<p>The <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-orleans-saints" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New Orleans Saints</a></strong> are in a unique situation when it comes to their QB1. <strong>Derek Carr</strong> was clearly the choice until he decided to retire from the <strong>NFL </strong>this offseason. This left a team with little to no cap space in a dire situation. Now, they have three young, unproven QBs fighting for the starting spot.</p>



<p>One of them, <strong>Jake Haener</strong>, stirred the pot when speaking to Saints’ reporter Matthew Paras about the Saints needing a veteran QB. “<strong><em>I mean, what are you going to get from that?</em></strong>” Haener stated. He alluded that the team’s staff is full of former QBs and that’s enough for the young guys to learn. </p>



<p>“<em>Those guys [on staff] are veterans, man. They’ve done it. <strong>They’ve been through it</strong>“.</em> Haener also added that the QB room has “<em>everything you need in terms of what to look for, what to ask, what to see. They’ve seen it all.</em>“</p>



<p>Haener is competing with second-year <strong>QB Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough</strong>. According to the interview, he said that having former QBs like Kellen Moore (now the Saints’ HC), Doug Nussmeier, Scott Tolzien, and Scott Linehan is great. It allows the young QBs to have different perspectives and <strong>bring new ways to evolve</strong>.</p>

<h2>A not-so fierce competition to be the Saints’ starting QB</h2>



<p><strong>It’s not an understatement to say that the Saints might have the worst QB room in the entire <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> right now</strong>. After all, they mismanaged their cap space in recent years and suffered big retirements. First, future Hall-of-Famer <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/drew-brees" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Drew Brees</a> retired in 2020 after more than 15 years of service. </p>

<p>Then, <strong>they tried an awful mix</strong> of Jameis Winston, Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill in 2021. Somehow, Sean Payton managed to coach the team into a 9-8 record. But then Payton also retired (for a year). In 2022, it was the ‘Red Rifle’ Andy Dalton who emerged as the signal-caller. A year later, the Saints signed <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/derek-carr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Derek Carr</a>, an established veteran QB to take the mantle. <strong>Injuries didn’t respect him</strong>, hence his early retirement.</p>



<p>So now that leaves the Saints with Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough. Between Rattler and Haener, they have <strong>a combined record of 0-7 in the NFL</strong>. None of them boast a decent completion percentage, as Rattler’s is 57% and Haener’s is an abysmal 46.2%. <strong>The two of them combined for 5 TDs and 6 INTs</strong>. And as for Shough, well, he was taken in the second round of this year’s draft, but wasn’t a top prospect at all.</p>



<p>Saints reporter Luke Johnson stated that Shough “<em><strong>can absolutely spin it</strong></em>“. It’s been reported that <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/super-bowl-champion-with-saints-drew-brees-makes-something-clear-about-tyler-shough-and-the-qb-battle" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Shough has impressed</a> more than his colleagues. The doubt is whether his offseason impressions can translate to full-gear competition.</p>

Frank Ragnow left a big hole in the mission of protecting <strong>Jared Goff</strong>. Now, Mike Garofolo from NFL media reports that they will add <strong>NFL </strong>veteran <strong>Trystan Colon</strong> on a one-year deal. Colon was part of a great offensive line back in the day with the <strong>Baltimore Ravens</strong>. If he could protect a mobile <strong>Lamar Jackson</strong>, he should be important for the Lions, as Goff is more of a pocket passer.</p>



<p><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dan-campbell" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dan Campbell</a>, the Lions head coach, <strong>has set a culture of hard work</strong>. Much of that is seen in the O-Line. They are an elite crew that can both pass block and run block to the highest of levels. With that in mind, a versatile player like Colon, <strong>who has played as a guard and a center,</strong> can be very helpful.</p>



<p>However, <strong>Colon can’t just assume he will have snaps</strong>. He was signed to the 90-man offseason roster. This means he will have to compete with Graham Glasgow, second-round pick Tate Ratledge, and fifth-round rookie Miles Frazier. It’s not a “gimme” of any sorts. Having said so, <strong>his versatility could be useful for an offense as explosive as the Lions’</strong>.</p>



<h2>Colon joins a top-tier franchise</h2>



<p>By joining the Lions,<strong> Colon add another starring franchise to his resume</strong>. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2020. The Missouri alumn spent his first three years protecting <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/lamar-jackson" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lamar Jackson</a>. He was then signed by the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/arizona-cardinals" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arizona Cardinals</a>. Colon played two years there trying to shield another mobile QB in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kyler-murray" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kyler Murray</a>.</p>

<p>The Lions were an atrocious franchise. When Detroit signed Dan Cambpell as head coach, it all changed. Campbell wasn’t a tactical genius or a deep thinker, he is<strong> courageous and creative</strong>. That made the Lions go <strong>from a bottom-of-the-barrel team to one of the best in the NFL </strong>in no time. Colon has dealt with high expectations before from his time in Baltimore. It’s expected that he knows how to deal with the Lions’ expectations. <strong>It’s Super Bowl or bust</strong>.</p>

<p>However, even if the expectations are high, there is a big difference this time. The task of protecting a pocket passer like <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/jared-goff" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Goff</a> and dual-threat QBs like Jackson and Murray are infinitely different. There’s also a new guard in the offense. <strong>Detroit will have a new offensive coordinator </strong>as John Morton replaces Ben Johnson.</p>



<p>Not only that, but he is in task of replacing a big-time name like <strong>Frank Ragnow. </strong>Ragnow was a <strong>stellar center for the Lions for seven years</strong>. He retired at 28 years old and left Detroit looking for a replacement. The now-former Lion had four Pro-Bowl season and was <strong>regarded as a top 5 center in the league</strong>.</p>



<p>Johnson left to become the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chicago-bears" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chicago Bears</a>‘ HC, and he was the mastermind behind the Lions’ amazing offense in the last few years. He used to put much emphasis in the run-game as well as play-action. Will Morton have the same ideas? We don’t know yet, but Colon will have to adapt.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/trevon-diggs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trevon Diggs</a> </strong>is one of the most prominent names on the <strong>Dallas Cowboys</strong> roster. However, dealing with a left knee injury has put a big question mark on his 2025 <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> </strong>season. The former <strong>NFL All-Pro </strong>has seen a slump in his production in recent years. Now, <strong>his bank account might look at a decline as well</strong>, a <strong>$500,000 decline</strong> to be exact.</p>



<p>According to Todd Archer of <em>ESPN</em>, Diggs <strong>decided to rehab his knee injury in Miami</strong>. This has caused a somewhat stressful scenario for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-cowboys" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cowboys</a>. Dallas wants Diggs to rehab in its facilities. <em>Pro Football Talk</em> notes that <strong>Diggs’ contract states that he has to take part in at least 84.375% of the offseason program</strong>. Otherwise, he faces a $500,000 financial penalty clause.</p>



<p>Cowboys’ Executive Vice President, Stephen Jones, has stated that he expects Diggs to be back. <strong>The team’s mandatory minicamp is next week</strong>. If Diggs doesn’t show up, he <strong>would be subject to fines</strong> for missing the three-day sessions. These clauses are common practice in all of Dallas’ big contracts. <h2>Unprecedented scenes in the Lone Star</h2>



<p>If Diggs’ de-escalator claused is enforced, <strong>he would become the first player to lose money from it</strong>. The CB, who has seen a steep decline in his in-field production, has been dealing with <strong>major knee injuries for a while now</strong>. He tore his ACL in a Week 3 practice in 2023. He also faced a chondral bone graft surgery on January 23. This surgery requires <strong>transplanting pieces of bone tissue into the joint to stimulate growth</strong>.</p>

<p>On the other hand, Dallas Cowboys’ head coach, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brian-schottenheimer" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brian Schottenheimer</a> <strong>is optimistic</strong>. He stated that Diggs’ rehab is “<em>going good</em>” and that “<em>all signs are positive</em>“. However, he also said that there is “<em>no timeline for the return</em>” to football action.</p>

<p>Trevon Diggs has a $9m base salary, and if the de-escalator is enforced, <strong>this would turn into an $8.5m base salary</strong>. Since being an All-Pro in 2021, where he had <strong>11 interceptions and 2 pick-six</strong>, Diggs hasn’t been the same. In the following three seasons, <strong>he’s played 30 out of 51 possible games</strong> and only racked up 6 INTs. He also allowed 6 TDs, 1,102 yds and a 61.1% of passes completed when he’s targeted by opposing QBs.</p>

<p>Selected with the <strong>4th overall pick</strong>, Campbell is poised to be a <strong>massive upgrade in New England’s offensive line</strong>. This also means he will make quite a few bucks in the process. Cambpell will get <strong>$43.66m fully guaranteed with a $28.39m signing bonus</strong>, according to Ian Rapoport’s report.</p>



<p>The domino effect doesn’t end there. At the time of writing, <strong>the only rookie selected in the top 10 that hasn’t signed his contract</strong> is none other than the notorious WR/CB, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/travis-hunter" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Travis Hunter</a> of the Jacksonville Jaguars.</p>



<h2>Why hasn’t Travis Hunter signed yet?</h2>



<p>Being the 2nd overall pick, Travis Hunter is due to make big-time money in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a>. The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) determined that Hunter’s rookie contract should have <strong>4 years and $46.65m</strong> guaranteed and the standard fifth-year option.</p>

<p>However, it seems that Hunter’s ‘unicorn’ status as a dual-position player will also bring ‘unicorn’ stipulations to his contract. The CBA has bonuses called Performance-Based Pay (PBP). That should put Hunter in line to lead the NFL in snaps played. <h2>Is Travis Hunter’s future in jeopardy?</h2>



<p><strong>No, not at all</strong>. As you might have seen (unless you’ve been living under a rock), Hunter is having the time of his life in OTAs. He is dancing, joking and balling throughout the Jaguars’ facility every single day. It’s just a matter of ultimating some details. In the end, having every part of his contract adjusted to a two-way player like him is not easy.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cj-stroud">C.J. Stroud</a> </strong>is the most important player on the <strong>Houston Texans</strong>‘ roster. That’s why it was a worrisome sign when the QB1 started OTAs without throwing the football. Amid the alarms, head coach <strong>DeMeco Ryans</strong> had to update the <strong>NFL </strong>star’s situation regarding his shoulder.</p>



<p>Ryans opened up his Tuesday press conference with a calm demeanor, stating “<em><strong>there’s no concerns with C.J.</strong>, it’s just general soreness</em>“. The third-year HC also said Stroud will be “<strong><em>good to go</em></strong>” and that he has no worries about his availability. </p>



<p>This allows the fans and media to believe that Stroud won’t be facing any difficulties to start the season. However, follow-up questions regarding the shoulder of their QB1 where met with few words from Ryans.</p>



<p>“<strong><em>When he’s ready to go, he’ll be ready to go</em></strong>” were pretty much the answers for every question regarding the matter. <strong>No timeline was given by Ryans</strong> when asked about Stroud’s throwing the football again. While this might seem cryptic, it’s also an indicative that neither <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/demeco-ryans" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ryans</a> nor the team think it’s a serious injury.</p>

<h2>Stroud is looking for a bounceback season</h2>



<p>While he lit the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> in his rookie season, <strong>the sophomore slump hit Stroud</strong>. The Houston Texans QB had a stellar first year in the big leagues, racking up Pro-Bowl numbers. He threw for 4,108 yds and 23 TDs to only 5 INTs.</p>



<p>Those numbers <strong>all fell a bit in his second season</strong>. His total passing yards were 3,727, a significant drop when you take into account that he played two more games. He tallied 20 TD passes and 12 picks. </p>



<p>Still, <strong>the Texans feel like Stroud is their present and future</strong>. His talent is unquestioned and the fans have his back. After all, he still won the AFC South in comfortable fashion. That’s why the news of him not throwing during his routine sessions sent alarming thoughts throughout Houston.</p>
