<h2>Will Kawhi Leonard play in the 2024 Paris Olympics?</h2>



According to coach Steve Kerr, Kawhi Leonard will report on July 6th to the start of Team USA training camp toward the 2024 Paris Olympics.







“We’ve been monitoring this all along. We have been in touch with Kawhi and his people, and he’s been working out now the last couple of weeks. So this is, obviously every roster spot is important. I’d leave everything out there as a possibility, based on injuries, based on preparation, whatever it is. But at this point, we fully expect all 12 guys to be ready to go.”

However, the coaching staff is absolutely prepared for any last-minute scenario in which Leonard finally says he is not ready.

So we’re in touch with everybody and we will continue to stay in touch with the whole group as we head into Vegas next week. And you never know how things play out. There’s always a chance for change.”

The Golden State Warriors left a lot to be desired last season, failing to make the playoffs after losing to the Sacramento Kings in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a> Play-In Tournament. That’s why Steve Kerr has plenty of work to do this summer.



But so does the front office, with multiple situations to monitor this offseason. One of them has to do with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/klay-thompson">Klay Thompson</a>‘s future, with the Splash Brother running out of contract on June 30th.



That means the 34-year-old could be leaving the franchise after 11 seasons in the Bay area, but that’s not something Kerr wants to happen. Which is why the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/golden-state-warriors">Warriors</a> coach made it clear how important it is for him that Klay stays.



“We want Klay back desperately, I want him back desperately, and we’ll have our conversations, and he’s gotta make whatever decision he makes,” Kerr said on the Jim Rome Show. “Yeah, we really want him back, he’s Klay Thompson.”

With multiple injuries that made him go under the knife more than once in the las few years, Thompson’s level has been on decline, with his production felling off a cliff last season.

“I think it’s kind of a right of passage for young players, whether it’s the WNBA or the NBA. The other players are going to test you. Actually, Caitlin reminds me a lot of Steph Curry,” Kerr said. “A lot of people may not remember this, but in Steph’s first couple of years, he was not a superstar. He was not who he is now. He had to get stronger, he had to understand people were coming after him. That’s what is happening with Caitlin right now.”

And that’s preventing the University of Iowa product from making an immediate impact in the WNBA.

Initially overlooked by scouts and outplayed by his opponents due to lack of size, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stephen-curry">Curry</a> eventually got stronger to showcase his talent. Now, we’re talking about a 10x NBA All-Star who led the Dubs to four championships while being named MVP twice. Steve Kerr was asked about the short term future of the Golden State Warriors with Klay Thompson as an unrestricted free agent. That’s when the head coach remembered his tenure with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.







“It’s rarely a storybook. Even the 1996 or 1998 Bulls, you know, the team was broken up and we won the championship in our last year but there was a documentary about what a disaster the whole thing was. It’s impossible for this stuff to end perfectly.”

“We need Klay [Thompson] back,” Kerr said after their season-ending loss. “He’s still got good years left. I know I speak for everybody in the organization: we want him back. Obviously, there is business at hand, but what Klay has meant to this franchise, as good as he still is, we desperately want him back.”

The Warriors and Thompson couldn’t reach an agreement on a contract extension, and he’ll be an unrestricted free agent, and there’s already one Eastern Conference team <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba/klay-thompson-to-get-a-ton-of-money-to-leave-the-warriors" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">looking to sign him</a>.



<h2>Kerr Wants Paul To Stay As Well</h2>



The Warriors also need to make a decision regarding Chris Paul’s team option. They could pick it up and trade him or just let him walk. Whatever the case, Kerr would also love to have him back:



“Chris has been fantastic, not only on the court but the leadership. He is one of our best players. I love coaching Chris [Paul]. I really hope we bring him back next year,” Kerr said.

“He was the first one out there trying to talk Draymond off, and handled it the right way. The reason Draymond got kicked out is because as he was walking back to the bench he muttered an expletive that the refs heard and so he deserved it. But that’s not Steph’s fault, that’s Draymond’s fault and Steph was trying to do everything he could to get him [Green] out of there.“

“We’ve got Chris Paul out there,” Kerr said after the loss. “We’ve got Klay (Thompson). We’ve got Draymond (Green). We’ve got great players out there. We can’t expect to just ride Steph game after game after game.”



The coach added that Curry may not be able to withstand the physical burden of playing heavy minutes every night at this point in his career. He’s averaged just shy of 33 minutes a night this season:



“These last few weeks have been really tough on him. We’ve put the burden of this franchise on his shoulders for… 15 years? We can’t expect him to play 35 minutes,” Kerr continued. “We’ve got five games in seven days on this road trip. If you want to say that him playing 30 minutes instead of 32 was the difference between the win and the loss, I totally disagree with that. We’re trying to win the game. We’re trying to keep them fresh, too.”

Rookie SG Brandon Podziemski also talked about their situation. And while he acknowledges that they’re almost a lock to make it to the Play-In Tournament, that wasn’t their goal:



“Yeah, it feels daunting,” Podziemski said. “Just for the fact that you don’t want to be the 10th seed. The 11th seed is, I think, four or five games behind us. So for us to get that low I don’t think is going to happen. But you don’t want to be the 10th seed and have to play two road games before you get into an actual series.”

“I think [Kerr] gets a lot of criticism for, ‘Oh, he’s not playing young guys,’ ” Draymond told The Athletic. “But would JK [Jonathan Kuminga] have been as ready as he is now a year ago? I personally don’t think so. I think we all believed in what JK could become. But you almost do JK a disservice by not giving him credit [for] the work he put in to become the player that he’s become this year.”

Green also pointed out that the coach made the necessary adjustments and gave younger players more minutes when the team needed it, so it was unfair to call him out for that earlier in the season:



“I think Steve has caught a lot of unfair criticism about playing young guys when number one, you haven’t had to or needed to, but as soon as you’ve needed to, you’re doing it. And you’ve made that adjustment, and look at what it’s done for us this season,“ Green continued.

Steve Kerr will become the highest-paid head coach in NBA history. The Golden State Warriors are ready to offer him a two-year, $35 million contract to keep him until the 2025-2026 season.
