Last year, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/san-francisco-49ers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">San Francisco 49ers</a> selected Brock Purdy with the last pick of the NFL Draft. Of course, nobody had high expectations placed on the 2022 ‘Mr. Irrelevant’, but he has surprised everybody with his amazing talent.



Nevertheless, not everyone supports Purdy. The quarterback has garnered several critics, including Cam Newton, who is unimpressed by Brock’s impact on the field, stating that he doesn’t make a significant difference.

Brock Purdy isn’t thrilled with Cam Newton at the moment. The former Panthers player recently criticized the 49ers quarterback, labeling him as not a ‘difference maker’, severely scrutinizing his playing style and contributions to his team.

While Newton mentioned other quarterbacks on his list, it appears he particularly emphasized Purdy. When asked about these comments, the 49ers quarterback responded gracefully to his critics.



“I don’t know,” Purdy said about Newton’s words, per Pro Football Talk. “I don’t want to comment on that. Like I said, I’m playing quarterback, trying to win games and we’ll see at the end of all of it.”



It is true that Purdy was fortunate to land in a team that has one of the best rosters in the league, but his talent is undeniable. The former Iowa State player has had a great time in San Francisco, and stats prove it.

<h2>Trent Williams Defends Brock Purdy</h2>



“I don’t get why people say he’s a system quarterback,” the OT said after their win vs. the Seahawks. “No system quarterback makes tight-window throws before they’re there, throwing people open, putting the ball into a window and trusting his receiver to get there, layering balls over linebackers who are in good position, and still getting the ball over their head, getting it to the playmaker.”



Purdy made the Niners feel confident parting ways with both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, and he also beat Sam Darnold for the starting job this season. And even if some are not impressed and he’s not slinging the football down the field, he’s got his teammates’ utmost confidence:



“In locker rooms, guys who know football, guys who study us before they play us, there’s no way you can look at him and say, ‘That’s a system quarterback,’ when you watch the throws he makes, you watch him making them under pressure,” Williams continued.



<h2>Purdy Shares The Credit</h2>



Through 14 weeks, the former Mr. Irrelevant has completed 70.2% of his throws for 3,553 yards to go along with 25 touchdowns against just five picks, leading his team to a 10-3 record. Still, he insists it’s all a team effort:

“I’m a part of a special group,” Purdy said. “Any one of our guys, any one of our eligibles, man, you get the ball in their hands, and then they can go do the rest, break tackles, obviously have pull-away, breakaway speed. I mean, we see it every game. So, to throw like a five-yard pass or even a deep ball, it doesn’t matter. We’ve got playmakers.”

System quarterback or not, the Niners are 10-3 and well en route to being the No. 1 seed in the NFC. It’s hard to think of any team suited to take them down in a win-or-go-home situation this season. In the third quarter of the game, 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw and Eagles chief of security Dom DiSandro were involved in an incident that ended up with both of them getting ejected of the game.



Greenlaw was seen putting his hand in DiSandro’s face, while the Eagles staffer was accused of contributing to the escalation of the argument. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan later called out “Big Dom” for his role in this incident. 



“I just can’t believe someone uninvolved in a football game can taunt our players like that and put their hands in our guy’s face,” Shanahan said, via CBS Sports. “From what I was told, Dre did it back to him and I was told that he mashed him in the face a little bit, so he got ejected. It was a very frustrating play. I got to watch it to have a true opinion on it. I love how we rallied after.”

<h2>Nick Sirianni addresses the situation</h2>



Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni talked about this controversial situation during his press conference on Monday. He admitted offering an apology to Shanahan during their post-game talk, but also claimed DiSandro didn’t intend to escalate the argument.



“Dom is as good as they get in this business,” Sirianni said. “I’m so thankful for him. He is always going to try to defuse situations. That’s what he does, that’s his job. Obviously, unfortunate yesterday. I know in Dom’s heart he truly was trying to defuse the situation right there. I am sad it came to what it came to that anybody got thrown out of the game.”
