also an intriguing topic in the league.



While it may be too soon to tell who will win MVP, we already have an idea about those who could be in the conversation. The likes of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/patrick-mahomes">Patrick Mahomes</a> and Jalen Hurts are obviously in the mix, though there could be other candidates as well.



Miami Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey are making a case to be in consideration too. But since the Offensive Player of the Year also exists, the MVP award is often reduced to quarterbacks.



That’s why we’re going to take a look at three dark-horse candidates only considering signal-callers. Given that QBs are more likely to win the MVP than other players, we’ll mention those who may run from behind the bookmakers’ favorites.

Jared Goff is the face of a potentially historic season for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/detroit-lions">Lions</a>. The 2016 first-overall pick had to rebuild his reputation after being traded by the Rams in 2021, but Detroit proved to be the perfect place for him to get his career back on track.

Goff ranks fifth in passing yards this season (2,507), while he also threw for 14 touchdowns and just five interceptions. His team is currently atop the NFC North with a 7-2 record, having a serious chance to win its first division title since 1993.



On paper, the Lions are favorites to win most of the remaining games in their schedule. That could give Goff the opportunity to continue making a case for himself. But only time will tell us if he ultimately makes the MVP conversation.



<h2>2. CJ Stroud</h2>



We’re running out of words to describe <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cj-stroud">CJ Stroud</a>‘s first year in the NFL. The rookie quarterback has quickly changed the Houston Texans‘ fortunes, and sometimes it’s hard to tell that he was playing in college only a year ago.

On top of that, his two interceptions are the lowest among quarterbacks who started at least eight games. Rookies often don’t make the MVP conversation as we already have the Rookie of the Year award, but if Stroud continues to take the Texans to new heights, he may be the exception.



<h2>1. Dak Prescott</h2>



Some may argue that <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dak-prescott">Dak Prescott</a> wouldn’t be a dark-horse candidate, and that’s fair. But the truth is that his name hasn’t been mentioned that much, which is why it’s safe to say his MVP candidacy is being quite overlooked.

His story is quite interesting, having won Offensive Rookie of the Year after being selected in the fourth round by the Cowboys in 2016. But Prescott hasn’t lacked in doubters in the following years, as he has yet to take Dallas to a deep playoff run.



The 30-year-old, however, has been on fire recently. With 2,415 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, Prescott ranks third in QBR (72.6). His MVP chances may depend on whether the Cowboys overtake the Eagles in the NFC East, though. It doesn’t look easy, but we’ll see when it’s all said and done.
