According to NFL journalist Tom Pelissero via his X (formerly Twitter) account, “The #Panthers are benching former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young and starting veteran Andy Dalton beginning this week.”

“There was one that Bryce could have seen, and he could have flipped the protection. He’s been fantastic doing that. That’s the only one I would say that he could have really fixed the problem. [The Saints] gave us issues with what they did. We need to do better than that. That’s coaching.”

During an insightful press conference following the Panthers’ decisive 47-10 loss to the Saints, Coach Canales absolved Young of the blame and took responsibility for making decisions that didn’t benefit the team.



“For me, I take it personal any time that I feel like I’m putting our players at a disadvantage where they don’t have simple solutions,” Canales said.

<h2>Head Coach Canales shared his thoughts on Young’s footwork during the game</h2>



One of the key points the coach emphasized was the quarterback’s footwork, an area where Canales was confident he could make the necessary improvements to make big results.



“As we went through the grades, looking at his footwork and the discipline of it, it was there,” Canales said. “I think he missed a couple of throws. I think that he’s learning some of his guys, and we’ve gotten all these reps and we’ve got to keep accumulating those reps. But what I saw from him was just kind of missing a few of his opportunities that he had there, and I also have to give the Saints credit for covering us really well and they made it hard and it forced accurate throws and that’s something that we have to make sure we cash in on when we have those opportunities.”

Carolina needed a quarterback, and the NFC South team didn’t want to risk losing Bryce Young to another team.



However, trading up didn’t pay off for the Panthers. Young struggled throughout the entire campaign to prove he was worthy of being selected with the 1st overall pick, and the club is growing desperate with him.

Bryce Young’s rookie season with the Panthers fell short of the team’s expectations. Among the quarterbacks selected in the 1st round, he performed the worst, leaving the club understandably uncomfortable with the outcome.

Sacrificing so much for a player who went 2-14 in his rookie season, with 2,877 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, is far from what the Panthers wanted. Consequently, the club is preparing a massive change with Young, aiming not to place the entire offensive burden on him.



Rookie head coach Dave Canales addressed Bryce Young’s struggles, stating that the quarterback needs more support from other players. He revealed that the team’s offense will rely more on the ground attack this year.

“That’s what this draft and this offseason was all about,” Canales said on The Season with Peter Schrager. “I feel confident that we’ll be able to have a successful run game, which, for me, opens everything else up. It helps third down, it helps move the ball and give you more opportunities.”



This offseason, the Panthers focused on bolstering their ground attack. The NFC South club drafted Jonathon Brooks in the second round and signed guards Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis. Miles Sanders and Chuba Hubbard will be the primary running backs for the team, with Brooks providing support.

“I met with coach Reich this morning and informed him that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers. I want to thank Frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well.”



After the move, Special Teams coordinator Chris Tabor will be the interim coach and Jim Caldwell will be a special advisor to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, who will take over play calling duties. 



The franchise had high hopes after drafting <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/bryce-young">Bryce Young</a> with the No.1 overall pick in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl-draft">2023 NFL Draft</a>, but, the quarterbacks’s development has been terrible during his rookie season. <h2>Frank Reich has been fired by the Panthers</h2>



Frank Reich&nbsp;became the head coach of the Carolina Panthers on January 26, 2023, after a very solid tenure with the Indianapolis Colts (2018-2022). He was supposed to be the mentor of Bryce Young as a great offensive mind.


 

 


However, according to many reports, Reich wasn’t convinced Young was the best option for the No.1 overall pick considering there were other names such as CJ Stroud and Anthony Richardson.

At least for the rest of the 2023 season, Chris Tabor will be the head coach. Nevertheless, a big name should arrive to Carolina if they want to develop an amazing talent such as Bryce Young.
