It’s fair to be somewhat skeptical about the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-cowboys" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dallas Cowboys</a>. After years of disappointing endings to promising seasons, it’s hard for the media, their rivals, and even the fans to convince themselves that this might as well be their year.



Then again, Mike McCarthy’s team has steamrolled past the opposition more often than not this season, sitting on an 8-3 record and almost taking down the league-leading <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/philadelphia-eagles" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Philadelphia Eagles.</a>



Ironically, a lot of that has had to do with<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dak-prescott" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Dak Prescott,</a> who entered the season under a lot of pressure and was deemed one of the team’s weakest links. He’s responded by having arguably the best season of his career, turning back the clock, making plays with his feet and putting up MVP-caliber numbers.



Prescott vowed to take better care of the football, and he’s delivered. His connection with CeeDee Lamb ranks among the best in the league, and his confidence is clearly back. When asked about that, he credited his soon-to-be-born baby girl.

<h2>Prescott Credits ‘Dad Strength’ For Impressive Play</h2>



“It’s the dad strength,” Prescott said, “that’s why I’m playing that way.”



All jokes aside, Dak has been on a tear this season. He’s completing 70.0% of his passes and has thrown for 2,935 yards with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions, leading the Cowboys to a 5-1 record over the past six weeks. Those numbers have been enough to make him the fourth-leading MVP candidate this season at +800. Even so, he’s not too focused on that right now:



“It means I’m playing well,” Prescott said. “Simple as that. Not really (that important). I’m about one goal and it’s a big team goal and I know if my name’s in there that means we’re playing well, so that’s great. But at the end of the day we’re just trying to build. I mean being eight years into this thing, it’s about building and building and making sure we’re getting better and better each and every week and getting hot right when we need to be.”



<h2>Cowboys Need To Prove Themselves</h2>



Even so, it’s worth noting that two of the Cowboys’ three losses have come against NFC elite. They couldn’t compete with the San Francisco 49ers, and they almost took down the Philadelphia Eagles, but fell short in the end.

However, that’s nothing that worries Dak or the Cowboys. They believe all teams always want to beat the Cowboys regardless of their record, which is why they need to stay ready and locked in for when it matters the most:



“The teams we’ve played, the records haven’t been great,” Prescott admitted. “But I can promise you everybody that we play, we do get their best shot. Not to say that I think everybody else does that, but when you play the Dallas Cowboys, I can promise you the other teams, it’s a little bit bigger than some of the games that they play, that comes from people around the league. They always talk about it. Free agents that come in, they mention it. So we’re getting people’s best shots,” Dak explained.“Now, as we move forward with teams with better records, we’re still going to get their best shots.”

Through 12 weeks, the Cowboys are 1st in scoring offense (31.5 PPG), 2nd in third-down completion percentage (47.7%), 5th in total yards (392.5), 2nd in total yards allowed (297.8), 4th in points allowed (16.8 PPG), and 2nd in third-down completion percentage allowed (34.3), so perhaps it’s time people start taking them more seriously.

<h2>Dallas Cowboys are still in the mix for the NFC East</h2>



In the standout game of Week 12, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Buffalo Bills (37-34), achieving an impressive record of 10-1. Thanks to this result, Nick Sirianni and his players had a two-game lead over the Dallas Cowboys.


 

 


Furthermore, the Eagles hold the tiebreaker over the Cowboys as they won their first meeting in Week 9. If that wasn’t enough, Philadelphia have a 6-0 record against NFC opponents, while Dallas now stand at 7-3 in such matchups.

That implies that, if Jalen Hurts avoids a massive downfall, the Cowboys (9-3) will have to play the wild card round as visitors against the NFC South champion. There’s still a long way to go in the 2023 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> season, but with half of the campaign already behind us, fans already start to make predictions. The biggest question is which teams <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-the-five-teams-with-the-most-chances-of-winning-the-super-bowl-lviii-20231110-BUS-84093.html">will make the Super Bowl</a>, but the individual awards are also an intriguing topic in the league.



While it may be too soon to tell who will win MVP, we already have an idea about those who could be in the conversation. The likes of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/patrick-mahomes">Patrick Mahomes</a> and Jalen Hurts are obviously in the mix, though there could be other candidates as well.



Miami Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey are making a case to be in consideration too. But since the Offensive Player of the Year also exists, the MVP award is often reduced to quarterbacks.



That’s why we’re going to take a look at three dark-horse candidates only considering signal-callers. Given that QBs are more likely to win the MVP than other players, we’ll mention those who may run from behind the bookmakers’ favorites.

<h2>3. Jared Goff</h2>



Jared Goff is the face of a potentially historic season for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/detroit-lions">Lions</a>. The 2016 first-overall pick had to rebuild his reputation after being traded by the Rams in 2021, but Detroit proved to be the perfect place for him to get his career back on track.

Goff ranks fifth in passing yards this season (2,507), while he also threw for 14 touchdowns and just five interceptions. His team is currently atop the NFC North with a 7-2 record, having a serious chance to win its first division title since 1993.



On paper, the Lions are favorites to win most of the remaining games in their schedule. That could give Goff the opportunity to continue making a case for himself. But only time will tell us if he ultimately makes the MVP conversation.



<h2>2. CJ Stroud</h2>



We’re running out of words to describe <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cj-stroud">CJ Stroud</a>‘s first year in the NFL. The rookie quarterback has quickly changed the Houston Texans‘ fortunes, and sometimes it’s hard to tell that he was playing in college only a year ago.

The second-overall pick in the 2023 Draft already has more passing yards (2,626) than most quarterbacks in the league, as only Sam Howell ranks above him. But Stroud does lead the league in average yards per game (291.8).



On top of that, his two interceptions are the lowest among quarterbacks who started at least eight games. Rookies often don’t make the MVP conversation as we already have the Rookie of the Year award, but if Stroud continues to take the Texans to new heights, he may be the exception.



<h2>1. Dak Prescott</h2>



Some may argue that <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dak-prescott">Dak Prescott</a> wouldn’t be a dark-horse candidate, and that’s fair. But the truth is that his name hasn’t been mentioned that much, which is why it’s safe to say his MVP candidacy is being quite overlooked.

His story is quite interesting, having won Offensive Rookie of the Year after being selected in the fourth round by the Cowboys in 2016. But Prescott hasn’t lacked in doubters in the following years, as he has yet to take Dallas to a deep playoff run.



The 30-year-old, however, has been on fire recently. With 2,415 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, Prescott ranks third in QBR (72.6). His MVP chances may depend on whether the Cowboys overtake the Eagles in the NFC East, though. It doesn’t look easy, but we’ll see when it’s all said and done.

“The sky’s the limit for me. I know I’m 31, but I’m still fast, I’m still big and I still want to play football. I haven’t lost anything. It’s more of a prove it point to me. I’ve got a lot of doubters out there. It’s more of me proving to myself that I still got it.”



Bryant has been out of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> for four years after multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. In fact, that is the major concern following his arrival at the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/dallas-cowboys">Dallas Cowboys</a>, although he insists he is fully recovered.



“There have been some really dark places and times. Places that you can’t even imagine. I really would not like to talk about it, but I’ve worked hard to get through those moments.”
