Saleh explained that they hoped to have Wilson learning behind Rodgers, but losing his mentor four plays into the season obviously forced them to change their plans:



“We were hoping to give him that one year to watch Aaron play football, and learn and grow with all the different things that come with the scheme,” Saleh said. “It’s unfortunate, four plays in, what happened, but I think he’s made tremendous improvements from a year ago. I do. It’s just an unfortunate series of events that occurred.”



<h2>Saleh Says Wilson Is ‘A Fighter’</h2>



It doesn’t seem like Wilson will ever get another chance in New York, especially with Rodgers back to full strength. Even so, his coach believes in him and his ability to bounce back from this:



“I thought he had great OTAs, a great training camp,” Saleh said. “I thought he battled. He fought. He’s a fighter, he really is. Obviously, there are things that I know he wishes he could have back. I know there are a lot of things that he improved on. Some things were out of his control, but I’ve said it and I’ll say it again: I think he’s going to have a long career.”

<h2>Jets Have Love For Flacco, But There Are No Regrets</h2>



“I don’t think I ever let myself go there,” Saleh told Newsday. “We love Joe, first and foremost. We spent a couple of years with him, love him, love the way he prepares, really pumped for him and the success he’s having. It’s just the decision we made in terms of the quarterback room and the way we developed it over the course of OTAs and training camp. It was just a decision we made.”



Flacco wasn’t at his best during his three-year stint with the Jets, but he could’ve at least given them a veteran presence and leadership in the locker room. Now, he’s become a fan favorite in Cleveland and is having a movie-like career resurgence:



“I enjoyed my time while I was there, and it is what it is,” Flacco said. “I’m happy to be where I am, that’s for sure. There’s 32 teams in the NFL. They’re just another one. I got a lot of guys over there I really respect and had an awesome few years in that locker room. So a lot of respect for those guys.”



<h2>Football Isn’t That Simple</h2>



Of course, it’s not like Flacco would’ve led the Jets to success right away. They don’t have the same elite offensive line the Browns have, and with his lack of mobility, chances are he would’ve fared as poorly as Wilson did, but that’s something we’ll never know now.

In his weekly appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ Rodgers revealed that he had asked the Jets not to activate him from IR. Aware that a player would need to be cut for him to make it to the 53-man roster, he didn’t want to jeopardize any teammate’s position.



“I assumed I was going to go on IR,” said Rodgers. “I asked to be put on IR, but then there was a conversation, ‘Do you want to practice?’ I said ‘Not at the expense of somebody getting cut. I know how this works.‘

“I didn’t feel like I needed to practice to continue my rehab. I could do on-the-field stuff on the side, but, obviously, I got overruled there. It is what it is. This was an interesting situation.”



Since Rodgers was activated against his will, he decided to reach out to Nick Bawden to clarify the situation. “I called Nick right away,” Rodgers said. “I just said, ‘Hey, I hope you know this isn’t coming from me. I asked to be put on IR.’ He actually said, ‘Hey, look, I’m vested. I’m getting my money. I’m fine.&apos;”

<h2>Robert Saleh Confirms Rodgers Still Wants To Come Back This Season</h2>



“For sure, you always do, but Aaron wants to play, let’s not confuse that one,” Saleh said. “That’s why he’s been working so hard to get back, and his willingness to play, even if he’s not at 100%, is at the forefront of his mind. He wants to go. But, like I said, until he’s actually cleared, I’m not going to talk about it with anybody.”



Rodgers has been quite vocal about his desire to play and has shared every step in his recovery process. It might not mean anything for his team’s record, but it would set a new standard for sports medicine:



“The goal for me is to come back this year,” he said earlier in the season. “It’s got to be, otherwise I think it’d be a lot of rehab and pain. We’ll see what happens. The Jets organization trusted Za<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/zach-wilson" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ch Wilson</a> to hold down the fort while Rodgers worked his way back to the field. That didn’t turn out the way they wanted, and they failed to acquire a veteran backup or a Plan B.



HC Robert Saleh eventually benched Wilson in favor of Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian. Neither of them fared any better, and a report by The Athletic stated that the team wanted to turn back to Wilson, but he refused to get back on the field out of fear of getting hurt.



That report infuriated Rodgers, who didn’t mince his words about people inside the franchise leaking that kind of stuff, stating that winning organizations have no place for that kind of thing.

<h2>Saleh Didn’t Think It Was An Attack On The Organization</h2>



Even so, Robert Saleh didn’t necessarily take those comments as an attack on the organization. If anything, he stated that they appreciate Rodgers’ input, although he did say that they would handle the situation internally:



“I don’t think it’s an attack on the organization, but I always appreciate Aaron’s thoughts and comments,” Saleh told the media. “We’ll handle all that stuff internally, but like I said, everyone’s going to have their thoughts, but those are the things we’ll handle internally.”



Rodgers has been quite vocal about how good he feels in the Big Apple and with the organization, and this was the first time he was critical about them. Given his history, it’s only normal to see that it sounded off the alarms among the fans.



<h2>Rodgers Was Livid</h2>

“When you use sources and whether intentional or unintentional try to assassinate someone’s character like that report does for Zach, I have a real hard time with that,” Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show. “You’re basically saying that this kid is quitting on the team and doesn’t want to play and is giving the middle finger to the organization.”



Rodgers sent a clear message to his teammates and everybody in the organization going forward: He won’t tolerate any leaks to the media, and they’ll have a problem with him.



<h2>Wilson Will Start Again</h2>



The Jets will now turn back to Wilson. Rodgers’ miracle comeback seems unlikely at this point, as the team has nothing else to play for outside of a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Even so, it’ll be his last chance to prove what he’s made of:



“I’m going to have more fun than I’ve ever had, in a professional way,” Wilson said, adding that the reports were “absolutely not” true. “I’ve never once said that to anybody in this locker room, that I wouldn’t want to play,” he added.

Then, when they finally decided to bench him in favor of Tim Boyle, it was too late.



The Jets still had a beacon of hope and a chance to go the distance this season. Rodgers defied Father Time, modern medicine, and all odds to make an in-season comeback after suffering such a major injury. All they had to do was keep the ship afloat in the meantime.



There was a stretch in the season in which it seemed like they were going to pull it off. Then, several reality checks led this team to a 4-7 record and a 1% chance of making the playoffs, according to ESPN. Even so, Peter King reports that Rodgers hasn’t changed his mind about coming back this season.



<h2>Rodgers Doesn’t Care About The Jets’ Record</h2>



Needless to say, the only way Rodgers comes back is if he knows for sure that he’s not at risk of re-aggravating the injury. Should that be the case, King fully expects Rodgers to be on the field this season regardless of the Jets’ record.



“If he can be sure he is reasonably recovered, without a significant risk of re-tearing the Achilles, I think he’d strongly consider playing, whatever the Jets’ record is,” King reported. 



Apparently, Rodgers feels indebted to the team after everything they did to get him and how they reshaped their roster around him. He still wants to give them a glimpse of what they got themselves into:



“I think he may feel a personal need to come back to a team that remade itself for him and is struggling incredibly with terrible quarterback play since he was lost in the first game of the season,” continued King.



<h2>He Could Be Back Soon</h2>



According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Rodgers could be back on the field as early as this week. While that doesn’t mean a return to play is imminent, he’s going to take the practice field at the very least and take it from there.



“There is a chance that Aaron Rodgers, still trying to recover from that torn Achilles, practices this week. That has been his hope. Jets coaches were unclear if it was actually going to happen. I would say more likely next week. But his return to practice, at least, is coming,” said Rapoport.



Rapoport also reported that Rodgers is targeting his team’s December 24 matchup with the Washington Commanders as a potential return date. At this point, it’s more about making history and giving back to his team than actually leading them to the Super Bowl.
