Following a lackluster campaign, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-england-patriots">New England Patriots</a> want to come back stronger this year. 2022 was a difficult year for the offense and especially for <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mac-jones">Mac Jones</a>, who almost lost his job to Bailey Zappe.



The team made significant changes this offseason, though. Bill O’Brien returned to Foxborough as offensive coordinator and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/bill-belichick">Bill Belichick</a> added weapons to the unit, but he may not be done yet.



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/deandre-hopkins">DeAndre Hopkins</a> is still out there after being released by the Cardinals, so the Patriots can bring extra help for Jones. When asked about it, the Alabama product made it clear he would like to throw passes to D-Hop.

“I think that’s definitely a hypothetical, but I think DeAndre is a great player,” Jones said, via ProFootballTalk. “You watch his film from college all the way through the NFL, he’s done a great job. So obviously, we’d love to have him.“



But don’t take him wrong, Jones also gave the current WR room their flowers. Landing Hopkins would give the offense a huge boost, but if not, the third-year quarterback has full confidence in his current teammates.



“We just know that we want to win and I know that all the guys feel the same way. But I’ve been really pleased with the playmakers that we have on our team,” he added. “We’ve come out here and really bought into the system. That’ll really show in training camp, preseason and stuff. It’s sometimes hard to show that out here [during the offseason program].



“But I’ve been really pleased with the tight ends, running backs, and all the receivers, the young guys the old guys like DP [DeVante Parker] and everybody. So, we have a good group. And definitely feel like we just need to keep growing together. And whoever is in that room, we’re just going to try to dominate together.”



The Patriots signed <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/NFL-News-Bill-Belichick-steals-weapon-from-Patrick-Mahomes-for-Patriots-20230315-0026.html">former Chiefs wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster</a> after parting with Jakobi Meyers, in addition to the arrival of former Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki. The calendar for the 2023 season was confirmed a month ago. That’s something that could be a huge part of how teams end up doing depending on how their games are distributed. However, that doesn’t apply to the preseason.

“That’s what’s being asked of me right now,” Stevenson told the Boston Herald about his new-found leadership role. “I’m trying to take that step. It’s still early, but I’m trying to take that step to be a leader.”



“Just getting in shape again, just getting my wind back,” Stevenson continued “Damien’s [Harris] out of here now so I’m kind of the guy, so just trying to make sure I’m ready for the end of the season.”



<h2>Stevenson Is Getting Ready For The Season</h2>



Likewise, he knows he’s going to be in for an expanded role in 2023. Bill Belichick has never doubted sending a player back into the dog house, so he knows he needs to back up the talk with his play:



“It’s just a long season. You just have to mentally prepare for that long season,” Stevenson added. “That’s the best thing you can do, just mentally prepare, just know that it’s a 17-game season and have to get after it.”



“I think just getting years under your belt in this league brings confidence,” Stevenson continued. “I think I’m pretty confident, just being around almost the same guys for three years, just building that chemistry is bringing us closer and play better.”



There will be no more margin for error in Foxboro. The patience is running out, and there could be plenty of changes if things don’t pan out this season, so the fans better hope Stevenson has a breakout year as expected.

Notably, some reports stated that Jones’ status as QB1 wasn’t certain, and even Belichick claimed that everyone — including Bailey Zappe — would get an opportunity to play.



Jones earned plenty of praise for his work ethic in year one, but he was evidently frustrated and threw some tantrums as things didn’t go his way last season. To be fair, he wasn’t put in a position to succeed with Matt Patricia calling the plays.



The Patriots brought back Bill O’Brien hoping to get better offensively next season, so it’ll be up to Jones to improve and show that he can be the guy they thought he’d be at this point in his development.

Just got to continue to do it. It’s a marathon and not a sprint. We know that. He’s obviously had great experience in the NFL and at Alabama, where I was at. So there’s a lot of good stuff that we talk about. Just looking forward to working with him.”

The former New Orleans Saints wideout has been a free agent for a while and has yet to find a new team. If they fail to get D-Hop, Landry could become an alternative target to add weapons for Mac Jones.
