<h2>Why was Jimmy Garoppolo suspended?</h2>



Jimmy Garoppolo just received a new opportunity with the Los Angeles Rams as the backup quarterback of Matthew Stafford. Before this adventure with head coach Sean McVay, the 32-year old player admitted he is the one to blame for the upcoming suspension. 


 

 


Garoppolo used a prescribed medication without having a valid Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) from the NFL. “I mean, just messed up the TUE, really. I hate to joke about it, but just messed up the TUE when I first got to Las Vegas and yeah, bad timing, I guess.”

Following a lackluster, one-year tenure with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/las-vegas-raiders">Las Vegas Raiders</a>, the 32-year-old has reportedly struck a deal with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-rams">Los Angeles Rams</a>.



According to NFL insiders Mike Garafolo and Peter Schrager, Jimmy G is moving to California on a one-season deal. Now, he’s expected to serve as backup to Matthew Stafford for a team with serious aspirations.



Garoppolo comes from a tough year in the Sin City, having thrown for 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions in seven games with the Raiders in 2023. His turnovers cost him the job quickly, with the team eventually releasing the quarterback.



Now, the Eastern Illinois product finds himself with a different situation as he knows the Rams already have their starter. Since things didn’t work out in Las Vegas, Garoppolo may have to settle with having a place on the bench for 2024.

<h2>Rams get insurance despite Garoppolo’s suspension</h2>



The Rams are bringing in Garoppolo knowing that the quarterback has to serve a two-game suspension from the National Football League for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy. According to ESPN, the violation is related to “using a prescribed medication without having a valid Therapeutic Use Exemption.”

Even so, the Rams know they have an insurance for the rest of the year if anything happens to Stafford. Garoppolo got the opportunity to establish himself as a starting QB in the NFL, leading the Niners to a <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">Super Bowl</a> appearance in 2020. Injuries caught up to him and San Francisco eventually moved on, but he’s still considered a great backup option. With 15,494 passing yards, 94 touchdowns and 51 interceptions under his belt throughout his career, the Rams will be his fourth team in the NFL.

Not many people get drafted to a team, win a World Championship with that team and retire with that team. I do not, and will not, take that for granted.”

That’s why <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/baker-mayfield">Baker Mayfield</a> looked for advice from his former Los Angeles Rams teammates, who were knocked out by the Bucs’ upcoming opponents last weekend.



“They said it was the loudest thing they’ve ever heard,” said Mayfield, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “We’ve got to be completely ready for that. It just comes down to everybody knowing exactly what our game plan is — all the calls to and from, because there could be certain times where they can’t hear certain things.” 



Mayfield spent a few months with the Rams to replace an injured Matthew Stafford late in 2022, so his relationship with that team is still fresh. And it looks like the most important tip they had for the quarterback has to do with the atmosphere created on the stands rather than something specific to take into account from the opponents’ players.



“They might have to plug and play some of the words. Just everybody doing the mental work to get prepped for that. But it shouldn’t be a surprise for us. It’s going to be a great atmosphere,” Mayfield added.

<h2>Mayfield, Goff take the limelight</h2>



One of the most interesting storylines ahead of this divisional round game has to do with both quarterbacks. While Mayfield’s first year with the Bucs has exceeded expectations, Jared Goff is getting recognition after being snubbed by the Rams in the past.

Mayfield, 28, has been able to rebuild his reputation after bouncing around different franchises. Selected first overall in 2018, Mayfield had an ugly breakup with the Browns in 2022 before signing for the Panthers, who cut him a few months later.



With Tom Brady retiring for good and limited cap space, the Bucs saw in Mayfield an interesting opportunity available in the open market. The QB <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-news-baker-mayfield-reacts-to-success-with-bucs-replacing-tom-brady-20240117-BUS-98385.html">went on to post career-highs</a> in passing yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage to take the team up to this stage.



Goff also has a story of redemption, having been traded by the Rams in 2021. By then, the Lions were still one of the weakest teams in the league, and Los Angeles won the Super Bowl only a few months later. It’s safe to say that was tough for the quarterback.
