The calendar for the 2023 season was confirmed a month ago. That’s something that could be a huge part of how teams end up doing depending on how their games are distributed. However, that doesn’t apply to the preseason.



In the past it was more frequent seeing teams using their starters multiple times. Nowadays it has become a norm to see most of the star players not participating at all, taking the first couple of weeks of the regular season as the preseason.

In Week 2 of the 2022 NFL campaign, Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury. There have been rumors going on about the possibility of the 49ers trading him, but the former 3rd-overall pick doesn’t see himself outside the Bay in a near future.



<h2>Trey Lance gets real on his continuity with the 49ers</h2>



Trey Lance’s two-year tenure in the NFL has been rough. The quarterback has not been able to stay healthy enough to play an entire season, and his backups have taken advantage of his absence to prove they could fight for the starter role.



Last year, with Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo out due to injuries, Brock Purdy took control of the offense. Now, the former North Dakota State quarterback has addressed those rumors. Lance wants to continue with the 49ers, and he is confident that he will stay at San Francisco this year to prove what he’s really capable of.



“I knew where I wanted to be,” Lance said, per The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead. “I just want an opportunity to compete. I love it here. I love the coaching staff. No doubt for me, this is absolutely where I want to be.”

Kyle Shanahan wants to avoid the pain of 2022 where they lost all three quarterbacks to injuries, first it was Lance, then Jimmy G and finally <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/the-minnesota-vikings-work-out-a-standout-xfl-quarterback-20230603-BUS-5995.html">Purdy</a>.



<h2>Which XFL quarterback are the 49ers working out of?</h2>



As reported by ProFootballTalk, the San Francisco 49ers are officially working out Jack Coan, he played with the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas in 2023. But he was also a member of the Colts during the 2022 season, signed as free agent in May and waived in August.



It’s likely that with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/san-francisco-49ers-brandon-aiyuk-shared-good-news-about-brock-purdy-20230601-BUS-5343.html">Brock Purdy</a> and a couple of backups things will be better for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, but they will miss Jimmy G’s experience.

“The thing about Brock Purdy, he knew where to go with the football,” Garcia told Jack Hammer of The Press Democrat. “He didn’t take a lot of sacks. He didn’t make a lot of mistakes. When things broke down around him, he lengthened the field with his feet.”



“He became a threat as a runner,” continued Garcia. “I’m not going to say those were certain things that reminded him of me, but there were things out there like that. Hey, he’s a smaller stature guy but that doesn’t matter. He understands the game. He understood defensive coverages. He understood what was going on offensively and where to go with the football and that was impressive.”



<h2>Niners Are Encouraged By His Recovery</h2>



Purdy is making great steps in his recovery, according to Niners GM John Lynch. However, the executive also claimed that they’re not going to rush him back into the field:



“He’s had one (throwing) session thus far and we’re incredibly encouraged by that,” Lynch said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “He’s hitting all his marks and that doesn’t surprise us, because he’s putting in all the work.”



“As for best-case scenario, we’ll take it as it comes. The hope is he’s ready for training camp. The hope is he’s ready for the regular season,” the GM continued. “We feel good about that position holistically. We are not going to put Brock in a situation where he’s not fully healed. That means not just get back, but get back and get in reps under your belt.”



Purdy took the team by storm and keeps solidifing himself as their No. 1 signal-caller for the foreseeable future. Now, it’ll be up to him to pay that confidence back with his play on the field.

The Eagles prevented the 49ers from getting back to the Super Bowl, in a game in which San Francisco was limited by Brock Purdy’s injury. The former ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ is now facing rehab, and Shanahan is optimistic about his return timetable.
“As long as Brock’s elbow heals right, he’ll be the exact same guy,” hesaid, via 49ersWebZone.com. “And when you have a clean break like that or tear, it will be. You can have a setback, and you can have something heal wrong, but everything’s been completely on pace.
“And just watching him now, he’s doing the same drills all the other quarterbacks are doing. He’s just using a towel to throw, but still doing violent motion, still moving it. He’s just not doing with the football. He’ll get closer to that, and as long as there’s not a setback, we think he’ll be there in training camp.”

To put things in perspective, Moody was only the sixth kicker to be drafted within the first 100 prospects since 2000.
It was such a rare decision that general manager John Lynch had to provide the reasoning. “I can tell you that a lot of teams have called and said shortly thereafter they were going there. Teams tried to trade up to get in front of us. Time will tell. Lynch then talked about the impact Moody can have: “I think this guy will give us an opportunity to extend where we’ve been able to kick from. I think we’ll be able to kick the 55-plus yarders now. I think he affords us the opportunity to do a lot of things”.

According to a report from Tom Pelissero, Brandon Allen will be the new quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. That means they have a 1-2-3 with the order yet to be determined: Brock Purdy, Trey Lance and Allen.
Brandon Allen was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and has played for other teams such as the Los Angeles Rams, the Denver Broncos and the Cincinnati Bengals.
