On Sunday, it was the turn for Kim Kardashian’s eldest son, Saint, to meet the Argentine star.



The media personality and businesswoman was happy to share a video of her son leading the Herons out for the away game against the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-galaxy">Los Angeles Galaxy</a> at Dignity Health Sports Park holding Messi’s hand.



“Saint walking Messi out on the field tonight at the La Galaxy vs Inter Miami game!!! He is living the absolute dream!,” Kardashian wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

It’s not easy being the commissioner of a major sports league in the United States, too often the man in charge of it all has to take a lot of the weight and also must play down the praise. In the case of Don Garber, maybe no other commissioner in any major sports league in the United States has witnessed the game he governs evolve as much as his time in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mls" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MLS</a>.



Appointed to his position in 1999 as the league was seriously facing being folded, Garber, who was an <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> executive, seemed to take the position more as a favor to his NFL owners, who to the bewilderment of many at the time had teams in MLS, but he quickly got to work. When at times it seemed that soccer and MLS’ back was against the wall the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/us-national-team" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">USMNT</a> would produce a magical run at the 2002 World Cup that kept the league alive, and later David Beckham would sign to give the league a major boost after it fell to obscurity. That boost elevated <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/soccer/mls-biggest-flops-reloaded-20240103-BUS-95726.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MLS</a> to where it is today.



Now, 29 teams deep, and games that have 65,000 fans in attendance, Don Garber provided an outlook of where MLS is at in 2024.



<h2>Don Garber on roster changes</h2>



Speaking to Forbes reporter Favian Renkel in a press conference before the LA Galaxy took on Inter Miami, Garber shed some light on some issues in the league, mainly spending and roster building.

Garber will meet with 12 owners in Miami to talk about changing the roster rules, although he did not elaborate if it was for this or next season. Garber was very firm in stating, “I can name the players that couldn’t join the league due to the roster rules on my hand.”

Garber stressed that Messi has been a huge spark for the league but not the only spark pointing to the other sold-out venues in week 1, “I was in Charlotte yesterday with 65,000 people and Messi was not playing.”



“I think all of you know (Messi) done well, he’s happy. It’s been great for Major League Soccer. It’s great for Inter Miami.”



“I feel this league has had so much momentum and had it last year before Leo was signed. We were on track to have our best year ever, and we did. We launched our Apple partnership, launched Leagues Cup.



“We had so many exciting things coming on. Then Leo comes in and he takes it to another level. So, we’ve all learned that it’s never about any one player, but we should all cherish the great experiences when legends come into your league. “



Don Garber has no question oversaw MLS’ continued growth with great success, although questions have been raised over the formula to generate revenue due to expansion fees, and how the league will look like when there is no more expansion to be had.

Garber has also come under fire for the league’s decision to avoid sending their best to the US Open Cup, and possibly not playing in it all together. Another point of conversion is Leagues Cup and how it breaks the MLS season in two and shifts focus from regional competitions like the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The conversations between the referee’s association and the league have hit a wall and there seems to be no immediate end in sight, as a result MLS has had to find over 60 officials who have some professional experience.



Enter Gabriele Ciampi, an Italian composure and orchestra leader. Ciampi is 48-year-old Italian and has been an official in the lower divisions as a hobby. Ciampi’s true profession is that of a classical musician, in which he has achieved a successful career that in recent years has focused on fusing traditional language with more popular aspects, such as pop.

Federico Redondo has returned to Argentinos Juniors following Olympic qualifying commitments with Argentina’s U-23 squad, Redondo has been a major target of Inter Miami the last two weeks with both Inter Miami and Argentinos agreeing on a transfer fee of $8 million plus percentages.



Despite reports that Inter Miami are not salary cap compliant in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mls" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MLS</a>, the deal has been approved by the league and the issues between Inter Miami and Argentinos on payment method have been resolved.

Following a goalless draw against El Salvador, the team went back to the US for a 1-0 loss to FC Dallas. Then, it flew to Saudi Arabia for a friendly tournament in Riyadh, losing both to Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr. The Herons managed to beat Hong Kong XI in their following friendly, but lost to Vissel Kobe on penalties in Japan before tying with Newell’s in Fort Lauderdale.

Inter Miami’s decision to travel the world was met with criticism, as it seemed to take a toll on their veteran stars. Apart from Messi and Suárez, the club also has high expectations on what Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba bring to the table this year, as this will also be their first full MLS season.

 In the middle of their 1-1 draw with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/newell&apos;s" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Newell’s Old Boys</a>, reports began to surface that Inter Miami had accepted a $2.8 million transfer for Gregore by Brazilian giants Botafogo. 



The 29-year-old defensive midfielder has been with Inter Miami since 2021 and played in 64 games for the club. The transfer is music to Inter Miami’s ears as according to a source via The Athletic, the financial situation of Inter Miami was “dire”.

Gregore is one of the club’s leaders and has worn the captain’s armband as recently as Inter Miami’s preseason tour. The Brazilian was named as the Inter Miami most valuable player of the 2021 season. He also led the number of tackles (55) among all teams of the MLS Regular Season.

A report out of Fox Sports in Argentina journalist Pipi Novello, states that the $8 million transfer of Argentine midfielder Federico Redondo has collapsed.

According to TNT Sports, Argentinos Juniors did not accept the terms of payment that MLS and Inter Miami usually agree upon. MLS regulations do not permit the totality of a transfer to be sent, and the Argentine club was not satisfied with the distribution method. 



The collapse of the deal is a major blow for Inter Miami as they start the season with a lot of questions around their defensive end.

Tata Martino’s side has spent the offseason signing various players and spending <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/soccer/who-is-federico-redondo-inter-miamis-future-midfielder-20240213-BUS-104508.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">high transfer fees</a>, but apparently have not properly budgeted their season, which starts in one week.



 According to The Athletic, a source spoke to Tom Bogert and stated that the club needs to either trade players or get allocation money to accommodate its current roster. 



Inter Miami’s salary cap situation is reported as “dire”, the club was fined by the league in 2021, $2 million for violations of the league’s salary budget and roster regulations. The club also deducted a portion of their allocation money for two seasons.

Gregore is held to high regard by Tata Martino and Robert Taylor was one of the team’s breakout players when Lionel Messi arrived, Taylor could command a good chunk of allocation money in the MLS market.

Yedlin’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/us-national-team" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">USMNT</a> credentials could also be a good bargaining chip, although Inter Miami is poorly structured at the defensive end and losing a World Cup experienced player could hurt the team substantially. 



“They are screwed,” in regard to salary cap room, was the comment Bogert stated his source had told him who was identified as “a high-ranking sporting executive at another club”.
