So to come in for a little bit like MJ coming back? I don’t know if they’d let me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”

That’s why, with NFL insider Mike Garafolo reporting that both sides aren’t close at all on a contract extension, Mike Florio believes this could be the beginning of the end for Aiyuk in the Bay area:

“The 49ers have the right to squat on Aiyuk in 2023 at his fifth-year option of $14.12 million,” wrote Florio. “His rights are limited, and expensive. Due to his status as a player under his fifth-year option, he would be subject to a daily fine of $40,000 for skipping training camp and a fine in the amount of one regular-season game check (i.e., $784,444) for each preseason game missed. (The fines can be waived by the team.)”



Florio adds that they don’t want Aiyuk to go through something similar to Deebo Samuel when he decided to skip the offseason program as he looked to get a contract extension:



“Before that, Aiyuk can skip the offseason program, including the mandatory minicamp (the total fine for skipping the three-day mandatory camp is $101,716). And while that could help him get what he wants, the 49ers need to remember what missing the offseason did to receiver Deebo Samuel in the first year after he got his long-term deal,” added Florio.

The Niners’ negative response was hardly a surprise, but it doesn’t seem like it was true at all. More than that, it seems like the sole thought of it made Ravens GM Eric DeCosta crack up:



“I read ‘The Lorax’ last week at a local elementary school,” said the executive, as quoted by Niners Wire of USA Today Sports. “I would probably put that report similar to that.”



The Niners have absolutely no incentive to trade Deebo Samuel now. Even if they were to get a massive haul of draft picks in return, they’re trying to make a Super Bowl run now, so they don’t have time to develop players.

<h2>What’s next for Belichick</h2>



The former longtime Patriots coach interviewed twice for the head coaching opening at the Atlanta Falcons, who ultimately opted to appoint Raheem Morris as Arthur Smith’s replacement.

Other teams looking for a head coach this offseason were the Chargers, Raiders, Commanders, Panthers, and Titans; but none of them showed interest in having Belichick to lead their new era.



The future of the most successful coach in football history remains unclear, though it looks like he could be on TV during the 2024 campaign.



“Yeah, I think he’s good,” Belichick’s son Steve said on the Green Light with Chris Long podcast, via CBS Sports. “Let the stuff roll off your back and move forward. He doesn’t dwell, unless we lost the game and he needs to get on some guys, but eventually you gotta turn the page. Honestly I wasn’t too involved in any of that stuff [Bill leaving the Patriots], he did his thing, I did my thing and that was kind of that. He’s definitely pursuing some other stuff whether it’s TV or a regular on ‘Green Light’ or whatever it may be.”



A job on TV looks like a strong possibility for the 6x Super Bowl champ in 2024, with The Athletic reporting that <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/bill-belichick-and-peyton-manning-could-join-forces-in-big-nfl-project">Peyton Manning has already shown interest</a> in having Belichick on Omaha Productions.

The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/san-francisco-49ers">San Francisco 49ers</a> managed to reach the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">Super Bowl</a> after trying for years, but the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kansas-city-chiefs">Kansas City Chiefs</a> once again stood in their way in 2024. While many see the Niners should only takes this as motivation to come back stronger, Deebo Samuel admits it may not be that easy. 



“It’s kind of hard, because basically our job is football, so it’s just like, ‘All right, let’s use this as motivation where you get back in the lab just to put yourself in a position and try to do your best to get back,’” Samuel said on Up &amp; Adams, via Pro Football Talk. “People just say there’s always next year, but I heard that in 2019 and it took four more years to get where we’re at.“



This Niners team already knows what is like to fight to get back to the big game, as it took four seasons and multiple changes at quarterback to contend again. Therefore, Samuel is worried about how long it could take for San Francisco to have another shot at the championship.



“It’s not that easy as people think to get to the Super Bowl,” Samuel said. “It takes everything. It takes me, the coaches, the people upstairs, you bring people in to help. For everything to play out right, you’re not just gonna snap your hands and be back in the Super Bowl again.”

<h2>Niners not making many changes in 2024</h2>



The Niners are running things back with most of their personnel, as <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kyle-shanahan">Kyle Shanahan</a> will continue to coach the team with Brock Purdy at quarterback and most of the star players coming back for 2024.

However, the franchise will make a few changes at key areas of the team. One of Shanahan’s first decisions following the Super Bowl loss was to <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/49ers-kyle-shanahan-sheds-light-on-decision-to-fire-steve-wilks-after-super-bowl-loss-20240215-BUS-104982.html">remove Steve Wilks</a> as defensive coordinator after just one year.



Now, Nick Sorensen will run the defense, getting promoted from defensive passing game and nickel cornerbacks coach to defensive coordinator. Of course, only time will tell whether this was the only thing the Niners needed to change in order to get the job done and end their title drought.

The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/san-francisco-49ers">San Francisco 49ers</a> got their hearts broken by <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/patrick-mahomes">Patrick Mahomes</a> and the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kansas-city-chiefs">Kansas City Chiefs</a> for the second time in five years by losing in overtime at the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">2024 Super Bowl</a> at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.



But far from making them want to avoid anything related to the Chiefs, it looks like the Niners set their sights on some of their members. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, San Francisco wanted Steve Spagnuolo to be its next defensive coordinator.



“On the coaching side, which there is no cap, right? Steve Spagnuolo signs a couple of days after,” said Russini on a recent episode of The Athletic Football Show podcast, via Chiefs Wire. “San Francisco was flirting with him and bringing him in as DC (Defensive Coordinator).”



Spagnuolo has been serving as the Chiefs DC since 2019, playing a pivotal role in the franchise’s three championships in five years. <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/49ers-kyle-shanahan-sheds-light-on-decision-to-fire-steve-wilks-after-super-bowl-loss-20240215-BUS-104982.html">Firing Steve Wilks</a> was one of the Niners’ first decisions after Super Bowl LVIII, and it seems that they looked on the winning side to fill in the vacancy.

However, Spagnuolo got tied to a contract extension just in time to fend off interest from other teams. In the end, the 49ers promoted <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/kyle-shanahan-and-49ers-announce-who-is-their-new-defensive-coordinator-20240303-BUS-108681.html">Nick Sorensen</a> to take over the unit. Before that, the franchise <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-rumors-super-bowl-champion-could-leave-the-chiefs-for-the-49ers-20240229-BUS-108098.html">reportedly interviewed</a> Chiefs’ defensive backs coach Dave Merritt.

<h2>Steve Spagnuolo admits he would like to be a HC</h2>



Spagnuolo’s contribution to the Chiefs’ success makes many wonder why he hasn’t moved on to a head coaching role yet. Many think he’s just comfortable that way, but even Spagnuolo himself admitted he would like to be a head coach again. 



“Absolutely would want to,” Spagnuolo said on Mad Dog Sports Radio, via Pro Football Talk. “We’re prideful guys in this business. … The answer to the question is yes, but I always follow up with this. If it never happens and it’s God’s will that I continue to do what I’m doing, I’m a blessed man.”



Spagnuolo embarked on head coaching in 2009 after doing a great work as defensive coordinator for the New York Giants, but things didn’t go to plan as he went 10-38 in three seasons with the St. Louis Rams. He later had another experience as head coach with the Giants in 2017 but on an interim basis. While the idea of having another chance as HC is on his mind, Spagnuolo is happy with his role in Kansas City.
