“Bill Belichick never asked for, in our discussion, full control of the personnel or the building or anything of that nature. I do want to make it 1000% clear, want to go to 2000% or 100 000%. Whatever percent you want to use.”

“I’m not one to hire (coaches),” Brady said on his ‘Let’s Go’ podcast, via NFL.com. “I don’t know the criteria for hiring these guys, for hiring coaches. I’ve never been a part of it. I mean, I’m surprised that the greatest coach ever doesn’t have a job, absolutely. But I’m surprised (by) a lot of things in the NFL.”



Brady spent most of his career under Belichick, with whom he formed one of, if not the best quarterback-coach duo in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> history. Together, they were the faces of the Patriots dynasty that won six <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">Super Bowls</a> in two decades.

“When I was a free agent, there (were) a lot of teams that didn’t want me,” Brady said. “… There (are) a lot of things that happen that, for one reason or another, don’t go exactly the way you think they should go.”

Brady immediately settled in at the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tampa-bay-buccaneers">Tampa Bay Buccaneers</a>, leading the team to Super Bowl victory in his very first season away from New England. The Patriots, on the other hand, failed to make the playoffs that year. And it only went worse.



Though the organization seemed to be getting back on its feet in 2021, when rookie quarterback <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mac-jones">Mac Jones</a> gave reasons for optimism by leading the team to its first postseason appearance since Brady left, it didn’t take long for everything to fall apart.



<h3>Belichick fails to succeed without Brady</h3>



Jones and the Patriots’ offense took many steps back in 2022, as the franchise finished the season with a losing record to fall short from a playoff berth again. The worst was yet to come, as 2023 proved to be such a terrible year that it ended with Belichick’s time at Gillette Stadium.

The Patriots finished bottom of the AFC East at 4-13, the worst record in the Belichick era, and the coach paid the price for it. While Brady continued to find success in Tampa Bay by making the playoffs in all three seasons with the team, the best Belichick could do without him was a Wild Card appearance in four years.

“I’ve played with the two best quarterbacks to ever play this game, especially when it comes to arm talent,” Valdes-Scantling said, via Pro Football Talk. “Obviously Brady has all the statistics, but I think Pat’s getting pretty close to breaking some of those.“

“But when it comes to arm talent, between Aaron and Pat, they’re equal, so having those two guys being my quarterbacks for my career has been nothing but life-changing,” the Chiefs wideout added. “I’m grateful for both those guys, I’ve got great friendships with both those guys. I hope I can finish my career with Pat.”

<h2>Valdes-Scantling struggles to impress with Mahomes </h2>



It’s safe to say Valdes-Scantling will need to make an impression in Super Bowl LVIII to prove the Chiefs he can still be a reliable weapon for Mahomes moving forward.



This year, the wideout only caught 21 passes for 315 yards and just one touchdown. His stats weren’t that impressive in 2022, but his 42 catches for 687 yards and 2 touchdowns were still better than his numbers in 2023, a year in which the Chiefs’ offense looked at their worst in a long time.



Kansas City managed to overcome its offensive struggles in the postseason, with Mahomes finding a way to make the Super Bowl regardless. Valdes-Scantling did contribute with a crucial catch in crunch time in the AFC Championship Game against the Ravens, but his desire to finish his career with Mahomes may depend on if the Chiefs consider he can be helpful in more situations.

Mahomes, however, believes it’s still too soon to make this kind of question.


 

 


“I mean, I’m not even close to halfway, so I haven’t put a lot of thought into it,“ Mahomes said Monday, via the NFL.com. “I mean, your goal is to be the best player that you can be. I know I’m blessed to be around a lot of great players around me. And so, right now, it’s doing whatever I can to beat a great 49ers team and try to get that third ring. And then if you ask me that question in 15 years, and I’ll see if I can get close to seven. But seven seems like a long ways away still.”



At 28, Mahomes is about to play in his fourth Super Bowl, having emerged victorious in two of his three previous appearances. His most recent success was last year, when he led the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kansas-city-chiefs">Chiefs</a> to a hard-fought win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.



Brady already had three rings at Mahomes’ age, having won his third championship with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-england-patriots">New England Patriots</a> at 27 years and 187 days old. There was a 10-year gap between his third and fourth ring, but Brady played for so long that he had enough time to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy more times than any other player in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> history.

<h2>Mahomes would like to play for a long time like Brady did</h2>



Not only did Mahomes show respect for Brady by praising his seven Super Bowl victories, but he also admitted he would like to play for as much as he can just like Tom did, with the Patriots and Buccaneers legend pushing his retirement to age 45.

“That’s the goal, you want to play as long as they’ll let you play,” Mahomes said. “It takes a lot of work outside of the building. It takes taking care of your body, it takes eating healthy and try to get rid of the dad bod that I got. But try to do whatever you can just to get healthy and go out there and be the best player that you can be. My hope is to take it year in and year out, but I want to play as long as they’ll let me play. Fifteen years seems like long, but Brady did it and some other guys have done it so, I’m going to strive to see if I can do it as well.”



Brady extended his career so much that he ended up having three Hall of Fame careers, finishing his fantastic ride as an NFL quarterback with four Super Bowl wins late in his career. After winning his last three championships in New England at the age of 37, 39, and 41, respectively, Brady went on to win one last Super Bowl with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tampa-bay-buccaneers">Tampa Bay Buccaneers</a> at 43 years and 188 days old.



<h2>Mahomes remembers his only Super Bowl loss to date at the hands of Brady</h2>



That historic victory at Super Bowl LV saw Brady become the oldest player to ever win a Super Bowl. Curiously, it came against Kansas City, in what has been Mahomes’ only Super Bowl loss so far. “I’ve lost the Super Bowl and I know how bad that hurts, and you want to make sure you stay away from that feeling,” Mahomes said. “So, I think even more than hoisting that trophy is when you lose and you’re in that locker room and you feel like you’re that close and you didn’t get it that feeling is — I’m almost more addicted to staying away from that feeling than I am hoisting the trophy.“

“I can definitely sense it,” Mahomes said. “I never felt like that because I’ve never been like that in my entire life. But it’s become a little bit funny. I don’t want to say you enjoy it. But as long as you keep winning, teams start to not like you, and I want to keep winning. So if that means some of the other teams and other fan bases aren’t going to like me, I’ll try to still have a smile on my face and not be a bad example, but I can be that villain for them if they need me to be.”

Of course, others went even further by claiming New England was favored by the officials.

Brock Purdy raised many eyebrows in January by revealing the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/san-francisco-49ers">San Francisco 49ers</a> planned to sign <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tom-brady">Tom Brady</a> in 2023. In an interview with ESPN, the second-year quarterback said <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kyle-shanahan">Kyle Shanahan</a> let him know about the team seriously considering benching him only for the 7x Super Bowl champion.



“I remember him saying, if we can get Tom Brady, we’re going to try to get him,” Purdy said. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, he’s the GOAT. I get it.’ But something deep down inside me was sort of like, ‘Dude, I just showed you that I can play well in this system. And we were one game away from the Super Bowl.’ … More than anything, I was like, ‘OK, now let’s go.&apos;”

While many believe the Niners admitting being interested in Brady shows a lack of confidence in Purdy, Shanahan believes it may be the other way around.

Brady ultimately retired for good, as he signed a multi-year agreement to call NFL games for Fox starting in 2024. The 32-year-old made the Pro Bowl in 2021, when he helped the Bucs win Super Bowl LV with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tom-brady">Tom Brady</a> under center.



“With any chapter in the book of life, there is always an ending,” Jensen wrote. “The NFL chapter of my life is coming to a close. As this chapter closes and I reflect on every aspect of my career, it makes me proud. In the hard times and good, there is always something special to learn. Retiring from the game you have loved from a very young age is always hard. I am excited for this next chapter and the new opportunities and challenges it will bring. Thank you to the Ravens and the Buccaneers for taking a chance on a small town Colorado kid and to the Krewe for always raising the flags.”



Jensen, who battled with serious injuries in the last two years, is stepping away from the gridiron with 100 career games under his belt — in addition to seven playoff appearances. Selected in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/baltimore-ravens">Ravens</a>, he spent five seasons in Baltimore before landing a record-breaking contract with the Bucs.

In 2018, the Buccaneers made Jensen the then highest-paid center in the league by handing him a four-year, $42 million deal. He went on to play a key role in the team’s return to glory in the 2020 season, but injuries eventually stood in his way.

Jensen’s career took a turn in the 2022 preseason, when a knee injury ruled him out for most of the campaign. The center made it on time for the Wild Card loss to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-cowboys">Cowboys</a>, but that turned out to be his final game as another setback on his knee prevented him from playing in 2023.

Greg Auman of FOX Sports notes that, since Jensen reworked his contract with the Bucs in each of the last two seasons, he’ll carry $16.6 million in dead money against the cap in 2024.



However, the Bucs could find a way to have more flexibility by splitting out this money. “If they can count his release as post-June 1, it would be split to $4.8 million in 2024 and $11.8 million in 2025,” Auman wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The 65-year-old, who won two rings as a head coach in Kansas City and another one as an assistant coach in Green Bay, doesn’t need to be told how to win championships. However, it’s safe to say he would be open to getting advice on how to win back-to-back titles.



Brady has done that with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-england-patriots">New England Patriots</a> in 2004 and 2005, which is why host Jim Gray brought the topic to the table during the podcast. Unsurprisingly, the retired quarterback stressed how difficult it is to do what the Chiefs are trying to accomplish this year.



“It’s hard to win one Super Bowl. So to win two of them and back-to-back years, I mean…it’s very, very difficult,” Brady said, via ClutchPoints. “I think the teams that I was on that were able to do great things year after year, it was the character of the players, the coaches, and the system that we had that brought the best out of everybody in the biggest moments. And, you know, we always try to put a lot of pressure on our players all the time to succeed, whether it was an O. T. A. Practice, where there was a training camp practice, whether it was a joint practice, a preseason game, the pressure was always on. I had 20 years of big days, you know, because everyone was important. And that’s how we saw it.”

Reid is at the helm of an emerging dynasty at Arrowhead, with the Chiefs set to make their fourth Super Bowl appearance in the last five years while making the AFC Championship Game in the last six years. His team has already won two rings, but a repeat is yet an unfinished task.

Brady’s success with the Bucs further cemented his status as the greatest of all times, though Patrick Mahomes is now starting to put himself in a position to challenge that status. <h2>Tom Brady’s Father Rips Bill Belichick’s Interpersonal Skills</h2>



“Bill is tough,” Brady Sr. said. “He runs a military system. It’s a different generation. Bill is a great, great, great coach. But his interpersonal skills are horrible. That’s the bottom line. How many times has he said — back in ’15 or ’16 — that he wanted to win without Tommy? When he went without Tommy, he didn’t know what he was losing. You’re losing more than just a quarterback. Ego sometimes gets in the way of things. I think it did with Bill. Now, he’s in a situation where he’s gotten crucified for the last few years by everybody and a lot of luster has come off his rose.”



Belichick infamously wanted to trade Brady multiple times. Brady resented him and felt disrespected, and he went on to win another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.



The Patriots, on the other hand, became a bottom-feeding team and haven’t even won a playoff game since he left. Now, no one seems to be even slightly interested in giving Belichick the keys to their team.



<h2>Kraft Apologized For His Mistake</h2>



Belichick was the one who convinced Robert Kraft that Brady was done, which was a breaking point in their relationship that eventually led to his dismissal. At least the team owner reached out to the Bradys with a mea culpa:

“He just said, ‘I made a mistake.’ He told us that back in September,” said Brady Sr. “We don’t all make the right decisions, but he’s made a hell of a lot of good ones over the years. But I know that it galls him that Tommy went elsewhere and won. Not that he won, but that he won after Bill said he was done.”

At the end of the day, no one can take anything away from Bill Belichick and all the things he accomplished in this league. But given his reputation of mistreatment of players and his determination to call all the shots, it’s not much of a surprise to see so many doors closing right before his eyes.
