Legendary <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> coach John Calipari proposed a drastic change to NCAA eligibility rules ahead of the 2025-26 season. The Arkansas Razorbacks coach isn’t a stranger to having young rosters, but Calipari has noted a big difference between his teams and some of his opponents.&nbsp;



The transfer portal has changed the landscape of college basketball, prompting many teams to stop recruiting high school prospects and instead focus on players already on college basketball teams’ rosters.&nbsp;



Calipari doesn’t like the current state of recruiting in the NCAA and wants the competition to regulate it better.

“How about freshmen recruiting? No one’s recruiting freshmen! You know why? Two reasons. Because kids will transfer and they can cherry-pick. There were coaches, this summer, not out one time evaluating freshmen,” Calipari said.



He noted that he had 18 and 19-year-old players on his roster going against 26 and 27-year-old players last season. Calipari said the NCAA should give players five years to stay in college and nothing else.&nbsp;



“You could do five to play five. In other words, we’ll give you one more year. You have five, but there are no waivers. If you’re hurt, you gotta leave in five years. If you’re hurt twice, you got to leave,” he said. “Now, here’s the other way you could do it. The old way. Five years, to play four. You have five years. That means you can transfer, you can transfer again and sit out. You get your five years. You could redshirt and play four. You could play, get hurt, play three. You could do it that way. But it’s still five years.”



This might be a controversial take, but Calipari is sold on it, and given his authority in the industry, the committee should at least give this proposition some thought.

South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team’s coach Dawn Staley raved about a former player’s performances in the 2025 WNBA season. Staley has had the chance to develop some of the biggest stars of the league, including reigning MVP A’Ja Wilson.&nbsp;



One of her most recent stars was Aliyah Boston, who won the national championship in the 2021-22 season, a year before she became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft.



With Caitlin Clark limited to only 13 of the 38 games the Indiana Fever have played this season, Boston has stepped up to help the team remain afloat and with chances to make it to the playoffs.&nbsp;



Boston averages 15.5 points (1.5 more than last season), 8.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in 38 outings this campaign. She has helped Stephanie White’s squad keep their postseason hopes alive, alongside Kelsey Mitchell, while Clark recovers from a hamstring issue.&nbsp;

“She’s (Boston) there, like, she’s in her third season. I mean, she’s a rebounder, she’s a scorer, when she gets the ball. But now she’s added an element of passing, like, it’s like she gets better every single year. And I really don’t think she gets credit for her growth. Now I would say that people are given the most improved… I can understand that. But Aliyah gotta be in the conversation, right? Got to be in the conversation. Aliyah got to be in the conversation, you know, as MVP. But the losing is the problem. Ya’ll losing too many games,” Staley said in a clip shared on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday.



The Fever are one of eight teams fighting for six playoff spots. They have six more games to play before the end of the regular season to define their final position and opponent in the playoffs.

AJ Dybantsa is set to start his collegiate career with the BYU Cougars after committing to the program in December. “He always said, especially after that senior class left, ‘All the talent’s gone. You guys have to be smarter than everybody else,’” Collier recalled. “The next three years, he really worked on our mental IQ and mental toughness.”



Auriemma is one of the greatest coaches in women’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>, and it’s common to hear similar anecdotes from his old players. She coached future legends such as Bird, Diana Taurasi, Stewart, and more recently, Paige Bueckers.&nbsp;

“I interviewed for the Knicks,” Staley said in the episode published Wednesday. “… I thought I did pretty well. I was well-prepared for the interview. If the Knicks would have offered me the job, I would have had to do it. Not just for me, it’s for women, just to break open that.”



While she was very interested in the opportunity, Staley added that her questions about how a potential appointment would change the dynamics with the fans and the media. She said that the front office “changed the energy” after she asked those questions, saying she shot herself in the foot and lost what would have been a historic opportunity.&nbsp;

Mick Cronin has an intriguing group of players on the UCLA roster for the 2025-26 NCAA season. The veteran coach raved about Donovan Dent, a player he thinks can take the team’s offense to new heights.&nbsp;



Dent, a transfer from New Mexico, isn’t the only player who has Cronin dreaming big about the upcoming season. Eric Dailey Jr. has turned a lot of heads within the Bruins, and Cronin has high expectations for the guard’s junior season.



Just like Dent, Cronin believes Dailey can take the team to new heights in the upcoming season. Talking with Jon Rothstein on “Inside<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> College Basketball</a>,” Cronin highlighted Dailey’s potential to make a strong impact on the floor.

He literally had a practice this morning and had 50 points where he never missed a shot.”

The Bruins have renewed hopes for 2025-26, and Cronin is already warning opponents about what’s coming.&nbsp;He feels quite confident about his team’s chances.

After a remarkable high school career, Carmelo Anthony’s son, Kiyan Anthony, is set to start his collegiate journey with the Syracuse Orange, the same program his father represented and led to the 2003 national <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> championship.



Anthony has made noise for a minute. His performances at Long Island Lutheran High School (New York) turned a lot of heads and made top schools such as Ohio State, USC, Auburn, and Florida State, among others, show interest in the shooting guard.&nbsp;



The No. 36 player on ESPN’s 100 list committed to Syracuse to continue to build on his father’s legacy. While he prepares for his freshman season, Kiyan continues to make moves off the court, as he recently added another notable company to his list of NIL deals.

This is another major addition to Anthony’s NIL deals, which also include One Way Clothing, PSD Underwear, Nerf, and the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation. According to On3, his deals are valued at around $1.1 million.&nbsp;



Anthony is one of the best 40 players of his class, and the next step in his journey could take his game to the next level. He still has a lot of room for improvement, but the kid is on the right track to make it to the NBA.

Mick Cronin is convinced he has found a hidden gem that would put his Big Ten rivals in complex positions. The UCLA coach will embark in his sixth season with the Bruins after a second-round loss in the 2025 NCAA tournament.&nbsp;



Coming off a 23-11 (13-7 in conference) record, the Bruins are eager to make a deeper run in the national tournament and challenge other top programs such as Duke, UConn, and the defending champions, Florida.&nbsp;



Cronin’s Bruins welcomed guard Donovan Dent from New Mexico in the offseason, which has the 54-year-old over the moon ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

“Donovan Dent is without question the most dynamic I’ve coached,” Cronin said. “Tiger [Campbell] was the ultimate winner, and I’ve had some really good point guards over the years, but Donnie can take it to another level. In practice, there are times he plays at a speed no one else can match. He’s also an underrated shooter.”



He praised the coaches who worked with Dent before, lauding his growth prior to joining the Bruins.



“He’s a problem for opponents,” Cronin warned. “When you play UCLA, the first challenge is figuring out how to stop Donovan from breaking your defense down every possession. Having a guard like him is like having a great quarterback in football, he can create plays on his own, and you don’t have to draw up every basket.”&nbsp;



Cronin took the Bruins to the NCAA tournament’s Final Four in 2021 for the first and only time. Perhaps Dent is the key to emulating that performance and getting over the hump.
